Good 40º (burrrr) morning! Frost on the barn roof even!!
Yesterday I finished up the canning of the marinara sauce from Donna's
tomatoes ... so now I have 7 pints of marinara, two pints of tomato juice (I
know, looks thin, but good flavor for spinach smoothies or bloodies) and 3 half
pints of pickled peppers! (Oh, wait... 2 peppers, gave one to Bill)
I made a marinade for the steaks I'm taking to Brian and Jen's for the
barbecue later today...
You mix 2 cups red wine, 2/3 cup olive oil, and a tablespoon of the
Montreal Steak Seasoning. OMG, it is sooooooo good and makes the steaks sing!
Historically this date....
1901 – Vice
President of the United States Theodore Roosevelt
utters the famous phrase, "Speak softly and carry a big stick" at the Minnesota State
Fair.
1945 – World War II: Combat ends in
the Pacific Theater: the Instrument
of Surrender of Japan is signed by Japanese
Foreign Minister Mamoru Shigemitsu and
accepted aboard the battleship USS Missouri
in Tokyo Bay.
... the Japanese surrendered on my Mother's birthday, August 15th...
and signed the treaty on my birthday! Cool.
1998 – Swissair Flight 111
crashes near Peggys Cove, Nova
Scotia. All 229 people on board are killed.
And famous people's births that share my birthday...
.... actually, it's not my 'birthday' I am celebrating the 37th
anniversary of my 30th birthday!
... during my ballet years in the '60's I took lessons from her father, Ernest
Belcher. "trainer and coach of many film performers, including Beth Beri, Mary
Pickford, Pola Negri, Ramon Navarro, Nanette Fabray and Shirley Temple".
Last night Bill and Jeannie treated me to dinner at The Mediterranean in Grants Pass ...
I had a 'Cilantro Kama Kazi' martini. OMGOOD. It was made with cilantro
infused vodka, triple sec, and roses lime. Sooooooo refreshing.
Then an appetizer of pita bread, garlic toast, and hummus, pesto, feta dip,
olive tepenade, and Babaganoush for dipping and spreading. This was AWESOMLY
good!
My dinner was Moussaka, my favorite (traditional Greek casserole with ground lamb &
beef, eggplant, mushrooms, tomatoes, and a bechamel sauce), potato patties (with
some of the babaganoush and feta), and vegetables.
Jeannie had a grilled shrimp pita with their awesome fries, Bill a Ceasar
salad with seared Ahi tuna.
GREAT dinner. GREAT friends. Thanks guys! ♥♥
All I know. Nuff said. Happy Sunday. Ciao.

National Blueberry Popsicle Day
Last month gave us a day to honor cherry popsicles, but this month brings
National Blueberry Popsicle Day! The second most popular flavor of this lowfat
frozen confection is always fun and refreshing during these waning weeks of
summer. Enjoy!
