10-22 ~ GP HS Marching Band ~ My Patriots ~ Picture of the Day ~ National Law Enforcement Museum ~ Easy Creamy Cornbread Casserole ~ National Nut Day

Good 36º clear morning.

Yesterday we stayed a tiny bit cooler and warmed to 83º.

10-22 police code for 'cancel'  or "forgetaboutit!"

Saturday Tucker's band, The Grants Pass High School Marching Band, was in Hillsboro (up by Portland) for a band contest and they WON all the competitions!!!!

Yesterday my Patriots played the Chicago Bears (aka "duh Bears")
Sorry Big Dan, Suz and Phil.
It looked like a super beautiful day in Chicago!

Picture of the Day.....
How I feel when Bruiser is laying on my arm!

Interesting..... The new National Law Enforcement Museum in Washington D.C.

The Museum’s official ribbon-cutting ceremony was held on Thursday, October 11! Guests included Former Philadelphia (PA) Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey, Washington, DC Mayor Muriel Bowser, U.S. Secretary of Interior Ryan Zinke, former Attorney General John Ashcroft, U.S. Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein and Clint Eastwood.

On Saturday, October 13, the Museum opened to the public with a grand Community Day celebration for families. Activities included a 5K, music, face painting, fingerprinting, badge coloring and K-9 demonstrations.

This Easy Creamy Cornbread Casserole is pure comfort and an excellent side dish for the holidays or all year round!

Servings8

 2 large eggs
1 cup sour cream
1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted

8.5 ounce package cornbread mix
15 ounce can whole corn kernels, drained
15 ounce can creamed corn

  1. Preheat oven to 350º. Coat a 9x9-inch baking dish with nonstick cooking spray.

  2. In a large bowl, which together the eggs, sour cream, butter, and sugar until combined and smooth. Add in the cornbread mix, sugar, whole corn, and creamed corn, stirring until combined. Pour into prepared baking dish.

  3. Bake for 55-60 minutes until top is golden.

Notes from the cook....
I like the touch of sugar in here, but simply omit if that’s not your thing.

I’ve also made this several times with 1/2 pound cooked and crumbled Italian sausage, mixed into the batter before baking. Delish!

This recipe easily doubles and baked in a 9x13 dish.

Such a creepy person and should NEVER have been paroled!!!

Yesterday I was good, went upstairs and cleaned out stuff that has been there too long..... 2 large trash bags full. I keep wrapping paper up there and occasionally Bruiser goes up there and tears some of it up and then he naps on one of the beds!

Dinner was Schwans Shrimp Spring Rolls and some shrimp scampi mixed with peas.....

Then it was chair,

, wine, and TV.

All I know. Nuff said. Happy Monday. Ciao.

NATIONAL NUT DAY

 ? or or.......

National Nut Day is observed annually on October 22. This day is NOT about the neighbor that lives down the street or the crazy co-worker, it is a food holiday that celebrates a healthy and nutritious snack.
Nuts are a highly prized food and energy source and are a primary source of nutrients for both humans and wildlife.   Many of them are used in cooking, eaten raw, sprouted or roasted as a snack food and pressed for oil that is used in cookery and cosmetics.
The fats found in nuts, for the most part, are unsaturated fats including monounsaturated fats.
Many nuts are excellent sources of vitamins E and B2. They are also rich in protein, folate fiber and essential minerals such as magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, copper and selenium.
Nuts are essential to animals, especially those in temperate climates, as they store acorns and other nuts during the autumn months to keep from starving during late fall, all winter and early spring.
Several studies have shown that those who consume nuts on a regular basis are less likely to suffer from coronary heart disease (CHD).  It was in 1993 that nuts were first linked to protection against CHD.   Since that time, many clinical trials have found that consumption of various nuts, such as almonds and walnuts, can lower serum LDL cholesterol concentrations.
One study has shown that people who ate nuts lived two to three years longer than those who did not. Those who were consuming nuts may have been eating less junk food leading to a longer lifespan.
Nuts are healthiest in their raw form.
HOW TO OBSERVE
To celebrate National Nut Day, have a snack consisting of raw nuts during the day and try this  Mixed Nut Bars recipe.
HISTORY
Liberation Foods Company created National Nut Day as a way to advocate Fairtrade nuts and promote healthy living!

I loved those mini chicken pot pies you showed yesterday. I want to make those.

CONGRATULATIONS TUCKER!! I see they aren't wearing shakos (hats with plumes) Why is that? Our band didn't wear theirs in the last band review because of the rain. They have won sweeps in all categories in every band review this year. :) Anyway, your two grands are talented kiddos!

Happy Nut Day! :)

XO Trisha
