Baby Hawk ~ Crock Pot Broccoli Cheese Casserole ~ Dragnet & Badge 714 ~ Greek Pizza

Good 25º burrrrrrr foggy morning.

Yesterday it was hard to get warm. Sun came out and it warmed to 36º by 10:30. By noon we hit 46º.  Thank goodness for the electric blanket in my chair!!

I looked out and there was this baby hawk on top of the barn. He was intently watching something...

Here's a great easy side dish for dinner or pot luck or whatever...

6 oz box cornbread stuffing

1½ cups water or chicken broth
12 oz bag broccoli cuts (florets) fresh or thawed
10½ can cream of mushroom soup
8 - 16 oz Velveeta cheese, cubed
Mix together stuffing with water or broth and microwave 3 minutes.
Pour into slow cooker and add remaining ingredients, stirring well.
Cover and cook on low 2-3 hours, until cheese is melted and broccoli is tender.

I talked about 417 yesterday and then did some research. Back in the 50's there was a TV show called Dragnet and Jack Webb, Sgt. Joe Friday in the show, had badge 714. I had always thought it was just 417 backwards.

Well come to find out there are a number of explanations for the use of this number. Jack Webb was a big Babe Ruth fan and he hit 714 home runs in his career. Also, Jack's mother's birthday was July 14th.  However, Laurie  Cooke was advisor for Dragnet and she was the daughter of Dan Cook who was close with Webb. Sgt. Cook's LAPD badge was 714. He was retired from LAPD when he arranged for the use of his badge in the series.
So now you know!

Christmas Card Day

Today honors Sir Henry Cole of England, who created the first commercial Christmas card in 1843. That makes today the perfect time to get started on your own cards for the holiday season!
Between shopping for gifts and decorating, that doesn't leave much time to write out countless Christmas cards. This year, save time and money by sending festive Christmas digital greeting cards! Send thoughtful greetings to friends and family who you may not see over the holidays. Digital Christmas cards are one of the easiest way to spread holiday cheer, and they are good for the environment. When you choose digital cards over paper, you help the Earth by cutting back on unnecessary paper waste during the holiday season.
