Throw Back Thursday ~ 134 Freeway ~ Grants Pass Smoke ~ Dr. Jeffery Pelson OD ~ Garlic Roasted Broccoli

Good 62º smokey very dark and cloudy. I heard some rain last night about 11pm, but it didn't last long. Today there is a 60% chance of rain today. The radar is off to the north and west at this time.

Yesterday we topped at 82º.

Happy Throw Back Thursday....
On my birthday in 1986.... me and Tigger John Wayne Maxwell...
Such a sweet kitty. Missed so much!

I will NEVER again drive on the 134 Freeway in So. Cal!!!!! GAG!!!
Here is a photo shared by Steve Arnold of Grants Pass...
Had to be sunset, but there are no cars!!!

Yesterday morning I headed to the eye doc for my yearly checkup.... Gadz, driving was nasty... you have to have your headlights on!

My optometrist is Dr. Jeffery Pelson. He's at The Eye Care Group 1022 NW 6th St in Grants Pass. Highly recommended!!! He's great.

Dr Jeffery Pelson OD, is an Optomerty specialist.

He attended and graduated from Pacific

University College of Optomerty in 2002, having over 15

years of diverse experience, especially in

Optometry. Call 541-478-4545 for an appointment.

His assistant, Kylie, is from Hawaii. She is studying to be and Optometrist. She should graduate in March. She will be here until November. She is doing a residency with Dr. Pelson. She plans to work in Hawaii. Such a sweet and knowledgeable girl! Anyway, so far so good. Doc said everything OK.

Then, with my dilated eyes
I put on my dark glasses and went to Safeway for a quick shopping trip. Home and glad to be out to that nasty smoke!

Cleaning your house while your kids are still growing up is like shoveling the sidewalk before it stops snowing.

I want my children to have all the things I couldn't afford. Then I want to move in with them.

If you like broccoli... this is great and easy!

Garlic Roasted Broccoli
Serves 4

Ingredients:
1½ pounds fresh broccoli florets
½ red onion, sliced
3 garlic cloves, sliced
Olive oil
1 t. kosher salt or sea salt (I like sea salt the best!)
1 t. fresh ground black pepper
Preheat oven to 400º. Line baking sheet with aluminum foil.
Add broccoli, onions, and garlic to pan. Drizzle with olive oil. Sprinkle on salt and pepper. Toss with hands until coated. Wiggle pan until broccoli is in single layer.
Bake 20-25 minutes, until fork tender.

All I know. Nuff said. Happy TBT. Ciao.

Neither Rain Nor Snow Day

Neither Rain Nor Snow Day celebrates the opening of the New York Post Office building on this day in 1914.

This following inscription was inscribed on the building:
"Neither snow nor rain not heat nor gloom of night ,stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds."

Here is the second misconception: A lot of people assume the inscription represents the Post Office motto. This assumption is incorrect. But, this inscription is very close to the old Pony Express rider's motto. Which leads to a third misconception.. ......The Pony Express was not a government funded predecessor to today's Post Office. The Pony Express was a courier and message delivery service. However, it was privately owned and funded.

Now that we have the history and trivia out of the way, let's go and enjoy the day. We hope you use Neither Rain Nor Snow Day to show your appreciation to your postal delivery people, especially those who walk their routes.

Smoke/Turkeys/I-5 ~ Holland Island ~ Snowflake Award ~ Spaghetti ~ Particulate Mask ~ Zicam

Good 61º smokey morning. We topped at 86º yesterday. The smoke keeps the sun from coming through.....

Full moon was at midnight here.... if we didn't have such a smokey world here, we could see it.

Day time smoke..... and turkeys keeping from it as best they can...

This was on the news... a view of I-5 in Medford...

Yesterday for breakfast I put some of the leftover "one pan meal" of broccoli/carrots/celery/chicken/ricotta/pasta in a porcelain bowl, made a hole in the center, added an egg (pierced the yolk with a sharp knife), put a saucer on top and cooked in the microwave for 2½ minutes. That and some melon... Mmmmmmmm..

This is interesting....
Holland Island is in Maryland. It was once inhabitated, but is now abandoned. This house...
was the last one on the island. It fell into the bay in 2010.
Here is the award to all the Trump haters/whiners/protesters/looters/.......

Historically.....
1492 – Christopher Columbus sails from La Gomera in the Canary Islands, his final port of call before crossing the Atlantic for the first time.

1522 – The Victoria, the only surviving ship of Ferdinand Magellan's expedition, returns to Sanlúcar de Barrameda in Spain, becoming the first ship to circumnavigate the world.

1949 – A former sharpshooter in World War II, Howard Unruh kills 13 neighbors inCamden, New Jersey, with a souvenir Luger to become the first U.S. single-episode mass murderer.

1972 – Munich Massacre: 9 Israel athletes taken hostage at the Munich Olympic Gamesby the Palestinian "Black September" terrorist group died (as did a German policeman) at the hands of the kidnappers during a failed rescue attempt. 2 other Israeli athletes are slain in the initial attack the previous day.

1997 – Funeral of Diana, Princess of Wales takes place in London. Over a million people lined the streets and 2.5 billion watched around the world on television.

Whatever you may look like, marry a man your own age. As your beauty fades, so will his eyesight.

Housework can't kill you, but why take a chance?

I was in the cooking mood so I browned some hamburger with garlic and pepper.... I decided to make spaghetti...

The dried mushrooms were re-hydrated...

Then I sauteéd them in olive oil with garlic.

Cooked the angel hair pasta...
Added to the pan of mushrooms, the drained olives (after I ate half the can!!! LOL), the hamburger,  and the sauce....

Now that Bertolli Rustic Cut Pasta Sauce is sooo good. A bit spicy. Ingredients:
diced tomatoes, tomato paste, tomato puree, onions, carrots, EVOO, celery, garlic, salt, pepper, spices, and red pepper! OMGOOOOD!!!!

OMGOOOOOOD..........................That sauce was so good with crunchy bites of the vegetables.

Chair, wine, TV.

I have ordered some of the masks that keep the smoke out of your mouth and nose. The place in Grants Pass that was giving them out, ran out. I found the mask (3M 8511PB1-A-PS Particulate N95 Respirator with Valve, 10-Pack) at Amazon. Also I have found that the stuffiness and coughing can be controlled by taking Zicam. Zicam is great if you are coming down with a cold and it just gets rid of the symptoms.

All I know. Nuff said. Happy Hump Day. Ciao.
