Football ~ Dishwasher ~ Halloween Store ~ Kio ~ Run Fred Run!

Good 35º burrrrrr morning. Low fog. Ice on the barn roof. What else is new?

Football for tomorrow...

Yesterday was errand day. I wore my new flying witch shirt (If the broom flies .... Fly it!)
I also wore my orange black cat socks!

First stop was Ace and I ordered lumber for the raised bed garden that Martin is going to fix. Dave is going to drop it off for me today.(Thanks Dave!!!) Got a new handle to fix my toilet (it broke)... then to the cleaners to pick up my comforter, stop at Brian's office (next door) for a short visit, then to Sears where I actually bought a new dishwasher!
It will be delivered on the 6th. Then to the Halloween Store.

What a fun place! I got some spider web decals to put on the glass in the front door and some spiders. Saw Sami, Tucker, Jen, and Jean there. The best part was hugs from Sami and Tucker!

Leftovers can be good for any meal... yesterday breakfast was a rerun of the Taboli/rice mixture with eggs...

I so wish this were true....

I like to make a pie with mincemeat on the bottom and pumpkin on the top. When we'd have family gatherings at Christmas everyone wanted a piece of both pumpkin and mincemeat pie. I just shortened the theme by baking them both together. Good!!!

English recipes from the 15th, 16th, and 17th centuries describe a mixture of meat and fruit used as a pie filling. These early recipes included vinegars and wines, but by the 18th century, distilled spirits, frequently brandy, were being used instead. The use of spices like clove, nutmeg, mace and cinnamon was common in late medieval and renaissance meat dishes. The increase of sweetness from added sugars, and those produced from fermentation, made mincemeat less a savoury dinner course and helped to direct its use toward desserts.

By the mid-twentieth century the term was also used to describe a similar mixture that does not include meat, but that might include animal fat in the form of suet or butter, but could also substitute solid vegetable fats, making it vegetarian. Many recipes continue to include suet, venison, minced beef sirloin or minced heart, along with dried fruit, spices, chopped apple, and fresh citrus peel. Zante currants, candied fruits, citron, and brandy, rum, or other liquor. Mincemeat is aged to deepen flavours, activate the preserving effect of alcohol, which over time changes the overall texture of the mixture by breaking down the meat proteins. Preserved mincemeat may be stored for up to ten years.

Mincemeat can be produced at home, often using a family recipe that varies by region or ancestry. Commercial preparations, primarily without meat, packaged in jars, foil lined boxes, or tins are commonly available.

It may be the slight difference in our ages- but anything nationality-wise from my Iranian friends is Iranian- cultural issues are Persian.

I clipped this explanation on Iran- Persia labels from wikipedia-

"In the Western world, Persia (or its cognates) was historically the common name for Iran. In 1935, Reza Shah asked foreign delegates to use the term Iran (the historical name of the country, used by its native people) in formal correspondence. Since then, in the Western World, the use of the word "Iran" has become more common. This also changed the usage of the names for the Iranian nationality, and the common adjective for citizens of Iran changed from Persian to Iranian. In 1959, the government of Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, Reza Shah Pahlavi's son, announced that both "Persia" and "Iran" could officially be used interchangeably.[1] Nonetheless, the word "Iran" has replaced "Persia" in the common usage."
