As of January 2018, the highest posted speed limit in the world is 99 mph on a highway in the United Arab Emirates. This 4 lane high speed portion of the Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Highway was built at a cost of $1.4 billion.
Texas has the highest speed limit in the western hemisphere, at 85 mph.
In the eastern United States, most states top out with a maximum speed limit of 70 mph. Western states allow up to 75 mph.
Germany's autobahn (the official German term is Bundesautobahn which translates as "federal motorway") is not one road but rather the highway system of 8,075 miles as of 2016. While there are no federally mandated speed limits for some classes of vehicles, cars and motorcycles, without trailers, there is an advisory speed limit of 81 mph.
There are posted limits in areas that are urbanized, substandard, accident-prone, or under construction.
Australia's Stuart Highway, often referred to as "The Track", is the main north-south highway. It is a 1,761 mile highway through mostly unpopulated areas. Prior to 2007, there was no speed limit on this road, but as of November 2016, a speed limit has been instated, with the maximum speed now being 81 mph.
The standard speed limit is 70 mph for U.S. rural interstates, a 45 mph minimum speed limit, 65 mph  for other 4 lane divided highways, and 55 mph for all other highways.

You only need five ingredients to put together this Peach Cobbler that'll knock their socks off! We've added a little brown sugar and cinnamon to sweet sliced peaches, to make this easy scrape-the-sides-clean cobbler.

  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour, divided
  • 1/2 cup plus 3 tablespoons light brown sugar, divided
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 3 cans (16 ounces each) sliced peaches, drained
  • Cooking spray

  1. Preheat oven to 350º. Coat an 8-inch square glass baking dish with cooking spray.
  2. In a large bowl, combine 1/4 cup flour, 1/2 cup brown sugar, and cinnamon; mix well. Stir in peaches until evenly coated. Place in a prepared baking dish.
  3. In a small bowl, combine remaining flour and brown sugar; sprinkle over peach mixture.
  4. Coat the top with cooking spray and bake 25 to 30 minutes, or until top is lightly browned. Spoon into individual serving dishes.

Friends, fresh air, and good food are the focus of National Eat Outside Day every year on August 31. Whether at home, a park, a favorite restaurant or food truck, or the beach, food just tastes better when we eat it under the open sky.

Many foods lend themselves to eating outdoors but sometimes it’s as simple as taking your prepared plate out to the balcony, porch, or patio. Also known as al fresco dining, many restaurants offer patio seating so their patrons can enjoy their meals while taking in the city, beach, countryside or just people watch. Even more temperate climates offer seasonal outdoor dining.

Eat Outside Day encourages you to taste the sunshine (or the moonlight) while eating your meal. It’s like a mini stay-cation where you get to recharge while enjoying a delicious feast outdoors.

HOW TO OBSERVE National Eat Outside Day

National Eat Outside Day offers limitless possibilities to celebrate! Try these ideas:

  • Host an outdoor brunch or just take your bacon and eggs outside to enjoy.
  • Take your sack lunch outside to eat during your break.
  • Pack a picnic basket and head to the park.
  • Visit your favorite restaurant and sit on the patio this time.
  • Invite friends over for a BBQ.
  • Take a dinner river cruise.
  • Pack some sandwiches and trail mix and go for a hike.
  • Stay up late, pop some popcorn, make cheese and crackers or grab the leftovers. Spread a blanket under the stars and look for constellations while snacking.
  • Organize an outdoor potluck.
  • Host your book club outdoors with all your favorite foods and beverages.
  • Go camping. You’re nearly guaranteed to eat outdoors when you’re in the Great Outdoors.
  • Take a cue from your garden. Wash off those ripening vegetables and fruits with a spritz from the hose and savor your bounty.
Eat Outside FAQ

Q. What does “al fresco” mean?
A. It means “in the air” and typically is used to reference outdoor dining.

Q. Is outdoor dining a new fad?
A. Not really. Humans have been eating outdoors for centuries. Sometimes out of necessity (caves, huts, teepees, covered wagons don’t always have a lot of space for indoor eating).

