Good clear BURRRRRRR 19º morning. Frozen City!
Ahhhh yesterday.... I recorded several of the channels that had the Rose
Parade. Some of the "hosts" are terminally irritating. The ABC channel was awful
... Hanna Storm and John Anderson never SHUT UP! The camera missed many of the
floats and bands. Then John Naber stood on the street and was going on and on
about the Salvation Army when the Burbank float went by, with nary a mention or
even good camera angle! Come on!! It won the Theme Trophy!! Storm and Anderson I
think just liked the sound of their own voices! She called the street "Colorado
Avenue". BOULEVARD, idiot! And they kept saying they were in Los Angeles.
PASADENA, idiots!
I then watched the KTLA version with Bob Eubanks and Stephanie Edwards.
Their last parade after doing this for 35 years!
They didn't miss ONE SINGLE BAND OR FLOAT! They even named the queen and all the
Princesses on the Queen's float!
Their commercials would start when the
camera was on a band and when the commercials ended they were still on the band
and we could hear them play! ABC sucked big time! They even had "tweets" popping
up on the screen blocking out the camera's view. Going to write them, but I
doubt it will do any good! Thanks KTLA for a great Rose Parade view!
Looking at the parade and the views of Pasadena and the San Gabriel Valley
got me soooooooo nostalgic from
being a small child and watching it on the TV in front of a
TV tray with my grandmother's cherry cake and egg nog, to marching in the parade
playing the glockenspiel
with the LA Sheriff's Boy's Band
(I don't think I wanted my picture
taken!),
to working the parade as a deputy. My corner was Orange
Grove and Colorado. I escorted Sheriff Block to his seat on a couple of those
occasions, pulled chained together demonstrators off the parade route who sat
down in front of the Queen's float (getting my 15 seconds of fame on TV with my
nephew calling my sister and yelling, "I JUST SAW AUNT SUE ON THE TV!) Each
memory special. Well, except that in the band we marched behind the Sheriff's
Mounted
(Eugene Biscailuz, then retired), and the horses left those
wonderful little 'surprises' for us to step in! White boots were
brown!
Prior to breakfast was hot coffee with Bailey's Irish Cream.
Yummm... Then Egg-Tastic eggs with Creamy Garlic Sauce, parmesan cheese, and
chives, set on baby spinach with some Greek yogurt. (if you don't have the
creamy garlic sauce, put a spoonful of mayonnaise in your scrambled eggs. Makes
them sooooooooooooo creamy and good!)
Grrrrrrr..................
Today is the

The Rose Bowl Game between Stanford and Iowa was pretty one-sided.
Stanford 45 and Iowa 16. I guess after losing last year to the Oregon Ducks,
Stanford wasn't going to let a loss happen this year! Last year Stanford lost to
Iowa 16-6 prior to the Rose Bowl where their loss to Oregon was 38-36.
The wind was really wild at times yesterday. Dude just lay on "his couch"
watching it out the door...
After some house cleaning yesterday it was chair time... leftover turkey
soup, wine, and TV.
All I know. Nuff said. Happy Saturday. Ciao.

Nothing could be definitely decided as to what special day today was, so
there is a choice...

We to watched the Rose Parade. Brought back so many good memories. I remember trying to sleep on Colorado Blvd. when I was in high school, but that was when they let the hot rods cruise with their opened up headers. If we ever had to live in SoCal again it would probably be in Sierra Madre...such a cool town and not quite as crowded as other places. You and I were lucky to grow up in East LA.
Yes we were Babette! Different times too. At this point in time, I don't think there is anywhere in California I'd want to live. Feel Blessed to be here! xo
When I was young we used to watch Channel 11. They had their station set up right at the big curve so you could see all sides of the floats. Years ago I switched to KTLA 5 and never went back. We will miss Stephanie and Bob.
I remember the one time we attended in person. I think all of Diamond Bar went. We loaded up on school buses and had reserved seats in the stands. That's when Kevin and Daryl were freshmen and marched with the Diamond Bar Hi "Thundering Herd". Our band was in it again in 2001 but I missed it because I was at the airport taking a flight to Washington, DC for the swearing in of our congressman.
John used to work the parade as well as the Rose Bowl. What a day!
