Weather UGH ~ Turkeys ~ Ducks Game ~ Otter ~ Peach Melba

Good 45º cloudy drizzly morning. No sun yesterday either... think that might be why my gate won't work again. The gate battery is on a solar charger that is fueled by the SUN!  

With all this gloom and drizzle the turkeys spent the whole day out sitting in the pasture!

National Peach Melba Day

Peach Melba (its original title was in French, Pêche Melba) was created in the summer of 1892 at the Savoy Hotel, London by the the great French chef Auguste Escoffier. It honored the renowned Australian soprano, Dame Nellie Melba (Escoffier also created Melba toast for her).

The dish combined two summer fruits, peaches and raspberries, with vanilla ice cream. Escoffier poached the peach and topped it with ice cream and raspberry purée. Essentially, it’s an ice cream sundae with poached peaches.

But the original Pêche Melba was a bit more elaborate. At the time, Dame Nellie was performing in Wagner’s opera, Lohengrin, at Covent Garden. She was the guest of honor at a dinner party hosted by the Duke of Orléans at the Savoy.

For the party, Escoffier displayed the dessert in a swan ice sculpture. In the opera, the knight Lohengrin arrives and departs in a boat pulled by swans. Here, the ice swan held a bed of vanilla ice cream topped with peaches and spun sugar.

Needless to say, the dessert was the talk of the town—or at least, that portion of town interested in opera and Escoffier.

In 1900, for the opening of the Carlton Hotel in London, Escoffier created an easier version of the dessert. He ditched the ice swan and topped the peaches with raspberry purée.

Rain ~ Tap Rock w/ Sami & Tucker ~ Sunday Football Playoffs ~ Sue's Crustless Quiche

Good 44º drizzling morning.

Yesterday morning I met up with Brian Jen Tucker Sami at Tap Rock for their Sunday Buffet. Gloomy all day... 

Tap Rock sits right on the Rogue River and the decor is such fun.... fishes and bears!

Sami and Tucker had waffles with whipped cream, chocolate, marshmallows (you can add any of the "condiments" ... some real healthy stuff!) I had sausage, bacon, a biscuit (soooooooo good) with gravy, eggs benny, pineapple and strawberries, scrambled eggs, and cheese blintzes. OMG. OINK OINK OINK. Oh, and also a mimosa! Good thing I don't eat there for the Sunday buffet often!

Sami and Tucker were busy drawing pictures for the two waitresses (Jessica and Jenny, I think... twins. Darling girls) Tucker drew a snowman and this is Sami's signature pigeon. She just draws it quick as a wink! So cute.

I had to take the trash to the trash can and put the can up on the road. Dude wanted a run, so off we went (he ran hard a little over a half mile... and pee'd on every single tree down and back!) I drove the golf cart. Just as we were leaving the house it started sprinkling. Good thing I didn't wait another hour, as it started coming down good! As of this morning we've gotten just over 1/4".

For dinner I decided to make that Crustless Quiche I posted yesterday ( http://oregonsue.blogspot.com/2015/01/weather-comin-animal-thieves-football.html )

Instead of just using broccoli I had a bag of Safeway Broccoli Stir-Fry (a big favorite of mine) 

It has broccoli, carrots, and snow peas. I cut up some of the broccoli and the whole bag of veggies went into boiling water along with some dehydrated chopped onion and 6 fresh sliced mushrooms for just a couple minutes to soften. Drain and cool. Whisk 5 eggs with salt, pepper, garlic powder and 1 cup milk. Add in veggies and 2 cups shredded Swiss cheese.

Put in deep dish pie pan that has been coated with cooking spray.
Oh yeah, and I chopped up about 4 stalks of celery and added in because I like that crunch!

Bake at 350º for 30 minutes. Remove from oven and sprinkle on Panko Bread crumbs...

Bake an additional 30 minutes. Let sit for 10 minutes before cutting and serving.

I had two pieces!!! This is sooooooooooooooooooo good!!! Easy. I am going to experiment with other ingredients and make more!

National Pharmacist Day is honors pharmacists, and recognizes their important role in medical care. A Pharmacist must be knowledgeable of the chemistry of all medicines. They can inform you of a drugs' side effects, and all aspects of prescription medicine. Very importantly, they understand and recognize the inter-action of drugs together...many people take numerous drugs.

National Pharmacist Day recognizes this important role. If you are in the pharmacy today, make sure to wish your pharmacist a good day.  Gifts and cards are not required.
