Weather ~ Picture of the Day ~ Mount Everest ~ Cinnamon Roll Cake ~ National Caregivers Day

Good clear sky 27º frozen morning.

Yesterday we warmed to 65º.

Picture of the Day ... LOL!

Interesting about Mount Everest..........

Every year people come from across the globe to climb the world's highest peak. The treacherous ascent has become so popular that the mountain has been plagued by dangerous – and deadly – overcrowding. Pictures taken near the peak last year show long lines of climbers waiting to reach the summit, in an area with extreme conditions and low oxygen that's known as the "death zone."
Jim Davidson, a veteran high-altitude mountain climber, explained the experience to "CBS This Morning" last year: "We're up in the 'death zone' at 26,000 feet, so even on bottled oxygen, you're slowly dying. ... It gets very difficult to be up there, just to exist."
Nine people died on Everest in just over a week last year — more than all deaths the year before.
The descent — when most climbers perish — is so difficult that any extra burden, like oxygen and cooking gas cylinders, or climbing gear, is left behind on the mountain. Climbers are also forced to leave behind the bodies of their fellow climbers. In some cases, bodies and trash have been left in the snow and ice for decades.

"It's really hard to bring back heavy cylinders or dead bodies from the higher camps," Ang Tshering Sherpa, the former president of Nepal Mountaineering Association, told BBC Nepali. "Sherpa often risk their lives to do so. Most of the iced bodies weigh as much as 330 lbs, and that looks impossible for Sherpas to bring down."

From Mr. Food...

Instead of baking up individual cinnamon rolls for the whole gang, why not bake an entire Cinnamon Roll Cake? Our cinnamon roll cake recipe takes just 15 minutes and bakes up to be really pretty! Just cut a slice and you'll see!

  • 1 (8-ounce) package refrigerated crescent rolls
  • 2 tablespoons butter, softened
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 2 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 2 tablespoons confectioner's sugar
  • 2 teaspoons milk

  1. Preheat oven to 375º. Coat a 9-inch cake pan with cooking spray.
  2. Unroll the dough on a flat surface and pinch seams together. Spread butter evenly over dough. In a small bowl, mix sugar and cinnamon, then sprinkle over butter.
  3. Using a sharp knife, cut the dough lengthwise into six 2-inch wide strips. Roll up one strip and place in center of cake pan, end cut down. Place the remaining strips around the center roll, starting each strip at the end of the previous one. Bake 15-18 minutes or until golden brown. Let cool 5 minutes, then gently remove to a platter.
  4. In a small bowl, combine cream cheese, confectioner's sugar, and milk; mix until smooth. Spread icing over warm cinnamon roll cake and serve immediately.

****We think our Cinnamon Roll Cake tastes best when it's served warm, so get everyone to the table as quickly as possible!

National Caregivers Day on the third Friday in February honors the health care professionals across the country providing long-term and hospice care.
Around the nation dedicated health care professionals serve those who require long-term or hospice care. They provide vital services, reassuring patients and families who care about them.
Caregivers deliver a variety of duties from personal care to medical services with compassion and professionalism.  Their days may be long and demanding, but they provide support to those who need it most.
The celebration recognizes caregivers providing quality, compassionate care every day.

HOW TO OBSERVE

Take time to thank a caregiver for their dedication and care of our loved ones.  There are several ways to show your appreciation:
  • Give them a card of thanks.
  • Let them know with a kind word of encouragement.
  • Tell their supervisor how much you appreciate the services.
  • Employers can provide a special appreciation luncheon.

NATIONAL CAREGIVERS DAY HISTORY

Providers Association for Home Health & Hospice Agencies (PAHHHA) founded National Caregivers Day in 2015 to dedicate a day to caregivers everywhere. The first observance occurred in 2016. For more information please visit http://pahhha.org/.

WHY on God's green earth would anyone risk climbing Everest?? Sounds like a suicide mission for many! Maybe it needs to be closed but I guess if people want to kill themselves it's their right!

I love Kelsey Grammar. I record Frazier and watch an episode or two every evening. Eric and I went to see the show in person. It was great. He actually got on a knee and purposed to his girlfriend that night who was in the audience.

Happy Happy Birthday today too to our oldest son, John, III. He's 51 today! Damn I'm old! :(
