Gloom ~ Geese ~ St. Patrick's Day ~ Laney ~ Dude ~ Dr. Dicky

Good 36ยบ cloudy morning.

Yesterday stayed cloudy and dark and gloomy and cold ....

My geese came to visit and for a treat...

The other two sat on the barn roof and honked and honked!!!

Then after 12 noon the sun did come out for a bit...

St. Patrick’s Day 2018 occurs on Saturday, March 17, in observance of the death of St. Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland. What began as a religious feast day in the 17th century has evolved into a variety of festivals across the globe celebrating Irish culture with parades, special foods, music, dancing, and a whole lot of green.

The most common St Patrick's Day symbol is the shamrock. The shamrock is the leaf of the clover plant and a symbol of the Holy Trinity. Other symbols include:
  • Almost anything green.
  • The green, orange and white flag of the Republic of Ireland.
  • Brands of beer associated with Irish culture.
Religious symbols include snakes and serpents. Other symbols seen on St Patrick’s Day include the harp, which was used in Ireland for centuries, as well as the leprechaun and a pot of gold that it hides.
The Chicago River is turned green for this day...

Some interesting history of Irish immigrants...
My Father's side of the family was Irish...

The surname of LANEY was an Irish surname meaning 'the son of Dubslaine' (the son of Slaney) which was derived from the Gaelic de Slaine. It is one of the few Irish place-names, meaning, one who came from Slane in County Meath. Local names usually denoted where a man held his land, and indicated where he actually lived.