Q. What are some of the best foods to eat outdoors?
A. Just about anything can be eaten outdoors depending on the setting. However, some foods are better than others when it comes to portability and convenience. Sandwiches, finger foods, fresh fruits and vegetables all fit the picnic profile. When we’re cooking at home, nearly anything can be on the menu – including soup.

You can do this as long as you are not in the middle of a hurricane of an area with wildfires and super smokey air!

Weather/Smoke ~ Picture of the Day ~ Bumper Stickers ~ Stromboli ~ National Beach Day

Good 55º smokey morning.

Later the fire up in Josephine County caused a lot of smoke......... couldn't even see my mountain....

This morning it's just as bad here as well in Grants Pass........

Praying this huge fire gets put out, at least controlled!

Interesting about bumper stickers.........

bumper sticker is an adhesive label or sticker with a message, intended to be attached to the bumper of an automobile and to be read by the occupants of other vehicles—although they are often stuck onto other objects. Most bumper stickers are about 10 inches by 3 inches and are often made of PVC.

Bumper stickers can be commercial, religious, secular, humorous, or in support of a sports team or other organization. They may promote or oppose a particular philosophical or political position. In some countries, such as the United States, bumper stickers are a popular way of showing support for a candidate for a government seat and become more common during election years. In others, such as the United Kingdom, they are rarely seen in any form.

One variety of bumper sticker is the country tag. This is typically used for cars crossing international borders, and is overseen by the United Nations as the Distinguishing Signs of Vehicles in International Traffic, being authorized by the UN's Geneva Convention on Road Traffic (1949) and Vienna Convention on Road Traffic (1968). Often the country code is displayed on the license plate itself.

These have (usually in the United States) been spun off into tags indicating a country with which the driver affiliates, or more humorously to indicate things like a region (OBX), support for rabbit rescue groups (BUN), etc.

People who opt to exhibit their individuality through these decals may take part in more acts of road rageColorado State University social psychologist William Szlemko found that aggressive driving is linked to the number of markers a person has on their car, regardless of the messages portrayed.

Before bumper stickers, advertisers used other methods of displaying their wares. In the horse-drawn carriage era, advertisers printed on horsefly nets with the name of a business. In the 1930s and 1940s, bumper signs were printed on metal or cardboard and wired to the chrome bumpers. Lester Dill, promoter of Meramec Caverns in Missouri, was an ardent adopter of the bumper sign to attract motorists to his site. Using a windshield decal was another option. These paper strips could be wetted and placed inside a car window. However, these strips did not hold up well when placed on a bumper.

Various factors contributed to the development of the bumper sticker. Developments in material manufacturing during World War II led to the widespread use of daylight fluorescent inks, which were invented by Bob Switzer and his brother Joe. These inks appeared to glow during the daytime and were useful to support various wartime activities; they were favored by early bumper sticker manufacturers after the war. In addition, the first commercially produced pressure-sensitive stickers appeared after World War II; new developments in adhesive materials led to the production of paper strips with adhesive on the back. In addition, In addition, increased use of vinyl by the general public after World War II led to the eventual use of this material in bumper stickers.

Many experts credit Forest P. Gill, a silkscreen printer from Kansas City, Kansas, USA, as the developer of the bumper sticker. Gill recognized that the self-adhesive paper used during the second world war could be used to advertise promotional products in the late 1940s and beyond.

Early widespread uses of the advertising bumper sticker were for tourist attractions, such as Marine Gardens, Florida, Seven Falls, Colorado, Meramec Caverns in Missouri, and Lookout Mountain, Tennessee. Another popular advertisement was the "See Rock City" sticker. In the 1940s and 1950s, visitors to the site had a sticker applied to their car, which duplicated the famous signs painted on the roofs of barns throughout the southeastern USA. Tourist attraction staff would circulate through the parking lot, applying the promotional sticker to every car.

The first documented presidential election that used adhesive bumper stickers in political campaigns was the 1952 election between Dwight D. Eisenhower and Adlai Stevenson II. Bumper stickers allowed citizens to show support for a candidate while still maintaining some anonymity.

