Crazy Cat Video ~ My Mom ~ Haggan Stores ~ Rosso's With The Girls ~ Worlds Oldest Feline ~ Harley ~ Buck

Good 51ยบ clear sunny morning.

Here's yesterday's update on the Stouts Fire

If you like cats... this is hilarious. Had no idea!
Bruiser laid on my arm on my desk and loved it!

My Mom was born 110 years ago today.  Margaret Mills Laney. She was the NICEST and most GENTILE woman ever! (Sure didn't take after her, did I? LOL) She was born in Cleveland Ohio in 1905 (d. 1994) to immigrant Scottish parents. Born in her aunt's home next door to Bob Hope's home.... her little cousins played with Bob Hope. Happy Birthday Mom. You are sooooooo missed every single day. I love you.
Holding me...
With Kristen and Brian.....

Breakfast yesterday was some of Harry and David's Caramel Pecan coffee. I ground the beans and just added in some sugar free vanilla coffee creamer. HEAVEN!!!
Then I had some yogurt and blueberries.....

I had posted some time ago about washing fruit with vinegar when you bring it home. Then rinse with water. I did that with the blueberries, and my how they have lasted without getting bad!

On the news last night, Haggan is closing up 27 of their stores ... 1 in Grants Pass!
Whaaaaaa?????? They took over Albertsons and now are closing? Their prices are too high. Didn't they have a clue??? We have 2 in Grants Pass, if they close 1 aren't they going to end up closing the other? They are closing the 2 in Klamath Falls. Big empty stores now. Lost jobs. Sick. Piss poor planning on someone's part!

Historically this date.....
1914 – A male servant of American architect Frank Lloyd Wright sets fire to the living quarters of the architect's Wisconsin home, Taliesin, murders seven people and burns the living quarters to the ground.
.......... he was definitely and interesting man. I love his architecture! Click on the word "Taliesin" and read the fascinating story of that home.... his second wife and her murder. His 'winter home' he built in Scottsdale AZ and called it Taliesin West. I would love to go there and see it. Some day. Scottsdale is a very neat place!

1935 – Will Rogers and Wiley Post are killed after their aircraft develops engine problems during takeoff in Barrow, Alaska.

1945 – World War II: Japan surrenders to end the war.
.... this is neat.... my Mom's birthday is on the surrender date and my birthday is on the peace treaty signing date!

1965 – The Beatles play to nearly 60,000 fans at Shea Stadium in New York City, in an event later seen as marking the birth of stadium rock.

1971 – President Richard Nixon completes the break from the gold standard by endingconvertibility of the United States dollar into gold by foreign investors.

1974 – Yuk Young-sooFirst Lady of South Korea, is killed during an apparent assassination attempt upon President of South KoreaPark Chung-hee.
..... Man oh man, can you imagine your name being "Yuk"!
"Ewwwwww, Yuk", "What?" "I think since you are little I'll call you Yukkie!" LOL

And births this date include....
1912 – Julia Child, American cook and TV personality (d. 2004)

Went into Grants Pass and stopped at Brian's office to drop off some things.. his requested goodies from Harry & David...

Then it was wine and snacks with pals Nancy, PJ, Micol, and Jennifer at Rosso's Trattoria in Grants Pass.

Our chow... (sorry, fuzzy. had my tiny camera, not the good one!) mine was a spinach artichoke pie (SOOOOO GOOD), Micol's a shrimp salad, Jennifer's an eggplant salad, and PJ had clams & linguini.
I had some of their tomato basil soup. OMGOOOOOD!!! Hearty! Going back for more of that!
Nancy didn't want "lunch" so she had tiramisu... We all had a taste... YUMMY!
Good to visit with the girls. Nice.

Then to the car wash..
Came home, sorted pictures, and was done for the day. Only 84ยบ yesterday. Beats any day over 90ยบ!! Lots of clouds out there too.... it was really beautiful. This the drive home.....

Oregon feline just named world's oldest living cat!
Meet Corduroy, the world's oldest living cat. This Oregonian just turned 26, which equals out to approximately 121 human years!
He was confirmed the world's title, a coveted spot that was previously held by Tiffany Two, who lived to be 27 years, 2 months, and 20 days.

Corduroy's owner, Ashely Reed Okura, chocks up his extreme longevity to a healthy lifestyle. "The secret has been allowing him to be a cat, hunting and getting plenty of love. Growing up on 160 acres in Oregon, I allow Corduroy to roam the ranch freely, so he always gets lots of exercise."

He is very much like my Harley, who lived to be 22 years old... Harley had shorter hair!

