Interesting about owls....

The design of owls' wings allows them to fly in almost absolute silence. Different parts of their wings and the characteristics of their feathers contribute to their silent flight. Owls have broad wings with large surface areas that help them to float through the air without flapping too much. Less flapping makes less noise.

The main reason owls can fly silently is the uniquely designed leading edges of their primary feathers. When most birds fly, turbulence – created when air gushes over the surface of their wings – causes noise. Owls' wings, however, are unique because they reduce noise caused by turbulence.

An owl's primary feathers are serrated like a comb. This design breaks down turbulence into smaller currents called micro-turbulences. Then the edge of the feather muffles the sound of air flowing over the wing and shifts the angle at which air flows. These soft feathers allow air to pass through which eliminates sound. Some people suspect that, as the owls flies, these feathers may also shift sound energy created by the owl's wing to a higher frequency that prey can't hear.

From Mr. Food.... Autumn Pasta Salad

Pasta salad isn't just for summer -- it's perfect for fall, too! Tonight, for a novel autumn meal, why not try this hearty Autumn Pasta Salad filled with rotisserie chicken, apples, and pears?

• 1 (8-ounce) package elbow macaroni
• 1 cup chopped cooked rotisserie chicken
• 1 cup chopped apples
• 1 cup chopped pears
• 1/2 cup dried cranberries
• 1/2 cup chopped celery
• 1/2 cup chopped candied walnuts
• 1 cup mayonnaise
• 3 tablespoons maple syrup
• 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
• 1 teaspoon salt

1. In a medium pot of boiling salted water, cook pasta to desired doneness; drain well and cool. (Rinse with cold water to cool quickly; drain well.)
    
2. In a large bowl, combine cooled pasta, the chicken, apples, pears, cranberries, celery, and candied walnuts; mix well. 
    
3. In a small bowl, combine mayonnaise, maple syrup, vinegar, and salt; blend well. Pour mayonnaise mixture over pasta mixture; toss lightly then serve immediately.

If you're not serving this salad immediately, you may want to wait to add the pears and walnuts just before serving, so they stay nice 'n' crunchy. You can also add an additional 1/4 cup mayonnaise to moisten the salad just before serving.

Many of you most likely remember Herbie the Love Bug, Lightning McQueen from Cars, Kit from Knight Rider, General Lee from The Dukes of Hazzard and Bandit from Smokey and the Bandit. These are just some of the famous car names that are known by millions of people.

Make a day of it.  Take the ol’ jalopy out for a spin, a nice wash, and shine and then just maybe you will select a signature meant for one so reliable. After all, you spend all that time together and take such good care of each other, isn’t it time to give those four wheels a name?

I have no idea what to name mine.... Bobo's Bomb, Red Tornado, Red Wine, since my license is "417" how about Red Pig ..... ?????
