Good 49º clear sunny morning.
By late afternoon yesterday we warmed to 98º!!!
Yesterday Ted of Ted Evans Pest Control came out and sprayed all the grass growth on my roads and around the barn and out buildings. Because my roads are gravel, once we get spring the grass/weeds start to grow in it. He's in Medford and if you ever need bugs or weeds taken care of, give him a call at 541-772-4541

Interesting about George Washington...
His Birthday is WrongWashington's family listed his date of birth as February 11, but his birthday is actually February 22. When Washington was born in 1732, the American colonies followed the Julian calendar. Fast forward 20 years and the US began abiding by the Gregorian calendar, which is 11 days ahead of the Julian calendar. Thus, Washington was actually born on February 22, 1732.
That Cherry Tree Story? It's a Myth
If you know anything about George Washington, you probably know the story of him supposedly chopping down his father's cherry tree and coming clean about it. It is totally false. The myth was invented by one of Washington’s first biographers, Mason Locke Weems, in The Life and Memorable Actions of Washington. The tall tale first appeared in the book’s fifth edition, published in 1806. Its purpose was to paint Washington as a role model for young Americans, proving that the man's public greatness was due to his private virtues (honesty, courage, etc.). In 1836, the story was recast as a children’s story.

He Created His Own Dog Breed
George Washington loved dogs and fox hunting, so it was only natural for him to want to breed the perfect foxhound. He began to crossbreed big French hounds with his own black and tan hounds to create a new breed of hound. Today, the American Kennel Club recognizes our first president as the founder of the American foxhound. He owned 36 of these pups, and gave them unusually mushy names like True Love, Sweet Lips, Venus, and Tipsy.

Fresh SUMMER CORN SALAD
Summer Corn Salad is a bright refreshing taste of summer. Garden fresh corn and tomatoes come together with fresh mozzarella, herbs and a glorious dressing that really gives it an even lighter fresher taste. This simple recipe is the perfect summer side!
- 4 ears fresh corn on the cob, cleaned and washed
- 1 (10.5 ounce) package grape tomatoes, halved
- 8 ounces fresh mozzarella, cut into bite size pieces
- 10 basil leaves, chiffonade (roll leaves and slice thinly)
- ¼ cup fresh lemon juice
- ¼ cup extra virgin olive oil
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- ½ teaspoon kosher salt
- ½ teaspoon fresh ground coarse black pepper
- Cut corn off the cob, place into a medium mixing bowl. Add tomatoes and mozzarella. Sprinkle with basil. Set aside.
- Add fresh lemon juice, olive oil, garlic, salt and pepper to a pint size canning jar. Shake to combine. Pour dressing over salad. Toss to combine.
- Serve and enjoy!
DONNA’S NOTES
- If you are traveling with this salad or making ahead; you can prep the salad and the dressing and wait to pour dressing over salad until ready to serve. Refrigerate until ready to serve.
- You can cook the corn if you prefer, I really enjoy the fresh taste of it uncooked in this salad. The acid in the lemon juice will mellow out the starchiness of the corn and create a fabulous flavor.

During the second Saturday in May, National Dog Mom’s Day sends out a chorus of yips, barks, and howls of praise for all the dog mommas!
Our dogs are our family members, whether they came into our lives unexpectedly or as carefully planned additions. We adopt them as puppies, adolescents, or fully mature animals with a bit of baggage, and yet, we find common ground, a connection, and bond like families do. They know our moods, and we know theirs. We care for them, shelter them, and share an immeasurable loyalty with them.
National Dog Mom’s Day recognizes the bond women share with their fur kids. When they humor us, charm us or even when they are naughty, they are like any other child to us.
HOW TO OBSERVE
Celebrate by making sure to get some extra cuddles. Bake up some yummy homemade puppy treats. Plan for some double pampering – a pedicure for you and paws for the puppers. Then take an extra special selfie with fur baby to mark the occasion.
