Nutty Bruiser ~ Drummer Jack ~ Lemon Bars ~ Birds ~ Smoke ~ Pantry Pasta Dinner

Good 42º clear June morning.

                        OMG June!!

I had my back surgery 4 years ago today. Wow, time sure zips along!

Yesterday I was putzing around in the kitchen and Bruiser decides to attack a bag. This is a shopping bag provided by my son's State Farm office...
Bruiser attacked it, jumped on it, and then took a nap on it!
He's a nut!

Yesterday was exciting... sprayed weeds, put water in the 6 batteries in my golf cart, straightened out the check register and paid some bills. Whooppeeee.....

Kristen called and said she had been a chaperone with Jack's band on a trip to Disneyland on Thursday. They had a workshop and went into a recording studio (behind the scenes!) and were given music they had not seen before, played, critiqued, and played and recorded it. The teacher/leader whatever he was, said out of all the kids playing ... Jack was "spot on". He was playing the snare drum. Go Jack!!! xo Here he is with 4 other band members enjoying the Tea Cups...

There is a "lemon bar" recipe going around. I have seen it on several sites. It's called "2 Ingredient Lemon Bars". The original recipe calls for a box of Angel Food cake mix and 2 cans of lemon pie filling (42 oz total). Mix them together, put in 9x13 pan and bake at 350º for 25 min. Dust with powdered sugar. Jeannie made them and the consistency was, at best, icky! I decided to make them using regular cake mix and smaller cans of lemon (30 oz total)

They weren't done in the 25 min...cooked for another 12 minutes! Didn't put on powdered sugar. Their consistency is, yes, icky! Better than the angel food cake, but  don't even bother.

So, while they were cooking I sat on the front porch enjoying the afternoon.. Birds were out and busy...

...and the Bruise enjoyed watching the birdies too!

A fire started in Grants Pass along I-5 between exits 55 & 58 on the north side. It has destroyed two structures and 100 acres and fire crews from GP, Jackson Co, and the Dept of Forestry are all over it. The smoke blew this way .... very pungent and choking....

This youtube video of the fire sent to me by Dee...

Very tasty! YUMMMMY!!! Reruns for breakfast!

Bill Hilton ~ Chaka ~ Lizard ~ Macaroon Day

Good 37º clear morning.
The end of May already. Too fast....
This is going to be one of those days.. heater on in the morning, AC on in the afternoon!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Yesterday morning early I had a call from Carol that Bill Hilton had passed away about 10pm on Tuesday. Bill was an interesting guy. His father was in the German Army.... WWI:
He had Bill enlist in Hitler's Youth Corps and from there Bill went into the German Army during WWII.
In this photo, 3rd from right.... He fought in Italy and was shot through and through his upper legs. He spent time in a hospital there. He said wine was snuck in to those being cared for....
Bill with his maternal grandmother...
And Bill out of the Army....
He told me once that he was told the Americans were the ones killing the Jews. When he found out the real truth he left Germany, came to the US and never went back. He was a good neighbor. He helped us out with a lot of things when we first moved here. He was kind hearted and LOVED his dogs! RIP Bill.
Yesterday I did errands... post office (found out that Wednesday night the Cave Junction post office burned to the ground), stopped to see Tim Alden in his new leather shop in town. He makes boots and chaps etc.  Interesting:
Yeshua's blood????   "At-One-Ment" ????
Then to Safeway for a few items, Brian's office for a quick visit, then to Jeannie and Bill's.
Chaka was her charming self...
Jeannie and I had some wine and enjoyed the beautiful view from their deck...
... while I was taking pictures Mr. Lizzzzard was watching..
Bill drilled some holes in the sign I bought at Boatnik.. it will go up soon...
Cloudy (again!) ~ Santa Barbara Earthquake ~ WD-40 ~ Mint Julep
Good 46º cloudy morning. A year ago today it was 47º and cloudy. May is predictable. Come on June!
Heard from Deeewayne Honeee Pberger that there was an earthquake 4.6 in Santa Barbara....
<g>
The FedEx guy was here yesterday. I had on my USMC sweatshirt and he asked if I had been a Marine. I said, "No, my husband and son and Italian son." He said his mom was a Marine, his brother, and his son is now. His son is in Afghanistan for 18 months. I told him to write down his address and my friends and I will send a care package for him to share with his buddies. He said, "Really?" I said we'd love to. He's going to put his son's address in my mailbox. I said we'd send his favorite things... he said, "Junk food"! LOL OK, then.
More WD-40 uses:
In the kitchen, use WD-40 to remove stubborn food stuck to your refrigerator shelves. A few sprays of WD 40 will also help separate glass casserole dishes.
Remove paint, mascara and scruff marks from your tile floor.
For kid-related emergencies, WD-40 can remove chewing gum from carpets and hair, as well as take crayon off walls.
