Sun ~ Fire Through Wayside Ranges ~ Throw Back Thursday ~ Pearl Harbor Day ~ Crab Cakes ~ Cotton Candy

Good  27º everything frozen again morning.

Yesterday the frozen went away after the sun broke through about 10am. Yeah!

You can see the ice evaporating ... the little steam rising...

The fire in So. Cal has destroyed the LASD Wayside upper and lower ranges and the emporium. Here are a few photos taken by my friend Richard Escalante and some of the staff ...

Fire-Rescue from Medford, Fire District 3, Illinois Valley Fire, Rogue River Fire, and Applegate Fire left yesterday morning to deploy in California.

Throw Back Thursday...

Mike got here about 2pm and did a lot of leaf blowing and some tree/bush trimming. He will be back ....

I took Dude to the vets for his mani-pedi in the afternoon.

Something yummy and easy...
Crab Cakes:

1 cup mayonnaise
1 egg
1 T Dijon mustard
1 T. hot sauce
2 cloves garlic, minced
(I like to add a celery stock finely diced and a green onion, finely diced. You can also add 1/4 cup finely chopped parsley.)
1 t. seafood seasoning (Old Bay is good!)
1/4 t. salt
1/4 t. black pepper
3/4 cup bread crumbs
16 oz lump crab meat, canned or fresh
olive oil
In a large bowl whisk together mayonnaise, egg, mustard, hot sauce, garlic, seafood seasoning, salt and pepper. Gently stir in bread crumbs and crab until just combined. Form into crab cakes.
In large skillet over medium heat, heat 2 T olive oil. Sauté crab cakes 3-4 minutes each side until golden brown. Remove to platter and cover with foil to keep warm. Repeat with remaining cakes and add more oil as needed.

Dinner was reruns. Then chair, wine, and TV.... S.W.A.T., News, NYPD Blue and I went to bed early!

All I know. Nuff said. Happy TBT. Ciao.

December 7th
Pearl Harbor Day
and
National Cotton Candy Day

Cotton Candy is a popular summertime treat. That being the case, why do we celebrate this day in the middle of December? Good question.
The Cotton Candy machine was patented in 1899 by William Morrison and John C. Wharton. They brought it to the St. Louis World's Fair in 1904, where is was quite popular. Cotton Candy is a favorite at amusement parks, circuses, fairs, and sports venues.
Cotton Candy was originally called fairy floss. It is made from Floss (or Flossine) sugar.
