Good 35º foggy morning.
It looks just like this.....
My photo from yesterday was shared on KOBI Channel 5 News at 6 by weatherman Adam Colpak.....
Yesterday the fog left and we got some blue sky and SUNSHINE! It had warmed to 46º by 11am. We topped at 68º.
Dude was soooooooooo happy with the warm sunshine!
Picture of the Day....
In Belgium this statue of a whale is made from 5 tons of plastic waste collected from the ocean and is 4 stories tall. According to the story there are still 150,000,000 tons of plastic waste still in our oceans.
Interesting about Passenger Pigeons......
The Passenger Pigeon is extinct. The last Passenger Pigeon, Martha, died in the Cincinnati Zoo on September 1, 1914. Her estimated age ranged from 17 to 29 years.
At one time the most numerous birds in North America and possibly the world, the Passenger Pigeon had a population in the billions. Its range extended from the Rockies to the Atlantic coast and from south Canada to north Mississippi. Its main breeding grounds were around the Great Lakes. Its name is derived from the French word "passager", meaning passing. They were migratory. There is an account of a passing migratory flock blotting out the sun for hours or even days. Around 1860, a passing flock near Toronto was estimated to contain 3.5 billion birds and took 14 hours to pass.
Native Americans hunted these birds but their decline occurred with the arrival of the Europeans onto the continent. Loss of habitat plus over hunting ensured their demise. They were easily hunted and even used as targets during shooting contests. Nets used in trapping the Passenger Pigeon could catch up to 3,000 at one time.
By the 1870's the Passenger's decline was evident. Measures to protect the bird were ineffective. By the 1890's, the Passenger Pigeon had largely disappeared in the wild. There are records of individual wild Passenger Pigeons being shot as late as 1901 and 1902. By 1909 Martha and two males were the last known survivors. The last male died in 1910, followed by Martha in 1914.

5 Minute 5 Ingredient Gravy... from the Slow Roasted Italian, Donna...
- 2 cups water
- 4 teaspoons beef bouillon powder (or 4 beef bouillion cubes)
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- Combine water and bouillon in a heat proof container (I use my glass 2-cup measuring cup). Heat the beef broth in microwave 1 minute at a time, until it is steaming hot.
- Meanwhile, melt the butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat, add flour and onion powder and whisk to combine. Continue whisking until mixture bubbles up and becomes a thick consistency, about one minute. This helps cook out the ‘floury’ taste.
- While whisking, pour in hot beef broth to the flour mixture. Whisk to combine and bring to boil, reduce to simmer for 1 minute.
- Serve and enjoy!
DONNA'S NOTES
- You can use chicken or beef stock or broth in place of the bouillion and water. Be sure to heat well.
- You can use chicken bouillon to create an amazing chicken gravy that is perfect for turkey or chicken dinners, especially Thanksgiving!
- Chicken or beef base also work in this recipe in place of the bouillon.

Yesterday was odd.... well, not too odd, but enough. I had mailed 2 musical birthday cards with checks in them to Kristen, at the school where she is the secretary, for her Halloween Birthday. I mailed them both on the 27th. She got only one of them on her birthday. I told her on Monday, November 5th, if the other card doesn't come, let me know and I will stop payment on that check. No mailman showed up on Monday! What???? Anyway, yesterday the card FINALLY came! YES!!!
Then I had an appointment with my doc in Medford yesterday that was cancelled due to some family thing she had going. I was going to go to Harry and David and see about getting one of those lobster pot pies.
Good thing I called Harry and David, as they don't stock the pies and they have to be ordered from their website. Groan........... OK, fine, so I ordered one. It will be here Friday. Sure hope it's worth the price!!!!
Leon came with my Schwans order yesterday......

My heart is broken for Leon and his family. His son, who had heart surgery at birth, and then was due for some back/spine surgery in Portland this last month, died before he could have the surgery. God Bless him. Alexander will be in his family's heart always. I think he was about 10 years old.
There was nothing on the TV last night but the election voting stuff. Didn't want to watch any of it!! So, I watched some other stupid shows! Sigh..... one I tried to watch was Manifest (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manifest_(TV_series) which I didn't care for at all. Also, Magnum P I (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magnum_P.I._(2018_TV_series) which is a take off on the one starring Tom Selleck, and it is crappy!
Sigh again.............
All I know. Nuff said. Happy Hump Day. Ciao.

National Stress Awareness Day is observed annually on the first Wednesday in November. This is a day to identify and reduce the stress factors in your life.
There are many reasons for stress in the workplace. The job market is difficult and with many companies downsizing, a common concern for those affected is how they will continue to provide for their families. Another major stress factor for some may be conflicts with co-workers.
Work-life is not the only stressor. Nearly every employee balances family, home and health as well, whether they are married or not. Parents, siblings, illness, maintenance of vehicles or civic responsibilities may impact our lives.
HOW TO OBSERVE
Develop a routine to help you lessen your tension. Go for a walk, do some deep breathing, get some exercise or a massage or take a long, relaxing bath.
HISTORY
Carole Spiers, Chair of International Stress Management Association, founded National Stress Awareness Day.
