Picture of the Day... then and now, Bob Barker 97

Bob Barker is a household name known for his time as the host of The Price is Right from 1972 to 2007. Before that he hosted Truth or Consequences from 1956 to 1974. Fun fact: Barker voiced the character Bob Barnacle on an episode of Spongebob Squarepants!

Interesting about Nevada

Nevada is one of the United Statesstates. Its capital is Carson City

Other big cities are Las VegasHenderson and Reno.

Nevada was originally founded in 1821 as part of the First Mexican Empire. The Mexican Empire turned into the Mexican Republic in 1823, along with Nevada. Before the arrival of Europeans, Nevada was inhabited by Native American tribes including the Shoshone, the Paiute, the Washoe, and the Mohave.

Fighting between the United States and Mexico started. They fought over what was to become the Southwestern United States and who could own this land. This was called the Mexican-American War. The war ended in an American victory in 1848. Nevada later became an American territory in 1861. It was called the "Nevada Territory". This was not all of Nevada as it is today. The eastern part of Nevada was part of "Utah Territory" and the southern part was part of "New Mexico". In 1859 in the Comstock Lodegold and silver were first discovered. This started a huge growth in mining in the state which Nevada is known for.

On October 31, 1864, now celebrated as "Nevada Day", Nevada was made the 36th state in the United States. It was given the distinct shape resembling a rectangle with a triangle. It was named Nevada meaning "snowy land" in Spanish, because it was snowy in the North. Later, on May 5, 1866, Nevada got its current borders because the Pah-Ute County in Arizona was taken as part of Nevada. It is now Clark County, Nevada. It was also agreed upon that the western part of Utah would become Eastern Nevada.

Tourism is very important to the economy of Nevada. Many people visit Las Vegas, which has many casinos and resorts. There is not as much farming as there is in some other states, because Nevada is so dry. However, mining is big in Nevada. More gold is mined in Nevada than in any other state.

From Mr. Food.. Country Chicken and Rice

It's no wonder one-pot recipes are tops on so many of our lists when it comes to dinnertime solutions. We think the best part of this recipe is that the longer it cooks the better the flavors blend.

  • 1 (3- to 3-1/2-pound) chicken, cut into 8 pieces
  • 6 cups water
  • 2 (15-ounce) cans tomato sauce
  • 1 large onion, finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 cups long- or whole-grain rice, rinsed

  1. In a large pot, bring all ingredients except rice to a boil over medium-high heat.

  2. Cover and allow to boil 35 minutes.

  3. Add rice and cook 25 to 30 minutes, or until rice is tender, no pink remains in chicken, and chicken juices run clear.

National Disability Independence Day on July 26th commemorates the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) on July 26th, 1990.
The ADA provides protection from employment discrimination as well as better access to goods, services, and communications for people with disabilities.
The day not only celebrates the anniversary of the ADA but it also serves several other purposes. First, the law first broke down barriers individuals with disabilities faced every day. It also marked a timeline of change that soon developed. Over time, common barriers such as narrow doors and small bathroom stalls became accessible to wheelchairs. Other examples include braille signs and crosswalks for the vision impaired. The changes improved mobility and safety.
Beyond structural changes, the act motivated designers to enhanced technology. Often, physical limitations restrict a person’s ability to access legal or health information. New assistive technologies make it possible to obtain the necessary information.
As accessibility improves, the world continues to change in other ways. For example, many of today’s brick and mortar businesses are ADA compliant. However, more and more businesses switch to online versions. Those websites need to meet the needs to be accessible, too.
With each advancement in technology, designers need to incorporate multi-functional approaches to fit every ability. Celebrate the freedom the ADA inspires with forward-thinking design and technology.

HOW TO OBSERVE

If you are an employer or designer, consider how accessible your business is to people with disabilities. The ADA empowers people with disabilities to stand up for their rights, too. Give shout outs to accessible businesses and organizations. On July 26th, unite with them and use #DisabilityIndependenceDay to share on social media.

NATIONAL DISABILITY INDEPENDENCE DAY HISTORY

National Disability Independence Day recognizes the anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act passed in 1990.

Good morning.

Did not expect as much rain as Mumbai got on this date in 2005, but it is pretty likely umbrellas will be out at the Getty Villa garden today.

Yup, Alexa says we are on flood watch! Kevin spent three hours rubbing out and waxing his car and now it's pouring in Riverside! :(

I was on The Price Is Right back in 1980. I won $1,000 on the Big Wheel spin and was so shocked I nearly knocked Bob Barker over. lol It was shown on Halloween morning that year.

I love the sound of the Country Chicken because it's so easy. I saved it and will make it soon.
