National Gumbo Day
GUMBO
A Creole soup from Louisiana,
thickened with okra pods. “Gumbo” is an African word for okra. Okra came to
America with the slave trade and was introduced to the white population by
African cooks. As with all recipes, there are regional variations and different
styles of gumbo.

You told us something I did not know. I didn't know that Gumbo means okra. YUMMY OKRA! It is a staple in my freezer. At times I buy the ones already coated but mostly I coat my own in corn meal. My kids always fought over who got the most. Really cool when the kids don't like many veggies.
Our fave dinner is fried chicken, fried okra, Rice a Roni, pinto beans and if I am feeling like making it, corn bread. A real Southern dinner!
Congrats on your Pat's win! :)

T, you didn't know gumbo means okra??? OMG. I love okra too... either slimy like Daddy liked it or fried crispy like Jerry liked it. One was Georgia style and one Texas style! xo
