In 1903, the original Baltimore Orioles moved to New York, where they became the Highlanders. As was common at the time, the team, which played in the American League, was also known as the New York Americans. New York Press editor Jim Price coined the nickname Yanks, or Yankees, in 1904 because it was easier to fit in headlines.

 

George Herman " Babe " Ruth Jr. (February 6, 1895 – August 16, 1948) was an American professional baseball player whose career in Major League Baseball (MLB) spanned 22 seasons, from 1914 through 1935. Nicknamed " The Bambino " and " The Sultan of Swat ", he began his MLB career as a stellar left-handed pitcher for the Boston Red Sox , but achieved his greatest fame as a slugging outfielder for the New York Yankees .

The New York Yankees are an American professional baseball team based in the New York City borough of the Bronx. Arguably the most successful professional sports team in the United States, the Yankees have won 19 American League East Division titles, 40 American League pennants, and 27 World Series championships, all of which are MLB records. The team has won more titles than any other franchise in the four major North American sports leagues - after briefly trailing the NHL's Montreal Canadiens by one or two titles in the 1990s. The Yankees have had 44 players and 11 managers inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame, including Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Joe DiMaggio, Mickey Mantle, Yogi Berra, Whitey Ford, Mariano Rivera, and Derek Jeter, with Rivera and Jeter having the two highest vote percentages of all Hall of Fame member According to Forbes, the Yankees are the second-highest valued sports franchise in the United States and the second in the world, with an estimated value of approximately $5 billion. The team has garnered enormous popularity and a dedicated fanbase, as well as widespread enmity from fans of other MLB teams. The team's rivalry with the Boston Red Sox is one of the most well-known rivalries in North American sports.

Roll-ups are easy to make and tasty to eat, which is why we love making them when we've got company over. Our Bacon Cheddar Roll-ups are especially popular because they combine two American favorites: bacon and cheese!

• 1 (8-ounce) can refrigerated crescent rolls
• 3 tablespoons ranch dressing
• 1/4 cup cooked real bacon pieces
• 1/2 cup finely shredded Cheddar cheese (see Notes)
• 1/4 cup chopped scallions

 

1. Preheat oven to 375º. Unroll dough and separate into 8 triangles.
2. Spread dressing to edges of each triangle. Sprinkle evenly with bacon, cheese, and scallions.
3. Starting at shortest side of triangle, roll up each piece of dough and place on an ungreased baking sheet, bending each into a crescent shape.
4. Bake 11 to 13 minutes, or until golden. Serve immediately, or remove from baking sheet to cool.

 

***If you're like us and prefer your rolls really cheesy, just sprinkle a little extra cheese over them right when they come out of the oven and are still hot.

Gingerbread House Day on December 12th recognizes a family tradition for many around the country.

A favorite food of an Armenian monk, Gregory of Nicopolis, brought gingerbread to Europe around 992 AD and taught French Christians to bake it. Since gingerbread was often used in religious ceremonies, monks baked to be sturdy to molded into images of saints.

We can thank the Brothers’ Grimm for a gingerbread house, though. Through their tale of Hansel and Gretel, they introduce an evil witch who lives in a house made of gingerbread. It didn’t take long for the German gingerbread guilds to pick up the idea. Soon, they put gingerbread houses to a more festive use making snowy cottages made from the spicy-sweet treat.

Today, we can spend the day baking, cutting, and building to our heart’s delight. Kits take some steps out of the process so we can get right down to constructing our winter wonderlands.
