Lunch
yesterday.... cheesy tortellini in a tomato sauce on a lemony/olive oil salad
base.... Portion control and a stab at losing some weight.... Wish me luck!!!
Dinner....
Rotini and meatballs in crushed tomato sauce over lettuce with lemon/olive
oil.....
I know. Similar, but really good!!!
Favorite places we ate at in the San Gabriel Valley were in
the Clearman's Village.... The North Woods Inn, The Boat, and The Golden Cock.
(Yes, that was it's name.. .great chicken dishes.. but restaurant gone and I
can't find any photos of it. Great big golden rooster sat on a pillar in front.)

The North Woods is still in the same place. The Golden Cock
and other businesses were torn down and a Kohl's was built in their place. The
Boat was renamed The Galley and moved south of the fire station...
So all of this is leading to their food... and the BEST
salads in the world with the BEST Cheese Bread in the world. The cheese spread
is sold at the restaurant and in lots of markets but Jen decided since she loved
it and driving 800 miles to get some wasn't worth it. Besides, it contains MSG
which she doesn't want to feed her family. (She also makes her own ranch
dressing... Brian's fav... because of the same reason. AWESOME dressing.. if you
want the recipe...let me know.) For Brian's birthday dinner Jen made the cheese
spread, put it on sourdough rolls and put in the oven until
melted...
I asked and Jen generously shared her recipe... (Just for
you Dan!!!)

And then there are the Wild Texas Turkeys that were
transplanted in Oregon... who, by the way, love my yard, my pond, and me! They
talk to me!
All I know. Sun did come out for a short time today. YEAH!

is Random Acts of Kindness Day. And, you know what to do...perform a few random
acts of kindness. Almost any kind deed will do. And, we highly recommend you
perform kind acts on as many people as you can.
This
is a favorite day of many people and groups. People like the idea of showing a
little kindness to others. Its a fun and good thing to do. And, they like being
on the receiving end of this day as well. It makes both the giver and the
receiver feel good.
Schools
have used this day as an educational event, and to promote the value of
kindness. Organizations have used this day to promote their cause, and for
fundraisers.

Gloom ~ Polenta with Shrimp/Artichoke Hearts ~ WD-40 Uses ~ Almond Recipes
Good 36ยบ colder morning, but still drizzling. Supposed to have
had lots of wind and heavy rain yesterday and last night. The wind did blow a
bit, some howling out there... but nothing severe. Rain supposed to come back
Tuesday.

It was two years ago today I posted a rice cooker meal...
You can click on that if you are interested and see historically what
happened and who had birthdays. A year ago on the 15th I had to have my love, 22
year old cat Harley put to sleep, so that blog a year ago today was a tribute to
my guy...
Not too much excitement around here. Watched some of the Olympics. Some
wonderful wins and some heartbreaking losses. So .... to the kitchen to cook
something... decided on polenta after watching Jamie Oliver take pre-made
polenta, slice it and grill it, then top the polenta with a chicken/asparagus
dish.
I decided to try cooking the polenta in my rice cooker. 3 cups of water, a
pat of butter, sea salt... let rice cooker heat water til it bubbles, add in a
cup of polenta, a handful of basil, and shake in some garlic powder... then let
it cook the cycle...
Once done I sprayed a 9x9 pan with
Pam, dumped in the polenta, smoothed it out and let it sit and firm up. Then I
put some salad shrimp (product of USA!) and artichoke hearts in a pan with
butter and sauteรฉd them... adding in some Philly Cooking Sauce...
Cut the polenta and fry it in oil or butter... I like the butter ..
Plate the polenta and top with the shrimp/artichoke mixture.
OMGOOOOD!!!!

