Throw Back Thursday ~ Cinco de Mayo ~ Chest Hair Gag ~ Bernie Kammer ~ Uncle Bud Hansen ~ Dawn Forbus ~ Thunder Storm

Good 54º cloudy foggy gloomy morning.

Happy Throw Back Thursday
1986.... Paul Harper and me...... (already put this on my FB page a few days ago.)

Paul was an actor and a Sheriff's Reserve. Was in the movie The Wild Bunch. Here he is with the cast... he is bottom row, center.

For the film he had all of his teeth pulled. The studio paid him $20,000 to do this! He was also in a Pace commercial where he said, "New York City? Get a rope!"

HEY you know what day this is???? It's :

Cinco de Mayo... the REAL story...

(Spanish for "fifth of May") is a celebration held on May 5. It is celebrated nationwide in the United States and regionally in Mexico, primarily in the state of Puebla, where the holiday is called El Dia de la Batalla de Puebla (English: The Day of the Battle of Puebla). The date is observed in the United States as a celebration of Mexican heritage and pride, and to commemorate the cause of freedom and democracy during the first years of the American Civil War.In the state of Puebla, the date is observed to commemorate the Mexican army's unlikely victory over French forces at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862, under the leadership of General Ignacio Zaragoza Seguín. Contrary to widespread popular belief, Cinco de Mayo is not Mexico's Independence Day—the most important national patriotic holiday in Mexico—which is actually celebrated on September 16, or as we used to say, the day the new Chevy's came out!

So make some Margaritas, have some rice and beans, guacamole, pick up some tamales... traditional Mexican dishes. Celebrate with our Mexican friends a special day.

Yesterday the rain started about 7:30am. Then it stopped and started again in an hour. That was it.  Nothing to measure.

I went into Grants Pass to do some shopping at Safeway. Got a ton of stuff. The worst part is unloading the car, carrying it in, and putting it away.  One of the checkers, Lisa, is a former prison guard from NY. She is so nice. I told her I was thinking about shopping today and thought of her. Looked at the clock and it was 10:15!!! That made me laugh because 10-15 is our department code for "prisoner in custody" !!!

On the way home I stopped at Taqueria de Guacamaya,
our new local Mexican restaurant. I got some mini tacos and tamales to go so today I can celebrate Cinco de Mayo!

Today there are 3 birthdays.... Bernie Kammer (LASD ret). Happy Birthday Bernie! (With his wife Sharon)

Also, Bud Hansen (LASD ret.), aka Uncle Bud! Happy Birthday Bud!!! Jerry and Bud at the department's chili cook off about 1984....
Bud was our Captain at Temple and I believe he retired as a Chief or Inspector.

And today is also the birthday of Dawn Forbus...
(wife of one of "our son's" Jimmy ... former LASD and retired from Washoe Co Sheriff's Dept)
HAPPY BIRTHDAY SWEETHEART!!

About 4:45pm the thunder started. Then it got louder, lightening strikes closer, house was rattling from the thunder and then the rain came. It POURED and in less than 30 minutes we got 1/2" !!! Then it passed onto the north. Wow! Holy Moly! Haven't been in a storm like that in a LONG time. Poor Dude, he was so scared. Bruiser on the other hand... slept through it! This was my mountain and the sunset about 7pm...

Dinner last night was easy peasy.... I heated up some risotto and topped it with 'fake crabmeat' and cut up a tomato...

PERFECT!!!

Then it was chair, TV, wine, Chicago Med..... and a nap!

All I know. Nuff said. Happy TBE & Cinco de Mayo. Ciao.
....... or should I say Adios!
