Clouds/Snow ~ 211 ~ Snow ~ Picture of the Day ~ FYI Instant Raman Noodles ~ Sue Lazy Day Stuffed Cabbage ~ National Peppermint Patty Day

Good 32º cloudy and still snow on the barn roof morning.

2-11.... 211... Radio code for robbery
211S ... Robbery alarm silent
211T ... Robbery alarm-teletronic

Yesterday the snow started melting. By noon we were at 41º.

The road was clear enough to take my trash down to the road. Did it fine, but while filling the trash can I slipped on some ice and BOOM! Landed on my butt! Fortunately I was not hurt and happy nobody saw me!!!! All I had was some wet jeans from my landing!

Interesting about instant raman noodles.... FYI

Ramen noodles are a packaged, instant type of noodle made from wheat flour, various vegetable oils and flavorings. The noodles are pre-cooked, meaning they have been steamed and then air dried or fried to shorten cooking time for consumers. Instant ramen noodles are sold in packages with a small packet of seasoning or in cups to which water can be added and then microwaved.

Instant ramen noodles were exported from Japan by Nissin Foods starting in 1971, bearing the name "Oodles of Noodles". One year later, it was re-branded "Nissin Cup Noodles", packaged in a foam food container, and subsequently saw a growth in international sales. Over time, the term "ramen" became used in North America to refer to other instant noodles, even those not technically ramen. Research has indicated that consuming instant ramen two or more times a week increases the likelihood of developing heart disease and other conditions including diabetes and stroke, especially in women.
“Ramen noodles are a highly processed convenience food that contains little nutritional value beyond empty calories, sodium, and saturated fat.”

Here is another favorite recipe of mine. Cabbage rolls are so good but work. This is Sue's Lazy Day Stuffed Cabbage

1 head cabbage, chopped
1 cup rice, cooked. (About 2½ cups when cooked)
1 - 1½ pounds ground pork
1 large onion, chopped
2 cans tomato soup
Brown meat and onion. In a 4 qt casserole layer the cabbage, rice, meat alternately 2 or 3 times, starting and ending with cabbage.

Top with undiluted soup that has been mixed smooth in a bowl. Bake at 350º for an hour, or until hot and cabbage is soft. Serve with mashed potatoes.

National Peppermint Patty Day is observed each year on February 11th.
The oldest commercially-made mint patty or cake was made by the Quiggin’s family on the Isle of Man (an island located in the middle of the northern Irish Sea). They had been making the cakes since 1840, but in 1880, four of the sons formed the Kendal Mint Cake Company.
In the United States, as early as 1900, peppermint patties were made by regional confectioneries. Companies such as Idaho Candy Company, Trudeau Candie’s and Pearson’s (which purchased Trudeau in 1951, both were Minnesota companies).  Possibly the most known, though not the oldest, York Peppermint Patties were made by the York Cone Company of Pennsylvania.
York Peppermint Pattie’s were first made in 1940 and distributed regionally much like other candy makers of the era.  York dominated the market because of its firmness and crispness while the others were soft. A former York employee remembered that the final (sample) test of the patty before it left the factory was called a “snap test.”  If the candy did not break clean in the middle, it did not make it onto candy store shelves.
In 1975 the company was acquired by Peter Paul Cadbury.  The factory was moved to Reading, Pennsylvania, to much distress to the workers and residents of York.  The popular treat was then distributed across the country.
HOW TO OBSERVE
A peppermint patty is a refreshingly cool mint and chocolate candy.  Pick some up today or try one of these delicious recipes:

Oh glad you weren't hurt in that fall. I did the same thing when Kevin and I were leaving the Library of Congress in DC. I was wearing fancy purple boots instead of my snow boots and slipped on the driveway and boom! Down I went. Thankfully I was wearing my full length fox coat and it cushioned my fall. I held on to Kevin's arm the whole way back to our congressman's office and slipped and slid several more times but didn't fall. It had snowed while we were in the LOC.

Ramen is one of Matthew and John's favorite foods. Didn't know it was so bad for them but once in a while is ok. Peppermint Pattys are John's favorite candy.
