Weather ~ Picture of the Day ~ Heaviest Human ~ Frontier Chicken and Noodle Casserole ~ Alex Corsaro ~ National Tortellini Day

Good 39º it POURED rain last night morning.

Yesterday we topped at 48º.

Picture of the Day... a super skinny apartment building in Japan...YIKES!

Interesting about the heaviest human....

Jon Brower Minnoch (September 29, 1941 – September 10, 1983) was an American man who, at his peak weight, was the heaviest human being ever recorded, weighing 1,400 lbs.

At the age of 12, Minnoch weighed 294 lbs with an estimated height of 5 ft 7 inches and by age 22 he was 6 ft 1 inches in height and weighed 500 lbs.  At his heaviest, he was frequently referred to as 'the thickest man in the land.

Minnoch's weight continued to increase steadily until his hospitalization in March 1978 at age 36 due to cardiac and respiratory failure. That same year, he broke a record for the greatest difference in weight between a married couple when he married his 110-lb  wife Jeannette and later fathered two children. Minnoch was diagnosed with massive generalized edema, a condition in which the body accumulates excess extracellular fluid. Upon his hospital admission, it was estimated by endocrinologist Robert Schwartz that over 900 lbs of his overall body mass was retained fluid.

Jon was discharged from the hospital after 16 months on a strict diet of 1,200 cal per day. He weighed 476 lbs, having lost approximately 924 lbs, the second largest human weight loss ever documented. However, he was readmitted to the hospital just over a year later in October 1981, after his weight increased to 952 lbs. With his underlying condition of edema being incurable and difficult to treat, the decision was made to discontinue treatment, and he died 23 months later on September 10, 1983, aged 41. At the time of his death, he weighed 798 lbs with a Body Mass Index of 105.3.

From Mr. Food

We don't know if Davy Crockett had meals like this, but we're sure he'd have loved it, and your family will, too. Frontier Chicken & Noodle Casserole is robust and delicious, and the simplest dinner you could imagine

  • 1 pound cooked boneless, skinless chicken breast halves, cubed
  • 2 celery stalks, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 cups cooked fine egg noodles
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 (10.25-ounce) can cream of chicken soup
  • 1 cup crushed potato chips

  1. Preheat oven to 350º. Coat a 2-quart casserole dish with cooking spray.

  2. In a large bowl, combine all ingredients except potato chips; mix well. Spoon mixture into prepared casserole dish and top with crushed chips.

  3. Bake 30 to 35 minutes, or until golden and heated through.

All I know. Nuff said. Have a good Saturday. Ciao.

Pasta lovers will enjoy a traditional stuffed pasta during National Tortellini Day on February 13th!
Tortellini is a signature dish from the Italian region of Bologna, where they claim to have created this stuffed pasta packed with flavor. Ravioli, tortellini, and tortellacci are all part of the same family of stuffed pasta. The most common fillings for tortellini are ham, white meat, and Parmesan cheese.
Members of an organization called The Learned Order of the Tortellini in the city of Bologna wear special hats to their meetings that are red and gold and shaped like tortellini. They also wear a ribbon, around their neck that has a gold tortellini hanging on it.  The Learned Order of the Tortellini has a large membership dedicated to the preservation of the traditional tortellini.
There are many ways to prepare a tortellini dish.  You may want to top it with a cheese sauce, cream sauce, pesto or tomato sauce, or follow one of the thousands of cooking blogs available for a great tortellini recipe.
