Yesterday the smoke left. Yippppeeee. We had clouds and it was a tad cooler than it's been...

We topped at 87º.

Interesting about large island groups....

An archipelago, sometimes called an island group or island chain, is a chain, cluster or collection of islands, or sometimes a sea containing a small number of scattered islands.
Malay Archipelago is the largest group of islands in the world, consisting of the more than 17,000 islands of Indonesia and the approximately 7,000 islands of the Philippines. The regional name “East Indies” is sometimes used as a synonym for the archipelago. New Guinea is usually arbitrarily included in the Malay Archipelago, though the Andaman and Nicobar Islands in the northwest and the Bismarck Archipelago in the east are not.

The principal islands and groups of the Republic of Indonesia include the Greater Sundas (Sumatra, Java, Borneo, and Celebes), the Lesser Sundas, the Moluccas, and western New Guinea. The main islands of the Philippines include Luzon (north), Mindanao (south), and the Visayas in between. Other political units in the archipelago are East Malaysia (Sabah and Sarawak), Brunei, and Papua New Guinea.
The archipelago extends along the Equator for more than 3,800 miles and extends for 2,200 miles in its greatest north-south dimension. Situated between the Pacific and Indian oceans, the islands of the archipelago enclose the Sulu, Celebes, Banda, Molucca, Java, Flores, and Savu seas.

Bismark Archipelago....

Grab your flip-flops and your floppy hat as we take your taste buds on a tropical adventure. And since they’re so easy to throw together, thanks to a few refrigerated and frozen shortcuts, we have a pretty good feeling that once you make these, you’ll  be saying …”No problem mon!!!"

  • 2 bell peppers, cut into 24 (1-inch) chunks
  • 1 (16-ounce) package frozen pineapple chunks, thawed and drained on paper towels, reserving 1/4 cup of chunks
  • 1 (18-ounce) package frozen jumbo coconut shrimp
  • 1 (5.3-ounce) mango yogurt
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 of a whole jalapeño, minced (optional)
  • 1 (18-ounce) package frozen white rice
  • Preheat oven to 425º. Spray a rimmed baking sheet with cooking spray.
  •
  • Alternately thread red pepper chunks, pineapple chunks, and shrimp onto 8 (12-inch) skewers, as shown, and place on baking sheet.
  •
  • Bake for 15 to 18 minutes or until shrimp are golden.
  •
  • Meanwhile, in a food processor or blender, combine reserved 1/4 cup pineapple chunks, the yogurt, salt, and jalapeño, if desired.
  • Blend until mixture is well combined; set aside.
  •
  • Heat rice according to package directions.
  •
  • Serve shrimp skewers over rice and drizzle with pineapple sauce.

Test Kitchen Tip: When we tested these, we used metal skewers. However, if you have wooden ones, no problem. Just make sure you soak them in cold water for at least 15 minutes before skewering everything on them and cooking. This will help ensure that they don’t burn.

All I know. Nuff said. Have a good Friday. Ciao.

On August 6th, National Root Beer Float Day tells us to float a scoop of vanilla ice cream in an ice-cold mug of frothy root beer. The classic beverage creates a creamy treat loved by generations!
Also known as the “Black Cow,” the root beer float got its start in Colorado in a mining camp. Frank J. Wisner of Cripple Creek, Colorado, gets the credit for inventing the “Black Cow” way back in August of 1893.
One night Wisner, owner of the Cripple Creek Cow Mountain Gold Mining Company, was staring out the window and thinking about the line of soda waters he was producing for the citizens of Cripple Creek when he came upon an idea. The full moon that night shined on the snow-capped Cow Mountain and reminded him of a scoop of vanilla ice cream. He hurried back to his bar and scooped a spoonful of ice cream into the children’s favorite flavor of soda, Myers Avenue Red Root Beer. After trying, he liked it and served it the very next day. It was an immediate hit.
Wisner named the new creation, “Black Cow Mountain” but the local children shortened the name to “Black Cow”.
Since its inception, hundreds of thousands of root beer floats have been enjoyed around the country each day.

Hallelujah , you are getting decent air again.

I did not know root beer floats were born in Cripple Creek. Then, again, I was surprised that Cripple Creek was a real location. Not just made up for a song. Found that out when we were in Colorado. Ate at quite a good German restaurant there.

Have a great day.