Last evening Mr. Buck was out in the pasture... took these through dining room window... grapevines in the way...

All I know. Happy Saturday. Nuff said. Ciao.

Dr. Rachael ~ Harry & David's ~ Table Rock Smoke ~ 7 Oaks Farm ~ Rogue River NAPA Auto Parts ~ Post Office Mural ~ Rays ~ Ruth Broadman ~ Japan's Surrender

Good 51ยบ smokey morning. UGH.

Yesterday was busy. I had a doc appointment at Black Oak Medical in Medford... Owned by Asante now but being bought by Providence. All the 20+ doctors are not happy about that and are going to stay with Asante! I will too!

This was for my annual with Dr. Rachael Orozco.
She is such a great gal. I just love her! Anyway, sitting in the lobby watching the big fish tank...These fish are all staying on this side...

because the fish (arrow) on the right is a bully and chases all the baby fish!

Dr. Rachael's nurse, Tanya, is super too. Friendly and fun. Doc checked all and said I was good, but took a blood test, so waiting for the results on that. Also a

test! Exciting, huh? While I was in the exam room waiting for the doc I heard the girls across the hall in unison say "OH NOOOOOO" then there was some scrambling noises. Hmmm... wondered what that was all about. So, when the doc was finished and we walked out of the room I asked the girls what happened.... one looked sheepish and said "I dropped a box of donuts". LOL, OMG, yes, that would cause an uproar!!!

Then I went to Harry and David's.

Edda, Diamond Bar pal, wanted some of their Rainbow Angel Hair Pasta she had bought when up here visiting ... got that.

Brian wanted some chocolate covered espresso beans and sesame sticks. Got those.

I got some Lemon Drop mix so I can have a Lemon Drop Martini!

And some of H&D's caramel pecan coffee beans and Pepper & Onion Relish...

The relish mixed with cream cheese is AMAZING!

Headed to Central Point to 7 Oaks. The smoke was so bad from all the fires that Table Rock was looking shrouded..
Cough cough cough.....

7 Oaks has the BEST corn in the world! Also got some Okra Chips (you'd love these Trish!), bell pepper chips, and mixed veggie chips.

Got one of these eggplants. Odd looking ..... only ever seen the smoothed skin kind.

Okra Chips (sooooooooooo good and crunchy!)
Mixed veggie chips....
Green pepper chips...
The huge bin of their corn was empty so they were replacing it... I got two ears before the bin was taken out...
Then a loaf of bread... made with roasted red tomatoes. OMGOOOOD!
Here are the other kinds. Love the names!

Then to Napa where I said the new gas can I got there was hard to figure out.
Paul and Rhea run the store during the week with their two loveable dogs. Mike, Paul's bro is there on the weekends. He was in LE in Ca also. Anyway, always a pleasure to do business with these folks. They helped me figure out this new (Colliefornicatia .. Ca made!) gas can. Sheeeeesh! Looks something like this one:

Weird lid you have to remove the center part of it and when you put the gas into whatever you have to press down. Odd for sure.
Letter mailed at post office...
Stop at Rays...
for more cucumbers and yogurt to make that cold cucumber soup....

Today is a special birthday, Ruth Broadman our Jackson County Republican Women's club President. HAPPY BIRTHDAY RUTH!!!! xoxo

Historically this date.... well, I put too many photos on the blog today and really don't have room. So if you want to read the historical haps and the famous birthdays go here to this blog, the same day of the month, just different year:

Anyway, yesterday was a fun day. Came home and crashed. Lightweight dinner, wine, and my chair!

All I know. Nuff said. Happy TGIF. Ciao.

August 14th
Japan Surrenders in WWII

August 14th - Japan surrenders
August 15th - Surrender announced to the world
September 2 - Ceremony and formal signing of surrender

VJ Day marks the end of WWII, and the cessation of fighting against Japan. It is called "Victory In Japan Day or "Victory Over Japan Day".

The confusion over three dates:

There is some confusion over what date is V-J Day. You can consider any (or all) of three dates as V-J Day. President Harry S. Truman caused some of this confusion........

On August 14, 1945, the Japanese government cabled to the U.S. their surrender. This is the date of most modern observances.

On August 15, 1945, news of the surrender was announced to the world. This sparked spontaneous celebrations over the final ending of World War II.

On September 2, 1945, a formal surrender ceremony was held in Tokyo Bay aboard the USS Missouri. At the time, President Truman declared September 2 to be VJ Day.

Regardless of which day you view as VJ Day, World War II was finally over.
