Full Moon ~ Contrails ~ Bruiser ~ Jen/Sami/Jean ~ Picture of the Day ~ Davy Crockett ~ Farmer's Breakfast Bake ~ National Dog Day

Good 46º clear sunny morning.

Today is a full moon. Be careful out there!! Now, were you born on a full moon? Check this link to find out.. enter your birthday and it will tell you....
Here is the full moon calendar and with some interesting information:
On the west coast the full moon will rise at 7:54 pm and set on Monday morning at 7:22 am. Mountain time: rise 7:28pm and set Monday at 6:57am.  Central time: rise 7:18pm and set Monday 5:41am.  Eastern time: rise 8:01pm and set Monday 7:11am.

We started out pretty clear yesterday morning. In fact, I hadn't seen any contrails in a long while!

The day stayed breezy and clear. It was sooooooo nice. We topped at 92º by late afternoon.

By 6:30 a few clouds were gathering....

Brian's Jen, Sami, and Jen's mom Jean have been on a trip to Disney World because Jen is a Disney Travel Agent.
Brian and Tucker didn't go because Tucker's school band had practice for the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. Anyway Jen, Sami, and Jean were to be back yesterday but with the smoke here so bad their flight from LAX to Medford (arrival time was to be 3pm) was canceled because of the heavy smoke in the Medford area. This morning Brian said they got back and were all still sleeping, so I don't know what time they arrived.

Yesterday I was watching an animal video and Bruiser was laying on my desk. He was fascinated by the video and watched it all......

Picture of the Day....
It's either good timing or the right spot at the right time!

Interesting about Davy Crockett

David "Davy" Crockett, born August 17,1786 in eastern Tennessee, was a Legendary hunter and storyteller. Known as the King of the wild frontier, His popularity was enough to get him elected first to the Tennessee state legislature in 1821 and then to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1825. His opposition to Sitting President Andrew Jackson caused him to lose his seat, and once he realized Martin Van Buren was going to replace Jackson as President, Crockett set his Coonskin cap for Texas.
Knowing a revolution was brewing, Crockett began raising a company of volunteers to accompany him to Texas. In January, 1836 Crockett and 65 men arrived in Nacogdoches Texas, where they signed an oath to the provisional Government of Texas for six months. Each man was promised about 4600 acres for their service.
Crockett arrived at the Alamo on February 8. On February 23, to the garrison's surprise, a Mexican army, led by General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna arrived.
After a few skirmishes and unanswered requests for reinforcements, the battle at mission Alamo de Valero in San Antonio de Bexar was set.
The exact fate of Davy Crockett is not certain except that on March 6, 1836 at the age of 49, he and 162 other defenders lost their lives. However, a former slave named Ben, who acted as cook for one of Santa Anna's Officers, maintained that Crockett's body was found in the barracks surrounded by "no less than 16 Mexican corpses", with Crockett's knife buried in one of them.

Then of course there was Fess Parker who played in the 1954-1955  TV series Davy Crockett....

Farmer's Breakfast Bake is a spin on an old favorite. Sort of a cross between a quiche and a tart, this breakfast dish features an amazing hash brown crust and creamy cheese layer your whole family will love!
  •
  • 1 (20-ounce) package refrigerated shredded hash browns
  • 4 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 4 eggs
  • 3/4 cup half-and-half
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup shredded Swiss cheese
  • 1 cup shredded Cheddar cheese
  • 1/3 cup diced ham

  1. Preheat oven to 450º. Coat a 9-inch deep dish pie plate with cooking spray.
  2. In a medium bowl, combine potatoes and butter until evenly coated. Press potatoes into bottom and up sides of prepared pie plate to form a crust. Bake 30 minutes, or until crust begins to brown.
  3. Meanwhile, in a small bowl, combine eggs, half-and-half, and pepper; mix well.
  4. Sprinkle cheeses and ham over crust. Pour egg mixture slowly over cheeses and return to oven.
  5. Reduce temperature to 350 º and bake 30 minutes, or until set in center. Let cool 5 minutes; slice and serve.

All I know. Nuff said. Happy Sunday. Ciao.

National Dog Day is observed annually on August 26th.
This day encourages dog ownership of all breeds. Whether mixed or purebred, embrace the opportunity for all dogs to live a happy, safe and abuse-free life. Dogs give us companionship; they keep us safe, and they aid those in need. It is a goal for many on this day to find homes for all dogs in need of a loving family. The purpose of the National Dog Day Foundation is to rescue 10,000 dogs each year.
A dog is man’s best friend.
When dogs find a forever home, their companionship creates lifelong benefits. They bring with them joy, loyalty, and devotion. Eventually, no matter the breed, these pets become family.
HOW TO OBSERVE
Use #NationalDogDay and post photos of your dog on social media.  Take your dog for a walk.  If you do not have a dog, ask to take your neighbor’s dog for a stroll or volunteer at a shelter.

So, today officially has a Dog Day Afternoon.

I hope it wasn't as hot at Disneyworld as I suspect it was.

Who picked the channel- you or Bruiser?

If you get a chance- The History Channel ran a special series The Men Who Built America: Frontiersmen. There is an excellent segment on Davy Crockett.

How wonderful that the girls got a free trip to Disney. You said "Disney World". Did you mean Disneyland? I sort of thought that was the case when you said they were leaving from LAX.
That's sad when a flight has to be canceled because of smoke from fires. Glad they are home safe and sound and sleeping. :)

Too bad Tucker and Brian didn't get to go but in this family we certainly know about being in the band and practicing for important events.
