Foxtails ~ Penguins ~ Ravioli

Good 47º morning. Looked like this a few ago....

.... and then in just a couple of minutes.....

and hopefully the last transformation 10 minutes later....

Yesterday we hit 72* and at 5pm I put a sweater on! July??

So, after the 'bash men' chat Eve had with the Lord, I got this from La Vern Bob....
Sue, here's another one from the garden:
The Lord told Adam that he would make him a help-mate comparable to him
Adam asked, "what will that cost me?"
The Lord said, "an arm and a leg"
Then Adam replied, "what can you give me for a rib?"

Yesterday Maggie and I went to town. Stopped at PO for a package, the market for various and sundry items, Ace for cracked corn and double-sided tape, and then the vet's for a rabies shot. He said the bump he took a sample of last month was benign. Her weight is still dropping, although she eats fine. Have to go in once a month to weigh her. He also found a foxtail sticker in her ear.
That was not a pleasant extraction. Poor baby cried! (me too!)

   :o)

One of my BFFs (hey, Jeannie!) had lost a LASD badge necklace
some time ago and wanted to know if I knew where they had them. Apparently the Emporium doesn't sell jewelry any more (new person at the helm) so I asked Moon who put me in touch with Yolanda at www.10-8designs.com   and who told me about The Jewelry Factory ...   http://www.jewelryfactory.com/

They have a variety of Law Enforcement and Fire jewelry (even CHP! <g>)... click on  "Police and Fire Jewelry" and then on the state you worked in and they are in alphabetical order.... fire departments intermingled with police agencies.  Also 10-8 Designs has a lot of law enforcement and fire items and designs ...specialty embroidery, and clothing  .... this is a throw I got from them with our badge numbers on it...

... and from Gar:
WARNING: The consumption of alcohol may make you think you are whispering when you are not.

Ok, got this from P-berger, aka Dewayne Honey. Thank you! Penguins are so fascinating, the babies are so darling, and the parents loving and caring. You will enjoy this. Put a big smile on my face!

Historically this date...

1864 – American Civil War: Battle of Peachtree Creek – Near Atlanta, Georgia, Confederate forces led by General John Bell Hood unsuccessfully attack Union troops under General William T. Sherman.
1903Ford Motor Company ships its first car.
1921Air mail service begins between New York City and San Francisco.
1940 – California opens its first freeway, the Arroyo Seco Parkway.

Just discussing this with Pat Tracy ('PatT') the other day. Also known as the Pasadena Freeway or the 110 Fwy. Then only one I have ever known to have stop signs at the on ramps. The 110 starts in Pasadena at Arroyo Seco Pkwy and Glenarm and meanders through Pasadena, South Pasadena, and Highland Park before becoming the Harbor Freeway in LA.  Jerry's National Guard Unit, HQ in Highland Park, would repel off the York Street Bridge over the freeway...
I imagine that would be a sight for the commuters to see Army uniforms coming down off the bridge!!!
1969Apollo Program: Apollo 11 successfully makes the first human-crewed landing on the Moon in the Sea of Tranquility. The first Moonwalk EVA follows almost 7 hours later.
1976 – Hank Aaron hits his 755th home run, the final home run of his career.
1984 – Officials of the Miss America pageant ask Vanessa Lynn Williams to quit after Penthouse publishes nude photos of her.

And births this date include....
1919 – Sir Edmund Hillary, New Zealand mountaineer and explorer (d. 2008)
(Too bad Hillary Clintoon didn't marry him!)

1926Lola Albright, American actress

She hasn't done any acting since the '60's so there are no current pictures of this 85 year old!

1938 – Dame Diana Rigg, English actress

1938 – Natalie Wood, American actress (d. 1981)

After "7 or 8 glasses of wine" she fell overboard wearing a down jacket.  Must have also been two drunks on board who didn't pay any attention to where she went..... Robert Wagner and Christopher Walken (can't stand him!!!) had a loud argument....
Her sister and the boat captain wanted the case opened again because Lana said she never got a straight answer about her sister's death from Wagner.
Too sad. Such a talent and such a tragedy.

1971 – Sandra Oh, Korean Canadian actress

She was in Grey's Anatomy, which she played a weirdo. In Sideways and Under The Tuscan Sun she was good.

Dinner last night was 2 giant cheese ravioli in a basil tomato sauce on a bed of mixed lettuce and cabbage and diced tomatoes cooked briefly* in my garlic/onion/red pepper infused olive oil...

... topped with shaved Parmesan cheese. Awesome!

* Whether your food is raw or cooked can also make a difference. Tomatoes contain lycopene, a form of antioxidant. Antioxidants have been hailed for their ability to neutralize free radicals, which are linked to ageing, stroke and heart disease. "If you have fresh tomatoes, they have a total antioxidant potential of about 80," explains Dr Catherine Collins, a dietician at St George's Healthcare NHS Trust.
"But if you cook or can them the antioxidant potential goes up five or six-fold." "This happens because the lycopene in the raw tomato has been transformed to trans-lycopene in the cooked version, and trans-lycopene is much more readily absorbed."
Likewise, says Dr Collins, cooking carrots makes the beta-carotene, another form of antioxidant, more available because you break down the cell wall with the cooking process.
