Good 38º clear but slightly hazy (from the fires in Siberia http://abcnews.go.com/International/siberian-wildfires-kill-23-displace-thousands/story?id=30302908 ) morning.

Those sunflower seeds Brian shared with me at the baseball game on Saturday I found them at www.amazon.com. Spitz is the name and I got a variety pack of the Cracked Pepper, Dill Pickle, and regular Salted. The dill pickle sounds interesting too.

I worked on the golf card yesterday to no avail. I called the company where I bought it and "Daryl" is coming out today to pick it up and take it back to their shop. Probably gonna cost me a s**t load!!! Groan......................  That and the riding lawnmower AND getting my barn painted this summer and getting the pastures brush-hogged and getting the tar weed sprayed!

How about this recipe?

Broccoli Ham Cheese Muffins

from Betty Crocker and my pal Vivia in NY

1 bag (12oz) Green Giant Steamers frozen broccoli & cheese sauce

1½ cups Original Bisquick mix

1/2 cup milk

3 T vegetable oil

1 egg

½ cup diced cooked ham

½ cup shredded sharp Cheddar cheese

Heat oven to 400º. Spray 12 regular size muffin cups with cooking spray.

Cook broccoli as directed on the bag.

In large bowl, stir together Bisquick, milk, oil, and egg. Stir in broccoli, ham, and cheese just until well mixed. Spoon mixture evenly into muffin cups.

Bake 18-22 minutes, or until golden brown. Cool 5 minutes, remove from pan, serve warm.

*Wrap and refrigerate any leftover muffins. Unwrap and reheat 1 at a time on microwavable plate 15-30 seconds.

Last night I tried watching the Country Music Awards. OMG. "Records broken for largest crowd ever to see an awards show." Held at AT&T Cowboy's Stadium with a seating capacity of 80,000!

The MCs were Blake Shelton and Luke Bryan. Neither were very good. Crowd too big. Too much noise. The MCs were shouting into their microphones! I didn't watch much!

Good 41º clear morning.

Yesterday I first went to Ace to get some fly traps.

Having an invasion in my bathroom. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr........ HATE flies!!! Then to mail a letter at the post office.

Off to Garrison Field for Tucker's baseball game. His team is the Durham Bulls:

The Durham Bulls are a Triple-A minor league baseball team that currently plays in the International League. Brian set up a tent over the stands. That was really great. We were in the shade! The umpire walked over to the fence at one point and said, "Could you move that tent over here at home plate?" He was melting!!!

Here's an easy and yummy recipe...

Pepperoni Pizza Potato Skins:

3 baking potatoes, cleaned, rubbed with olive oil, and salted evenly. Bake in 400º oven for 1 hour. Let cool. Slice in half lengthwise and scoop out filling. Place on cookie sheet and bake 4-5 minutes until crispy.

Remove from oven and spoon in some marinara sauce, top with mozzarella cheese, mini pepperoni slices, and parmesan.

Put back into oven and bake 5-7 minutes until cheese is gooey. Remove from oven and sprinkle top with chopped parsley. Serve immediately.

Save the potato filling you scooped out and mash them with butter adding in some Boursin cheese. Refrigerate or freeze for another meal. AWESOME!

A SHORT HISTORY OF GARLIC

Native to central Asia, garlic has a lengthy history dating back 6,000 years. Long a staple of Mediterranean diets, garlic was a commonly used seasoning in the cuisines of Africa, Asia and Europe. China is currently the world’s biggest producer of garlic followed by India, South Korea, Egypt and Russia.

Regarded as a force of both good and evil, the Egyptians are said to have fed the herb to workers building the Great Pyramid of Giza because they believed it boosted their stamina. In the Middle Ages, plague-phobic Europeans ate whole cloves of garlic to fight off the scourge known as the Black Death.

NATURE’S WONDER DRUG? Known as nature’s wonder drug, garlic is recognized for its wide-reaching medicinal properties, in the treatment and prevention of disease. It has been credited with extending human longevity, preventing certain cancers, lowering cholesterol levels, reversing high blood pressure, resisting the common cold and overcoming fatigue. The herb, which can also be deemed a vegetable too, is rich in protein, vitamins A, B-1 and C and contains essential minerals such as calcium, magnesium and iron. It also contains 17 different amino acids.

THE "STINKING ROSE"

Dubbed the ‘stinking rose’ because of its overpowering taste and smell, garlic is known for causing bad breath, which apparently can be neutralized by sipping milk or eating parsley.

Ironically, despite its illustrious reputation, the herb that causes garlic breath has also long been admired for its powers as an aphrodisiac. Legend has it that Tibetan monks were forbidden from entering monasteries if they had eaten garlic because of its reputation for arousing sexual desire.

Thanks to Hollywood and popular literature, we’re well aware of the myth that garlic deters vampires, but it’s also thought to protect against the evil eye and to ward off jealous nymphs said to terrorize pregnant women and engaged maidens.
