Good 55º cloudy morning.
Yesterday we had lots of clear sky all day with a few cirrus clouds. We warmed to 85º by late afternoon.
I found out that Jen,Sami, and Jean's plane got into Medford at 12:30am Sunday. It originally was to be in at 3pm Saturday. Then Brian said they had to wait an hour for their bags!!! He didn't get them home until 2am. Everyone sleepy!
OMGOSH, what a pain all that smoke has caused! I saw on the news that many many flights were cancelled out of Medford and one gentleman is in a band and was flying to somewhere like Denver. Since he couldn't fly there, he rented a car and was going to drive. Medford seems to get a lot more smoke down in the valley and it just lays there.

Interesting about ladybugs...
Coccinellidae (/ˌkɒksɪˈnɛlɪdiː/) is a widespread family of small beetles ranging in size from 0.03 to 0.71 inches. The family is commonly known as ladybugs in North America, and ladybirds in Britain and other parts of the English-speaking world. Entomologists widely prefer the names ladybird beetles or lady beetles as these insects are not classified as true bugs.
The majority of coccinellid species are generally considered useful insects, because many species prey on herbivorous homopterans such as aphids or scale insects, which are agricultural pests. Many coccinellids lay their eggs directly in aphid and scale insect colonies in order to ensure their larvae have an immediate food source.
The name coccinellids is derived from the Latin word coccineus meaning "scarlet". The name "ladybird" originated in Britain where the insects became known as "Our Lady's bird" or the Lady beetle. Mary (Our Lady) was often depicted wearing a red cloak in early paintings, and the spots of the seven-spot ladybird (the most common in Europe) were said to symbolise her seven joys and seven sorrows. In the United States, the name was adapted to "ladybug". Common names in some other European languages have the same association, for example, the German name Marienkäfer translates to Marybeetle.
Coccinellids are often conspicuously coloured yellow, orange, or red with small black spots on their wing covers, with black legs, heads and antennae. There is, however, great variation in these colour patterns. For example, a minority of species, such as Vibidia duodecimguttata, a twelve-spotted species, have whitish spots on a brown background. Coccinellids are found worldwide, with over 6,000 species described.
Most coccinellids have round to elliptical, dome-shaped bodies with six short legs. Depending on the species, they can have spots, stripes, or no markings at all. Seven-spotted coccinellids are red or orange with three spots on each side and one in the middle; they have a black head with white patches on each side.
The main predators of coccinellids are usually birds, but they are also the prey of frogs, wasps, spiders, and dragonflies. The bright colours of many coccinellids discourage some potential predators from making a meal of them.
Most coccinellids overwinter as adults, aggregating on the south sides of large objects such as trees or houses during the winter months, dispersing in response to increasing day length in the spring.
The ladybird was immortalised in the popular children's nursery rhyme Ladybird Ladybird:
.... how we have always said that poem here in the USA...
Ladybug! Ladybug!
Fly away home.
Your house is on fire.
And your children all gone.
Fly away home.

And your children all gone.
All except one,
And that's little Ann,
For she crept under
The frying pan.

Easy Simple 4 Ingredient Roast Chicken Dinner
Let the oven do the work!
3 1/2 - 5 pound whole chicken
2 pounds baby potatoes, halved if large
1 t. olive oil
1 T. salt
1 t. ground black pepper
1 bunch asparagus
Preheat oven to 450º.
Toss potatoes with olive oil in a baking dish and season lightly with salt . (not much olive oil is needed as the chicken will seep quite a bit of liquid which included fat that renders off the chicken.)
Place chicken on top of potatoes and season with remaining salt and pepper.
Bake for 90 minutes, or until the internal temperature of the thickest part of the chicken thigh (without hitting the bone) is 165º.
About 8 minutes before the chicken is finished add the asparagus to the pan.
Allow the chicken to rest 5-10 minutes before carving.
**The size of the chicken will determine cooking time. The chicken in the picture is approximately 5 pounds and took 90 minutes to cook. Rule of thumb is to cook the chicken 20 minutes per pound.
