Fog/Sun ~ Geese ~ Number of Veterans in USA ~ Picture of the Day ~ Honolulu Hawaii ~ Sensational Sausage Stuffing ~ National Pizza with the Works Except Anchovies Day

Good foggy frozen 27º morning.

Our weather yesterday started foggy and dark and covered my mountain....

The fog left and we got pretty clouds and sun...

We ended up with quite a cloudy day and topped at 61º.

I heard a bunch of honking.... and look who showed up.... munching in the grass and sitting on the barn roof!!!

Yesterday was Veterans Day and I found this information:
There are 17.4 million veterans in the United States, according to data from the Department of Veterans Affairs. Half of those veterans were 65 or older, and the vast majority served during the Vietnam War. Veterans comprise approximately 6.9% of the nation’s adult population according to the Census Bureau. With the overall size of the military declining and older veterans passing away, the number of people identifying as veterans has steadily declined for the past two decades. Fewer than 500,000 World War II veterans were alive in 2018, down from 5.7 million in 2000. To all of those who have served, thank you for your service!

Picture of the Day .... OMGOSH! A tree, really???

Interesting about the capital of Hawaii....

Honolulu is the capital city of the U.S. state of Hawaii. It is also the largest city in Hawaii and it has the most important harbor. It is on the south-east shore of the island of Oahu.

Honolulu means "sheltered harbor" in the Hawaiian language. No one knows for sure when Honolulu was first settled or when the name was first used.

Honolulu harbor was called Kulolia before foreigners came. The first foreigner was Captain William Brown of the English ship Butterworth, in 1794. He named the harbor Fair Haven. Other foreign captains is started calling it Brown's Harbor. The name Honolulu was used some time after that.

Honolulu quickly became the most important harbor of Hawaii. At that time, sandalwood was a big export. Honolulu was also an important supply point for whalers.

Kamehameha III made Honolulu the capital city of the Kingdom of Hawaii in 1850. It was also the capital of the Republic of Hawaii and the Territory of Hawaii. It stayed the capital when Hawaii became a state in 1959.

National Pizza with the Works Except Anchovies Day says to hold the fishes! Anchovy lovers move over on November 12th. All the other pizza lovers get their due and pile on their toppings. This annual pizza holiday gets the spotlight with olives, pepperoni, sausage, peppers, and onions. How about mushrooms, bacon, or pineapple? Approved! Just no fishy business on this national day, or no pizza for you!
Classified as an oily fish, Anchovies are a family of small, common salt-water forage fish. There are 144 species found in the Atlantic, Indian, and Pacific Oceans.  Anchovies are small, green fish. They have blue reflections caused by the silver longitudinal stripe, which begins at the base of the caudal fin.
Traditionally, anchovies are processed in a salt brine and then packed in oil or salt, resulting in a strong, characteristic flavor.  Optionally they may be pickled in vinegar, giving the anchovies a milder taste.
Pizza:
  • In ancient Greece, the Greeks covered their bread with oils, herbs, and cheese. Some believe this practice is the beginning of the pizza.
  • In Byzantine Greek, the word was spelled “πίτα,” pita, meaning pie.
  • The Romans developed a sheet of dough topped with cheese and honey. They then flavored it with bay leaves.
  • The modern pizza began in Italy as the Neapolitan flatbread.
  • The original pizza used only mozzarella cheese. The mozzarella was produce in Naples and usually the highest quality buffalo mozzarella variant.
  • In 1997, the United States produced an estimated 2 billion pounds of pizza cheese annually.
  • The first United States pizza establishment opened in 1905 was in New York’s Little Italy.
  • Americans love pizza. So much so, it’s one of our favorite meals.

Anchovies are those sneaky fish which undoubtedly make it to make plate because I am unaware and would otherwise refuse the dish.

One of his last trips to Europe Anne Hathaway was Gerry's seat mate. He was not a celebrity gawker- but he did enjoy the flight more than usual.

Godspeed to you for posting.
