Rain ~ TBT ~ Jokes ~ Taxes ~ "Joe" Day

Good 41º it's light out, I slept late no rain so far morning. In this last storm we got 3/4" and more on the way.
We had rain starting in the night on Tuesday. Was raining when I got up yesterday morning and rained on and off all day. Patty said at the coast it was POURING and hailing!

Here's a look at downtown Grants Pass...

THROW BACK THURSDAY photo.... Jerry and I at one of our favorite places,  Fisherman's Wharf in SF in 1987... enjoying some of that wonderful Cioppino and Boudin's sourdough bread!

This from Jon Ray (LASD ret) ..... LOL!!!

Longevity Study....
A recent study has found that women who carry a little
extra weight live longer than the men who mention it.

Ok....
What a relief to have my taxes done. Electronic filing and a check will be in the mail shortly! YIPPPEEEEE. So fun to get $$ in the mail~!!!

I think that idiot in the White House and his spouse and rude mother-in-law ought to take this to heart:

Historically this date....
1794 – The United States Government establishes a permanent navy and authorizes the building of six frigates.

..........so, how come you Navy guys don't celebrate this date as the Birthday of the Navy??? Why do you celebrate October 13th? ....
The ```Act to Provide a Naval Armament, also known as the Naval Act of 1794, or simply, the Naval Act, was passed by the United States Congress on March 27, 1794 and established the first naval force of the United States of America, which eventually became the present-day United States Navy.

1886 – Famous Apache warriorGeronimo, surrenders to the U.S. Army, ending the main phase of the Apache Wars.

1964 – The Good Friday Earthquake, the most powerful earthquake in U.S. history at amagnitude of 9.2 strikes South Central Alaska, killing 125 people and inflicting massive damage to the city of Anchorage.

And births this date include...
1899 – Gloria Swanson, American actress (d. 1983)
... not unlike Joan Crawford.... drama....

National "Joe" Day
National Joe Day is a chance to change your name, if only for today.
Many people do not like their given name. They wish they could change it. A few actually do. On National Joe Day, it is perfectly okay to have everyone call your "Joe". Why Joe, and not Bob or Mike or Radcliffe? Simply, because everyone likes the name Joe. If you are called Joe today, we know that you're "Joe cool"!
This works well for the men out there. What about the ladies? We suggest you choose Josephine or Jody.

A family story about that... my brother-in-law when discharged from the Army after the Korean War was hitchhiking home to St. Louis and a man gave him a ride. All the way to St. Louis this man called my brother-in-law "Joe".... when they finally reached the destination he asked, "By the way, what is your name?" "It's Joe."  My brother-in-law Joe, was a tall guy, 6'6", and looked good in a uniform. His son, Joe Jr. is also tall, 6'7", and a doctor. Looks good with his white coat on!!!

Gorgeous couple! Nice to have memories like that to sort back through.

I didn't like my first name as a child. But I got used to it.

I changed my last name. Offered to keep the old one when we got married- but my husband said his wife would be Mrs. Plunk...

I married carefully chosing an English name (Pendleton) to go with my Irish name (Laney) and then a Scottish name (Maxwell). ox
