Egg Nog:
Although some continue to debate the origin of eggnog, most
culinary historians agree this spiced and spiked milk-and-egg-yolk mixture
originated in early medieval England. It was originally called "posset," a
milky, ale-like drink served hot. In the 13th century, monks drank posset made
with eggs and figs. The wealthy used milk, eggs and sherry in their posset
toasts to prosperity and good health. Eggnog became a Christmas favorite when it
crossed to the American colonies in the 1700s.

I had a chat with the Hughes Net tech yesterday. I was told the problem I
am having is being worked on by their engineers, as a number in our area are
having the same problems. Their excuse was a large number of new customers. Ok,
fine. It is supposed to be totally fixed by 4 weeks and for the next 6 months I
get a $30 discount on my bill because of the troubles. Hmmmm............ It is working slightly faster right now, but sure hope it improves to what it is supposed to be!
For dinner I had some leftover frozen angel hair pasta and some clams I
thawed out. Heated them all together with some green beans and cooked yam and drizzled on olive oil and some garlic salt. Mmmmmm........
Chair, wine, TV..... a new show I like, S.W.A.T. (about LAPD's swat team with lots of LA City scenery), NYPD Blue, news (HORRIFIC fires in So. Cal and my heart breaks for all those people!).
Mike is coming over today to blow the leaves off the road,
trim up the grapevines and a big bush in the back of the house and work on
taking down a dead oak tree. Maybe he can get to the leaves in the gutters too.
Or else, he'll be back again.....
All I know. Nuff said. Happy Hump Day. Ciao.

Saint Nicholas Day
Yes, there really was a Christian Saint Nicholas. He lived in the country
of Greece, just a couple hundred years after the birth of Christ. This day is in
honor of Saint Nicholas and his life.
Saint Nicholas became a priest, and later, a Bishop of the early Catholic
Church. True to the Christian concept of giving up belongings and following
Christ, St. Nicholas gave up all of his belongings. He was well known for giving
to needy people, especially children. There are many stories and tales of him
helping out children in need.
The practice of hanging up stockings originated with Saint Nicholas. As the
ancient legend goes, Saint Nicholas was known to throw small bags of gold coins
into the open windows of poor homes. After one bag of gold fell into the
stocking of a child, news got around. Children soon began hanging their stocking
by their chimneys "in hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there".
It wasn't until the 1800's that the spirit of St. Nicholas' life evolved
into the creation of Santa Claus. And, this happened in America. Santa Claus
emerged (or evolved) from the stories and legends of St. Nicholas. Santa Claus
was kind and generous to children. Unlike "St. Nick", Santa Claus is largely a
non-religious character.
