Good 36º cloudy rain on the way morning.

Yesterday the weather stayed cloudy and dark and we warmed to 45º. 

Today is one of those sad days for me. Jerry died this date 12 years ago. Born on 12-2 and died on 2-12. Not a day goes by I don't miss him terribly and get emotional. Just sayin'............ We always had a great time together, shared a lot of love, happy and agreeable. Love you and miss you Darling!♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥

 

 

This weekend Brian, Jen, Tucker, Sami, and Jean were all up in central and northern Oregon. Tucker had a swim meet on Friday night and Saturday. Sami had a gymnastics meet in McMinnville on Sunday. The meet was held in the Evergreen Air and Space Museum... https://www.evergreenmuseum.org/

Sami took 1st in the vault and 3rd all around...

Interesting re M&M's.....

In 1976, Mars, the candy company that makes M&M's, eliminated the red version of the candies from their mix. This decision came as a result of public controversy surrounding a synthetic dye called FD&C Red No. 2, also known as amaranth. The dye was used in red food coloring and was linked to cancer in a 1971 Russian study.

Because Red No. 2 was used to color many food products in the U.S., the public demanded that the government confirm the dye's safety. The Food and Drug Administration's subsequent tests produced inconclusive results in humans (but found that it caused malignant tumors in female rats) . The FDA concluded that the food colorant could not be presumed to be safe for human consumption and banned it in 1976.

Red M&M's disappeared shortly after the FDA issued its ruling , suggesting they were one of the Red No. 2 culprits. But consumers never faced any risk from red M&M's. "The red food coloring in question was not actually used in M&M's chocolate candies," according to mms.com. "However, to avoid consumer confusion, the red candies were pulled from the color mix."

The red colored M&M's were reintroduced in 1987.

A recipe to celebrate the Chinese New Year....

Baked Firecracker Chicken...

• 1/2 cup hot/chili sauce (such as Frank’s Red Hot or Sriracha)
• 1/2 cup brown sugar or honey
• 1 tablespoon soy sauce (gluten-free for gluten-free)
• 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
• 2 cloves garlic, grated
• 1 pinch red pepper flakes
• 1 tablespoon oil
• 1 pound boneless and skinless chicken breasts
• salt and pepper to taste

1. Heat the hot sauce, sugar, soy sauce, vinegar, garlic and chili pepper flakes in a small sauce pan until the sugar has melted into the sauce.
2. Heat the oil in a large oven safe skillet over medium-high heat, season the chicken with the salt and pepper, add to the pan and brown, about 3-5 minutes per side.
3. Transfer to a preheated 400 º oven and bake until the chicken is cooked, about 10-15 minutes, basting with the sauce every 5 minutes.
4. Enjoy with the remaining sauce!

Yesterday, 2-11, I missed putting another special birthday on my blog. Dennis Howell (LASD ret) was celebrating. 

Dennis worked at Temple with Jerry. HAPPY BIRTHDAY A DAY LATE DENNIS!

February 12th.is Abraham Lincoln's actual birth date. However, in modern times President Lincoln and all of the U.S. Presidents, are celebrated on President's Day.

Every American knows President Abraham Lincoln, the 16th President of the United States. "Honest Abe", as he was commonly known, was born in the wilderness country of Hardin County, Kentucky on February 12, 1809.

Abraham Lincoln became president in 1861. Although he hated war, he was drawn into it as he believed it was the only was to save the nation, after the southern states declared their secession from the Union.

In addition to serving as president during the civil war and saving the Union,  Lincoln wrote the Emancipation Proclamation that ended slavery in the U.S. forever.He also wrote and gave The Gettysburg Address, memorializing the bloodiest and most important battle of the Civil War. Gettysburg proved to be the turning point of the war.

Shortly after the war ended, Abraham Lincoln became the first U.S. President to be assassinated. He was shot and mortally wounded on Good Friday, April 14, 1865 by John Wilkes Booth in Ford's Theater.
