Nutty Bruiser ~ Drummer Jack ~ Lemon Bars ~ Birds ~ Smoke ~ Pantry Pasta Dinner

Good 42º clear June morning.

                        OMG June!!

I had my back surgery 4 years ago today. Wow, time sure zips along!

Yesterday I was putzing around in the kitchen and Bruiser decides to attack a bag. This is a shopping bag provided by my son's State Farm office...
Bruiser attacked it, jumped on it, and then took a nap on it!
He's a nut!

Yesterday was exciting... sprayed weeds, put water in the 6 batteries in my golf cart, straightened out the check register and paid some bills. Whooppeeee.....

Kristen called and said she had been a chaperone with Jack's band on a trip to Disneyland on Thursday. They had a workshop and went into a recording studio (behind the scenes!) and were given music they had not seen before, played, critiqued, and played and recorded it. The teacher/leader whatever he was, said out of all the kids playing ... Jack was "spot on". He was playing the snare drum. Go Jack!!! xo Here he is with 4 other band members enjoying the Tea Cups...

There is a "lemon bar" recipe going around. I have seen it on several sites. It's called "2 Ingredient Lemon Bars". The original recipe calls for a box of Angel Food cake mix and 2 cans of lemon pie filling (42 oz total). Mix them together, put in 9x13 pan and bake at 350º for 25 min. Dust with powdered sugar. Jeannie made them and the consistency was, at best, icky! I decided to make them using regular cake mix and smaller cans of lemon (30 oz total)

They weren't done in the 25 min...cooked for another 12 minutes! Didn't put on powdered sugar. Their consistency is, yes, icky! Better than the angel food cake, but  don't even bother.

So, while they were cooking I sat on the front porch enjoying the afternoon.. Birds were out and busy...

...and the Bruise enjoyed watching the birdies too!

A fire started in Grants Pass along I-5 between exits 55 & 58 on the north side. It has destroyed two structures and 100 acres and fire crews from GP, Jackson Co, and the Dept of Forestry are all over it. The smoke blew this way .... very pungent and choking....

This youtube video of the fire sent to me by Dee...

Ok, so dinner last night, another pantry pot-luck...

Canned roast beef, tomatoes, olives, basil, garlic starter sauce, leeks, red onion, and angel hair pasta.

Cook the pasta for about 3 min, drain. Heat the beef with the rest of the ingredients, add the pasta, let bubble for a few minutes, add grated cheese.

Very tasty! YUMMMMY!!! Reruns for breakfast!

All I know. Tucker has baseball game today. Happy Saturday. Ciao.

Morning Sue,
I like Bruiser, can't wait to meet him in person some time soon. Your bird friends look very happy.

Sounds like Jack has a made a place for himself with the drums. Marine Corps Band in his future??

Thanks for testing the lemon bar recipes, I would have been tempted to try them and wonder what I did wrong.

I hope the fire is out and there were no more structures damaged and especially no one injured.

Your pantry dinner seemed a little iffy at first, but your final picture really looks yummy!!!

Keep up the great blog.

Great news about Jack and his drumming. Those cold music performances are so much fun to watch. I was present many times when our band did those and I was amazed at how great they sounded having never seen the music before.

Too bad about those lemon bars. I guess the old recipe for those is the best.
Dinner looks yum yum!!

I couldn't find in his bio why Andy Griffith won the medal given by President GW. Have you any idea? Andy was a life long Dem as is Ron Howard. What a disappointment when I realized that fact!

Hi Gail. Thanks for the note. The fires down in So. Cal desert areas, Santa Clarita, and Santa Barbara sound awful. Ours is 115 acres so far. Firefighters have it surrounded. Scary. xo

Trish, yes stick to the old lemon bar recipe. Andy Griffith got the Medal of Freedom from Bush in 2005. "Established by Executive Order 11085 in 1963, the Presidential Medal of Freedom, which is the Nation’s highest civil award, may be awarded by the President, “to any person who has made an especially meritorious contribution to (1) the security or national interests of the United States, or (2) world peace, or (3) cultural or other significant public or private endeavors.”
Muhammad Ali, Jack Nicklaus, and Aretha Franklin also go it. Got me scratchin'. xo