Bumper stickers have caused legal issues between people and states. In 1989, a man with a bumper sticker containing indecent wording was convicted. The man's conviction was reversed in Cunningham v. State (1991). The court referenced the First Amendment, stating "the provision regulating profane words on bumper stickers reaches a substantial amount of constitutionally protected speech and unconstitutionally restricts freedom of expression".

Variants of the bumper sticker have developed in recent years, including vinyl decals meant to be applied to a car's rear windshield, and chrome emblems to be affixed to the body of the car itself, generally on the rear (the "Jesus fish" and its "Darwin fish" counterpart are popular examples).

License plate frames and vanity plates can serve similar purpose to bumper stickers, although the law may place restrictions on messages they display.

From Mr. Food

You don't need to leave your kitchen to make a pizzeria-worthy stromboli. These "bake" perfectly in your air fryer! You see, the air fryer allows hot air to circulate all around the stromboli, which results in a crunchy-on-the-outside, yet tender-on-the-inside crust. Plus, there's all the molten meat and cheese filling too. In the end, you get to enjoy a really delicious, authentic-tasting stromboli!

  • 1 (11-ounce) can refrigerated thin crust pizza dough
  • 16 slices thinly sliced deli salami
  • 1 cup spinach leaves
  • 1/2 cup sliced roasted red peppers
  • 8 slices provolone cheese
  • 1/4 cup Italian dressing, divided
  • Cooking Spray
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning, divided
  • Parmesan cheese for sprinkling

  1. Preheat air fryer to 350º. Unroll pizza dough on a cutting board and cut into 4 equal-sized rectangles.
  2. Layer each piece of dough evenly with salami, spinach, red peppers, provolone cheese, and 1 tablespoon Italian dressing. Starting at the long edge of dough, roll up jelly roll-style. Spray top of each with cooking spray, then evenly sprinkle with Italian seasoning and Parmesan cheese.
  3. Coat air fryer basket with cooking spray. Place 2 stromboli in basket and air-fry for 9 to 10 minutes or until golden brown. Repeat with remaining stromboli. After the second 2 are done, place first 2 back in for 1 minute to warm up.

All I know. Nuff said. Have a good Tuesday. Ciao.

National Beach Day on August 30th celebrates all the sandy beaches across the nation. It also provides an opportunity to help keep those relaxing places clean, so we can continue to enjoy them long into the future.
Whether we spend time on beaches oceanside, at a lake or river, they provide recreation all summer long. Swimming, water sports, and sunbathing are just a few of the relaxing things that come to mind. We also enjoy playing Frisbee, volleyball and long walks. Floating along in the surf on a hot summer day with friends creates summer memories we remember for years to come.
Sometimes, just packing a few icy beverages and a good book is enough to make a beach day perfect. However, we are responsible for caring for the beach, too. Not only should we pack out what we pack in, but it’s necessary to follow the beach rules, also. Safety and fun go hand in hand.

HOW TO OBSERVE

When it comes to swimming at the beach, the American Red Cross provides excellent tips.
1. Swim with a lifeguard present and only in designated areas.
2. Go with a buddy. Never swim alone.
3. Watch for currents, moving water, and riptides. These occur in oceans, lakes, and rivers.
4. Swim within your depth. Don’t swim longer than you are physically capable of doing.
5. Take swimming lessons.
6. Learn CPR.
Organize a group to clean up your favorite beach. Since it’s near the end of the season, your beach will appreciate it. Find out what the facility needs. Take up donations for supplies to keep the beach even cleaner next year. Donate garbage and recycling cans for your beach. Attend a seminar on water pollution and how to prevent it.
Share pictures of your favorite beach while enjoying the last days of summer!

NATIONAL BEACH DAY HISTORY

In 1929, the Knights of Columbus out of Milwaukee, Wisconsin launched a National Beach Day as part of their convention plans. However, it never took root.
Then in 2014, Colleen Paige, pet and family lifestyle expert, created National Beach Day to celebrate beaches and the importance of keeping them clean.
