Interesting about McDonalds...

In 1917, 15-year-old Ray Kroc lied about his age to join the Red Cross as an ambulance driver, but the war ended before he completed his training. He then worked as a piano player, a paper cup salesman and a Multimixer salesman.

In 1954, he visited a restaurant in San Bernardino, California that had purchased several Multimixers. There he found a small but successful restaurant run by brothers Dick and Mac McDonald, and was stunned by the effectiveness of their operation. The McDonald’s brothers produced a limited menu, concentrating on just a few items – burgers, fries and beverages – which allowed them to focus on quality and quick service.

They were looking for a new franchising agent and Kroc saw an opportunity. In 1955, he founded McDonald’s System, Inc., a predecessor of the McDonald’s Corporation, and six years later bought the exclusive rights to the McDonald’s name and operating system. By 1958, McDonald’s had sold its 100 millionth hamburger.

It is estimated that McDonald’s serve approximately 69 million customers every single day. This is more than the entire population of France, which is around 66 million people. This means that they sell 75 hamburgers every single second and more than 5 billion burgers annually. To achieve such sales, they require herds of cows totaling 25 million cows.

It is estimated that one in every eight people living in the United States has been hired by McDonald’s at some point in their life. It therefore isn’t surprising that many celebrities have worked at McDonald's before becoming famous.  Some of the celebrities who worked there include Jay Leno, Pink, Rachel McAdams, and Shania Twain. During a “60 Minutes” special, Jay Leno entertained viewers by showing off his McDonald’s burger-flipping skills.

McDonald’s is famous for including a toy with every purchase of a child’s Happy Meal, which allows them to distribute more than 1.5 billion toys across the world each year. This is more than either Hasbro or Mattel, two of the leading toy companies in the world. In recent years, McDonald’s has often included small books with the Happy Meals instead of a toy to encourage children to read. This has led them to distribute more books to children than the world’s largest library, The Library of Congress. A toy or book is included in around 15% of sales at McDonald’s.

National Frappe Day on October 7th honors a versatile drink with numerous combinations, so there are flavors to suit everyone. Frappes typically are blended drinks made with either coffee or espresso and topped with whipped cream.
.
A Frappe may also refer to.
  • Frappe coffee – a blended coffee beverage
  • A frozen fruit-flavored dessert made with shaved ice
  • A milkshake
  • Any blended frozen beverage, including a more savory drink made with clam juice

Recipes for coffee frappes can be found in the late 1890s. These blended beverages refreshed and delighted. Adding cream gave the beverages a smoother texture. Even a blended, frozen tea on a warm day took on a whole new flavor.

HOW TO OBSERVE

If you missed National Coffee Day, make up for it with this celebration. Stop by your favorite coffee shop and enjoy a Frappe with a friend. Or, enjoy one of the recipes below.
