Interesting about Julia Child........

Julia Child is probably best known for bringing French cuisine into America’s mainstream. Born in Pasadena California. But, few know that she had a dynamic career as an intelligence officer before she became a cooking icon.
Soon after the United States entered World War II, Julia felt the need to serve her country. Too tall to join the military (she was 6’2”), Julia volunteered her services to the Office of Strategic Services (OSS), which was the forerunner of today’s Central Intelligence Agency. She was one of 4,500 women who served in the OSS.
Julia then worked with the OSS Emergency Sea Rescue Equipment Section, where she helped develop shark repellent. The repellent was a critical tool during WWII, and was coated on explosives that were targeting German U-boats. Before the introduction of the shark repellent, curious sharks would sometimes set off the explosives when they bumped into them.

Bacon Chicken Alfredo Linguine Broccoli Skillet Meal

1 lb thick cut bacon

1 pound boneless skinless chicken breast

½ tsp kosher salt

1 tsp fresh ground black pepper

8 Tbsp unsalted butter

1 cup heavy cream

4 oz fresh Parmesan cheese

8 oz dried fettuccine

2 cups frozen broccoli florets

Preheat a large (12") skillet over high heat.
Fill large stock pot with water, add pasta when water boils. Cover pot and bring to a boil over high heat. Once pasta is pliable (no longer breaks if you try to bend it) add broccoli. Cook until pasta is just shy of al dente. Remove from heat.
Meanwhile: Grate cheese and set aside.
Once skillet is hot; use clean scissors to cut bite size pieces of bacon into skillet. Cook, stirring occasionally until bacon is cooked through (adjust heat as necessary). Cook time about 10 minutes.
Meanwhile; wash and chop chicken into bite size pieces. Set aside.
Remove cooked bacon from skillet with a slotted spoon. Place on a plate. Drain most of bacon grease from skillet, leave about 1 Tbsp (do not wash skillet). Add chicken to skillet. Return to stove and medium-high heat. Sprinkle with salt and pepper. Cook until cooked through, stirring occasionally. Remove chicken from skillet, about 5 minutes.
Drain drippings from pan. Return to stove, over medium heat. Cut butter into 8 pieces and add to skillet. Once butter is mostly melted add cream and whisk until combined. Add cheese and whisk until your Alfredo sauce is smooth, keep sauce at a bubble.
Using tongs, remove pasta and broccoli from water and add to Alfredo sauce. Twist the pasta in the sauce to coat. Add chicken and bacon, toss with and tongs. Heat until sauce is absorbed and coats the pasta, about 5 minutes.
Serve and enjoy!

Each year on October 24, people across the nation make a sandwich to take part in National Bologna Day.  This would be a good day to have a bologna sandwich for lunch.
  • Sometimes spelled baloney (as it is pronounced), Bologna has been one of the more popular luncheon meats for decades.
  • Favorite bologna sandwich garnishes are mustard, ketchup, mayonnaise, cheese, lettuce, pickles, tomato, and onion.
  • Bologna is derived from and is somewhat similar to the Italian mortadella (a finely hashed/ground port sausage) that originated in Bologna, Italy.
  • United States government regulations require American bologna to be finely ground and without visible pieces of lard.
  • Bologna can alternatively be made out of chicken, turkey, beef, pork, venison or soy protein.
  • Bologna Bowl – When a slice of bologna is heated, the fat renders and the round slice takes the shape of a bowl which may be filled with cheese or other fillings.
There is a variety of different types of bologna:
German Bologna
Kosher or halal bologna
Lebanon bologna
Lauantaimakkara
Rag bologna
South African polony
Vegetarian
HOW TO OBSERVE
To celebrate National Bologna Day, try something new and enjoy these bologna recipes:

I thought Brian was your SF agent??

What a treasure of a truck you have sitting there rusting away. You should advertise it far and wide. Some collector would love to restore it and probably pay you big buckeroos for it.

Reading about David Nelson and wondering why he didn't want to be interned with the rest of the Nelson family. hmmmm

I have met and have a photo with Mary Bono. Hope this last husband is "the one"!

We had a similar dinner last night to the recipe you posted. Ours was by Birds Eye and came in a big pouch. Have you tried those? Really good and so convenient! I served with fried okra and sliced tomatoes.

Sad Dodger game. Did you really sit thru the entire game? I would have been crying from boredom! :(

XO Trisha

Brian is my agent, but Dean is local and a friend. He wanted to come by and see the truck. I won't have people coming up here to look at the truck. Dean and Brian both are telling people about it and if someone they know is interested they will let me know.
Dodger Sox game was good. Sox are really awesome! Still rooting for the Dodgers though! Yes, I watched the whole thing. xo

LOVED the opening game of the World Series. I confess I did take a break from the TV for part of the game, but I kept the sound on so I wouldn't miss a thing.

There is so much about baseball to love. Starting with the grass fields. How the announcers are able to speak over the World Series crowd- that is a miracle of modern technology.

Mary Bono has lived an interesting life. Think I like mine having less "interest".

Wow. Gerry's truck is the same age as me. Not sure which of us has held up better.I don't run either, but I can walk, and I bet ol yeller there can't.

Catch up with you tomorrow.

Well, even if you don't run, L, you are still in better shape than Jerry's truck! xo