- Rust Preventative: Prevent rust on tools-pliers, adjustable wrenches. Drip a few drips and rub all over. It’ll keep your tools not only from rusting but will extend the life of the tool too,
- Wind Chimes: Use on wind chimes (metal only) to prevent rust and keep them in good shape (rusty chimes are ugly)
- Wax Remover: Drip a few drips vinyl surfaces to remove wax
- Corrosion Preventative: Use on copper to prevent corrosion and extend the life of your copper
- Leather Stain Remover: Drip a few drops on a rag and rub on your ink stain to remove it from leather
- Squeaks: Have a squeaky door that drives you crazy? Just a drop or 2 right on the hinge will cure the sounds of a rusted squeaky door
- Soften leather sandals: Rub on sandals to loosen up tight or stiff sandals to avoid blisters.
- Bathroom Silicone: Use a little to break down silicone when coating a toilet or tub
- Boats: Use a little to coat rubber ties on boats to keep rubber from drying out in the harsh sun
- Home Locks: Spray a little into key holes to lubricate and keep working (locks can rust and freeze up from harsh outside winds, rain etc
- Garage Doors: Spray on to Lubricates garage door runners to extend the life of your garage door
- Saw: Rub it onto saws to keep from rusting and extend the life of the saw
- Credit Cards: Rub a little on sticky residue from stickers on credit cards when they arrive in the mail
- Remove Paint from Windows: Removes paint from windows – just use on a rag and apply “elbow grease”
- Remove marks on Dry Erase Boards: Just use on a rag and apply “elbow grease” (even removes permanent marker)
- Mirrors: A little on a rag with removes mascara from tile floors and mirrors (be sure to wipe floor clean after using WD-40)
- Medicine Bottles: Removes labels from medicine bottles for reuse.
- Luggage: Drip a few drops on luggage zippers to lubricate well before travel
- Nail Polish Remover from Floors: Use a little on a rag and it removes nail polish from hardwood floors (be sure to wipe floor clean after using WD-40)
- Clothes Dryer: Ever had a child accidentally leave a crayon in their pocket and it melt in your dryer? Add some to a rag and it removes crayon from inside clothes dryers (make sure to unplug dryer fi rst)
- Wallpaper: Use a drop on a rag and some old fashioned “elbow grease” and wipe off crayon from your wallpaper

Good 46ยบ still raining morning. As of yesterday 4" of rain in the rain
gauge. Heard it coming down in the night...
This was early afternoon... it rained and rained after that.... this
morning it's at 4¼"... and it continues....
Dude and the Bruise were not too happy with the rain, so laid by the door
watching outside...
This is out in the back... the seasonal creek now filled with water and
rushing downhill!
Just FYI, because of all the problems I had with my computer and all the
problems Jeannie and Bill have had of late and Judy down in SoCal, I am not
going to download any attachments sent to me. So, if you have a photo to
send, put it on the email, don't send it to me as an attachment. I will just
delete the email. Thanks. Sorry.
Today are two
special birthdays.... my pretty friend Olga (wife of Jim Duran..LASD Sgt). HAPPY
BIRTHDAY O!! I hope your day is wonderful!!! ♥♥♥

Jen had dinner for Brian yesterday. We got there about 6. She had
cooked a filet roast wrapped in bacon (soooooooooooo tender!!), her special
potatoes (cut into cubes, I'll have to ask but probably drizzled with olive oil,
cooked crunchy, and then topped with a grated cheese ... Asiago?). The bread was
topped with her version of the cheese spread the North Woods Inn
(Rosemead/Huntington Dr http://clearmansrestaurants.com/northwoods/
) is famous for... cheese/butter/onion powder, garlic powder, etc... I'll get
the recipe for sure!) and toasted. Raw cut up veggies... I made some deviled
eggs (half topped with Bob's Seasoning Salt and half with bacon
salt. PERFECT dinner Jen!
Then Wonder Woman made a cheese cake to die
for...................... (notice where Tucker's eyes
are!)
Sami (the nut!) doesn't like cheesecake.... so she had strawberries dipped
in chocolate.... (drool...)
When I had first arrived Sami showed me her loose tooth...
.... and just before I left it was out! (er, chololate on her face!!!)
Fun evening. Great food. Happy Birthday Bri!!

It’s National Gumdrop Day.
Gumdrops are a chewy, brightly-colored, fruit-flavored confection, shaped
like a truncated cone and coated in granulated sugar. When they are flavored
with spices (allspice, cinnamon, clove, licorice, peppermint and wintergreen,
for example) they’re called spice drops.
Gumdrops are believed to be an American invention, but the date and the
inventor are lost to history (along with the origin of the phrase, “goody goody
