Glow In The Dark Paint ~ Rooster Crow Parade ~ Debbie ~ Corn Chip Chicken Casserole

Good 56º sunny clear morning. Don't know the high, must have been around 96º yesterday. I feel for all of you in the triple digit heat areas, but it's coming here too. Hydrate hydrate hydrate AND don't take you pets in the car with you! (Thanks for finding this again Nancy!)

I shared and posted this on FB, but thought a few of you don't go there so here it is...

Buy a flower pot that you really like and use Rust-Oleum's  Glow-in-the-dark paint to paint the pot. During the day, the paint will absorb the sunlight and at night the pots will glow.
After reading the instructions on Rust-Oleum's site it says for indoor use only, but I would imagine summer time would be perfect to use it outdoors. There is some technical info that you should read before moving forward on this...
Specialty -Glow In The Dark Product Page
Rust-Oleum Specialty Glow In The Dark Paint glows for up to 2 hours and can be applied to wood, metal, plaster, masonry or unglazed ceramic. ...

Yesterday was the Rooster Crow festivities in Rogue River. The parades was at 10am.... Here is a Smilebox of the pictures I took. Nancy Perry and I went early, got our 'spot', drank iced coffee, and enjoyed people watching and talking to our friends, neighbors, and new acquaintances. Dennis Richardson, our district's House Representative, was in the parade. Dennis born and raised in the Los Angeles area, enlisted in the Army and was a decorated pilot in Viet Nam. He went to college at BYU and later earned his law degree, opening a law firm here in Central Point until his retirement in 2010. Good to see him, and I even got a hug! Pals PJ, Debbie, and PatC were in the parade with the Ruffles & Rogues Walking Society. All of the Ace/Main employees were there.. along with all the fire and police, search and rescue, and mounted detail.

After the parade Nancy and I met up with Jeannie and Bill at the VFW for a 'cocktail'. A lot of the Old Guard vets were there as well as some of the Marine Corps League honor guard, including Steve Robertson, who carried the American Flag in the parade. Nice chat time.

I found this recipe and had to try it... easy.
Corn Chip Chicken Casserole
   Serves 4
2 cups diced cooked chicken (I cooked 3 big chicken thighs in boiling chicken broth until tender)
1 cup cooked white rice (used regular rice, not instant)
1 (14.5oz) can diced tomatoes, drained
1 (4.5oz) can chopped green chilies, undrained
(I used 1 can of Rotel diced tomatoes & green chilis and 1/2 can of regular diced tomatoes)
1 (10 3/4 oz) can condensed cream of chicken soup
2 t. taco seasoning
1 cup frozen corn (I used drained canned whole kernel)
1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese, divided
1 cup Frito chips, coarsely broken (put in plastic bag and just press them down)
Preheat oven to 350º. Coat a 9x9 baking dish with cooking spray. Using a large bowl combine all the ingredients except corn chips and 1/2 cup cheese. Mix well and spoon into baking dish. Bake 30-35 min, sprinkle with remaining cheese, return to oven for 5 min, until cheese is melted.

I served mine with a dollop of sour cream on top. EXCELLENT!!!!!

Our former Temple City neighbor, Debbie (Mehl) Taylor (mom of Lindsay, Heather, and Heidi) is celebrating her birthday today.  HAPPY BIRTHDAY DEBBIE!

Outstanding!
I loved the glasses. I would LOVE to see a photo of Bill wearing a pair!

This parade reminded me of our hometown parades in Digby, Nova Scotia. Population 1,800 then, when I was a kid!
I love smile box. Been thinking about doing one. Think I will try it.
The background music is fun. Every time I hear that song, can't remember the name, reminds me of a dear friend of mine. Retired Sgt. Bill (Mac) MacComas. We worked homicide together and belonged to the same Yacht Club. Every time the music was played at a Yacht Club event Bill would do the "Funky Chicken" dance. It was funny. A bald 6' 200 pound man doing this dance. Still brings a smile to my face.
Thanks for a great blog, have a cool day. I told Jacque she cannot leave me in the car today!
