Weather ~ Picture of the Day ~ LA Dodgers/Tampa Bay Rays ~ All-in-One Sausage Dinner ~ Jim & Mel Plumbridge ~ Kio Ebrahimzadeh ~ National Pumpkin Day

Good 24º morning. Burrrrrr.........

Yesterday we started off clear, cold (30º), and sunny....

Well, 30º is cold, but my friends Pat and Alice in Northern Idaho had snow and it was 9º!!

Later in the day we warmed to 71º.

Picture of the Day .... Hmmmm........ must be at the California border! 😆

Interesting about LA Dodgers and Tampa Bay Rays names....

The Dodgers trace their roots to Brooklyn, where the team was known as the Bridegrooms, Superbas, and, beginning in 1911, the Trolley Dodgers. The Dodgers nickname referenced the pedestrians who dodged the trolleys that carried passengers through the streets of Brooklyn. While the team was known as the Robins from 1914 to 1931, in honor of legendary manager Wilbert Robinson, the nickname switched back to Dodgers when Robinson retired. When Walter O'Malley moved the franchise to Los Angeles after the 1957 season, he elected to keep the name.

Vince Naimoli, owner of Tampa Bay's expansion team, chose Devil Rays out of more than 7,000 suggestions submitted by the public in 1995. The reaction was not positive. "So far, I've fielded about 20 phone calls protesting Devil Rays, and most of the callers have described themselves as Christians who are upset about the word devil, a Tampa Tribune columnist told a reporter less than a week after the nickname was announced. Naimoli reportedly wanted to nickname his team the Sting Rays, but it was trademarked by a team in the Hawaiian Winter League. The team dropped the "Devil" after the 2007 season and the curse that had plagued the franchise for the previous decade was apparently lifted, as Tampa Bay made a surprising run to the World Series the following season.

Yesterday was game #5 of the World Series and the Dodgers were awesome, beating the Rays 4-2!!

Here's an all-in-one skillet meal that your family is sure to love! Our All-in-One Sausage Dinner is made with your favorite Italian sausage, along with some veggies, and yummy egg noodles. Everything cooks together in a homemade sour cream sauce for extra-goodness. And it only takes about 30 minutes!

  • 1 pound hot or sweet Italian sausage, crumbled
  • 1 cup chopped onion
  • 1 cup chopped green bell pepper
  • 1 (14-ounce) can diced tomatoes
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 pound narrow or medium egg noodles

  1. In a large skillet over medium heat, combine sausage, onion, and green pepper. Cook until sausage is browned and onion is tender; drain off pan drippings.

  2. Meanwhile, in a medium bowl, combine tomatoes, sour cream, water, sugar, chili powder, and salt; mix well. Stir tomato mixture and noodles into skillet.

  3. Cover and simmer 15 to 20 minutes or until noodles are tender, stirring occasionally.

National Pumpkin Day recognizes a favored autumn decoration and food on October 26th. Pumpkin is used in a variety of recipes, competitions, and festivals.
By October 26th, we’re in a frenzy of pumpkin obsession. We cannot wait for the big November holiday for pumpkin pie.  No siree, we need pumpkin everything! Bars, cookies, coffee, cheesecake, pasta, and oatmeal.  Pumpkin Chunkin’, pumpkin patches, festivals, bake-offs, and television specials. Let’s not forget jack-o-lantern carving, too! This fruit grabs American’s attention.
As it should be. This squash is native to North America. The oldest evidence of pumpkin-related seeds dates back to somewhere between 7000 and 5500 BC to seeds found in Mexico.
The word pumpkin originates from the word pepon, which means “large melon” in Greek.
Within recent years, white pumpkins have become more popular in the United States. The United States produces 1.5 billion pounds of pumpkins, with Illinois producing more than any other state.
A 2,145-pound pumping from Streator, Illinois holds the current North American record. Grown by Gene McMullen in 2015, the great pumpkin weighed in a few hundred pounds lighter than the current world record pumpkin from 2014.  At 2,323-pounds, the giant pumpkin from Switzerland retains the world record prize.
Canned pumpkin may be recommended by veterinarians as a dietary supplement for dogs and cats that are experiencing certain digestive ailments.
Raw pumpkin can be fed to poultry as a supplement to their regular feed during the winter months to help maintain egg production.

HOW TO OBSERVE

Share your pumpkin patch pictures. Carve a jack-o-lantern. Roast some pumpkin seeds. While you’re at it, bake up something tasty! As always, invite someone to Celebrate Every Day® with you, too.
On National Pumpkin Day enjoy the following pumpkin recipes:

God mondag- Time to practice my Danish- its been so long since my lesson- so much is lost.

I've enjoyed this series. Whichever team prevails- the sport is winning.

Your casserole look interesting. If I can't device on red or white sauce- tomatoes and sour cream could be a happy compromise.
