Armed Forces Gear ~ Clouds/Blue Sky/Clouds ~ Bruiser ~ Picture of the Day ~ Our Bacon vs British Bacon ~ 5 Ingredient Taco Casserole ~ National Cherry Cobbler Day

Good 48º very cloudy dark morning.

Stand by, tomorrow is a full moon!! It's also Armed Forces Day. Here is a site that sells all types of military gear... for every branch...

Yesterday clouds and then blue sky and then clouds, on and on...

Bruiser napped on the glider on the front porch while Dude did his "laying in the grass" routine.

Picture of the Day ...  the Wave Rock

Wave Rock in Western Australia is so named because that is exactly what it looks like: an ocean wave. It forms one side of a hill that is known as Hyden Rock. The granite rocks date back 2.63 billion years. Wave Rock is known as a flared slope because of its curving shape. Both Wave and Hyden rocks are located in Hyden Wildlife Park, a nature preserve.

Interesting about the difference between our bacon and British bacon...

American bacon is generally served in crispy strips, streaked with fat, while British bacon, also known as rashers, is chewier and thicker, served in round slices; it’s closer to a slice of grilled deli meat than what an American would traditionally call “bacon.” But what, exactly, causes the difference between British and American bacon? And British expats complain about the lack of British bacon in the United States, so why is this style of bacon so hard to find in the United States?

The difference between British and American bacon doesn’t really have to do with preparation of the meat. Even though American bacon is often smoked for flavor, and British bacon is often left un-smoked, or “green,” both styles of bacon are cured. (That curing process is, after all, what makes bacon bacon.)
The cut of meat is what makes all the difference. American bacon is streaky with fat because it comes from pork belly, one of the fattiest parts of the pig. Rashers, on the other hand, are cut from the loin, located in the middle of the pig’s back where the meat is leaner. The cut of meat that’s used for British bacon is actually the same cut as a pork tenderloin or loin roast, just sliced and cured differently.

 From Pillsbury recipe site....
We just love this easy five-ingredient taco casserole recipe. Fill a buttery crescent roll crust with your favorite taco fixings, then prepare to join the clean plate club. Top with shredded lettuce and tomato for an even more authentic taco experience.

1 can (8 oz) Pillsbury™ refrigerated crescent rolls

1 lb lean (at least 80%) ground beef

3/4 cup Old El Paso™ Thick 'n Chunky salsa

2 tablespoons Old El Paso™ taco seasoning mix (from 1-oz package)

1 cup shredded Cheddar cheese

  • Heat oven to 375°F. Unroll dough; separate into 8 triangles. Place in ungreased 9-inch square pan or 10-inch pie plate; press over bottom and up sides to form crust.
  •
In 10-inch skillet, cook beef over medium heat 8 to 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until thoroughly cooked; drain. Stir in salsa and taco seasoning mix; simmer 5 minutes. Spoon meat mixture in crust-lined pan; sprinkle with cheese.
  •
Bake 14 to 17 minutes or until crust is deep golden brown and cheese is melted. Served topped with lettuce and tomato, if desired.

National Cherry Cobbler Day is dedicated every May 17th to the delicious tart dessert that many enjoy with ice cream.
In the United States, cobbler refers to a variety of dishes that consist of a fruit filling (cherry being a popular choice ) covered with a batter, biscuit or pie crust that is then baked.  Some cobblers have both a top and bottom crust.
Cobblers originated in the early British American colonies.  It was because of the lack of suitable ingredients and proper cooking equipment that the English settlers were unable to make their traditional suet puddings, so to improvise, they covered a stewed filling with a layer of uncooked biscuits or dumplings.
A cherry cobbler differs from a crisp as a cobbler lacks oatmeal. Sometimes the cobbler is topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream!
