Interesting for football fans..... Denver Broncos....

 

The Broncos were in financial trouble from the start, beginning their inaugural year as a charter member of the AFL in 1960. Owner Bob Howsam was limited financially. He had owned a minor league baseball team called the Denver Bears and in 1958 inquired about an NFL team but was told expansion was years away.

When he bought the AFL franchise, Howsam made every short-cut he could possibly make. He purchased used uniforms from the extinct Copper Bowl. One part of the uniforms were vertical striped socks, which has become one of the team’s most memorable early-year attributes.

In 1963 the team hired Jack Faulkner as head coach. His first decision was to change the team colors from brown and gold to today’s orange, blue and white. The second order of business was a public sock burning ceremony. Faulkner did keep two pairs, for whatever reason, and today one pair an be viewed at the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

The Broncos competed in the first-ever AFL game and came away with a 13-10 victory over the Patriots. In 1967, they became the first AFL team to defeat an NFL team in a pre-season game.

In 1965, the club came close to relocating to Atlanta, but a local ownership group headed by Gerald and Allan Phipps put together a package and kept the team in Denver. Fan support subsequently increased from 7,993 season ticket holders to almost 23,000.

A “name-the-team” contest was held in 1960. "Broncos" were the most submitted partly because of the popularity of a minor league baseball team in the 1920s of the same name.

The franchise has won two NFL titles, both Super Bowls.

Let these bad boys marinate during the day for a scrumptious chicken dinner later that night! These Glazed Roasted Chicken Thighs are our new favorite weeknight dinner. Juicy chicken thighs, covered in a sweet and tangy sauce that's sure to make everyone around the table smile.

 

• 1/2 cup teriyaki sauce
• 1/4 cup frozen orange juice concentrate, thawed, undiluted
• 3 tablespoons sesame oil
• 4 cloves garlic, minced
• 1 teaspoon salt
• 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
• 8 chicken thighs

 

1. In a medium bowl, combine all ingredients except chicken; reserve half of the teriyaki mixture, cover and refrigerate until ready to use. 
2. Place chicken in a large resealable plastic bag, and pour remaining teriyaki mixture over chicken. Seal bag and marinate in refrigerator at least 2 hours, turning occasionally. (See Tip.)
3. Preheat oven to 425º. Cover a 10- x 15-inch rimmed baking sheet with aluminum foil. Remove chicken from marinade, discarding marinade. Place chicken, skin side up, on baking sheet.
4. Bake 30 minutes, remove chicken from oven and brush with reserved teriyaki mixture. Bake 15 to 20 more minutes or until chicken is no longer pink in center.

 

Tip

Let these chicken thighs marinate while you're at work, then pop them in the oven to bake when you get home. Dinner is served! Cleanup's a breeze too, when you line the baking sheet with aluminum foil.

National Lineman Appreciation Day on April 18th honors the men and women who work around the clock to keep the power going.  If the power is on where you are reading this article, you likely have a lineman to thank.

From the power plant, the grid crisscrossing the country both above and underground and right up to the meters on our homes, these men and women build and maintain the system that keeps our nation running.

Regardless of the source, the electricity has to be transported by employing transformers and other equipment. Due to the dangerous conditions power poses, safety is of utmost importance for both the lineman and the consumer.

When mother nature destroys what our linemen have built up, they are on call to build it back up again as quickly as possible. These men and women work tirelessly to get emergency systems back in working order and urgently return service to remaining areas.

Even when there is no crisis, they work under dangerous conditions on a daily basis. Whether they are working in trenches, near water or on high towers, the risks are extreme.

On April 10, 2013, U.S. Senate Resolution 95 recognized linemen across the country by setting April 18th as National Lineman Appreciation Day.
