Power Bill ~ Kwanza ~ Whatever ~ Quinoa Salad ~ Rolo Pretzel Bites

Good 39º too dark to see yet morning.

Looks like weather that's not too bad for Christmas, but cold!

A good thing... I just saw my electric bill. Since I don't have "city water" and my well pump is run with electricity... so when the power goes out, we don't have water. Anyway, the pump ran for 8 days while the pipe in the pasture was broken. I thought I'd have to take out a loan to pay Pacific Power. Not. It's only $283!!! OMG. I am soooooo happy.

On a more dire note....
If you think Kwanza is an African holiday, think twice! Invented by a black activist, felon. This is but another who is trying to take down anything American. He's a PROFESSOR ???? After being convicted and spending time in Ca prison for false imprisonment and assault on two females???? 'They' let him teach?????
“The victims said they were living at Karenga’s home when Karenga accused them of trying to [poison] him. . . . When they denied it, allegedly they were beaten with an electrical cord and a hot soldering iron was put in [one victim’s] mouth and against her face. Police were told that one of [the other victim’s] toes was placed in a small vise which was allegedly tightened by one of the defendants. The following day . . . Karenga, holding a gun, threatened to shoot both of them.”
Convicted of felonious assault and false imprisonment, Mr. Karenga was sentenced in 1971 to up to 10 years in prison. “A brief account of the sentencing ran in several newspapers the following day,” Mr. Mulshine writes. “That was apparently the last newspaper article to mention Karenga’s unfortunate habit of doing unspeakable things to black people. After that, the only coverage came from the hundreds of news accounts that depict him as the wonderful man who invented Kwanzaa.”

PICTURE of the day...
a sunset photographed through a glass of some kind of liquid...

The sun came out yesterday. YIPPPEEEEEEE. And the turkeys were sitting atop the bridge out back and basking...

Here's something interesting:
(Reuters) Hands down, no word grates on Americans more than "whatever", a public opinion survey says.
The casual "whatever" was rated the most annoying word by 38% of 1,173 adults surveyed in early December by Marist College Institute for Public Opinion, based in NY. that is up from 32% a year earlier. What's more, "whatever" has topped the annoying word charts for five straight years."The word can be very dismissive and rude" said the media director for Marist. "It's a put-down to some extent and it can signal to the other person that wheat they are saying is not important." And... with apologies to Facebook, Americans also do not like the word "like", which ranked second in the survey of most annoying words at 22%. The term "you know" pulled 18%, "just sayin" 14%, and "obviously" 6%.
My personal opinion, whatever. I like that word! The ones I dislike are, "like" when a sentence is started with it. I hate it when someone says "thank you" and the response is "no problem". ALSO, a big gripe phrase is "my bad". OMG I HATE THAT!  So if you say "my bad" to me, I'm going to respond with 'whatever'. (and really surly too!)

Lunch yesterday was the leftover quinoa mixture (good hot or cold!). I put it on top of some "spring mix" lettuce and made a dressing of mayonnaise and lemon juice (one of my favorites).... OMGOOD!!!!! (filling too!)

This is what I wrote a year ago today..
I was invited to two Christmas parties for today and both canceled because Tom and Debbie and Bill and Jeannie have no power since two nights ago! Severe power outages in Josephine County with over 13,000 in the dark and the Search and Rescue has been mobilized to evacuate people who may need to go to "warming shelters" in the possibility of an extended power outage. Jen's mom Jean is also without power, but went to Brian and Jen's to spend the night.

Historically a lot of stuff happened.

I made some yummy-beyond-words pretzel/Rolo/pecan bites yesterday...
You put the pretzels on a cookie sheet, top each with a Rolo, bake 4 minutes at 250º, take out of oven and press a pecan half into each. Let cool.

Delish!

All I know. Happy Sunday. Nuff said. Ciao.

National Date Nut Bread Day is today. Enjoy a tasty bread for the holidays. It's the perfect bread for the season. It contains nuts and sugar, but is not heavy on the sugar. Date nut bread is quite popular. You can make it yourself, or buy some at the bakery. We suggest a couple of loafs. In our house, a single loaf does not last long.

"No problem". Ohhh Sue, I hate that too. Mother and I both did! When I am in a restaurant or a store and I say thank you and that is their response, I cringe! No it shouldn't be a "problem" to do their job! grrrr I too hate it when someone, especially the boys or hubby says "whatever". It is so disrespectful! Now, I think "my bad" is funny because it's knowing you did something wrong.

Oh jeeeeze I do detest the thing called "Kwanza". I have read about this man and his made up "holiday". WHY do people give it any notice???

So sorry all those folks are without power. Hey! Have those parties at your house! :)
Your pecan bites look wonderful!
Oh John's cranberry sauce tastes wonderful! Check my FB page for pics.
