Frozen ~ Tucker's Swim Meet ~ Picture of the Day ~ President Theodore Roosevelt ~ All In One Breakfast ~ Presidents Day

Good 29º high fog everything is frozen morning.

This past weekend my grandson Tucker and his Grants Pass High School Swim Team were in a competition in Eugene.

Tucker is 3rd from top....

This was a "District Swim Meet" and their team won.

Picture of the Day ... LOL

Interesting about President Theodore Roosevelt...

Theodore Roosevelt's mother and wife died only hours apart on Valentine's Day in 1884. Each loss was an unexpected shock. His 48-year-old mother, Martha "Mittie" Roosevelt, had been taken ill and succumbed to typhoid fever. On the same day, his wife of four years, Alice Lee, died of Bright’s disease, a severe kidney ailment. Only two days before her death, Alice Lee had given birth to the couple’s daughter, Alice. In his diary, Roosevelt marked Valentine's Day 1884 with a black “X” and wrote, "The light has gone out of my life."
Theodore and Alice....   he was only 28 years old....

The president and first lady might as well be American royalty, and Teddy Roosevelt's lovely first wife, Alice, was responsible for her own unique brand of nuptial perfumery. Instead of a wedding fragrance, though, her famed scent came from a honeymoon.
While she and Teddy were making their way across Europe on a grand romantic tour, Alice became enchanted by the headily scented Bulgarian roses she encountered, and asked the Creed perfume house to create a special honeymoon fragrance from them. The result was Creed's Fleur de Thé Rose Bulgare ($365), which is still sold today.

Getting a great start on your morning is as easy as making our All In One Breakfast! We've loaded this dish with potatoes, veggies, and eggs, and nestled them together in a creamy, buttery blanket that we like to sprinkle some cheese over. So, breakfast anyone?

  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • 3/4 cup chopped onions
  • 1/2 cup chopped red or green bell pepper
  • 2 boiled or baked potatoes, peeled and sliced
  • 6 eggs
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/3 cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional)

  1. In a large skillet over medium heat, melt butter. Add onions and peppers and saute about 5 minutes, or until onions are softened. Add potatoes and saute about 10 minutes, or until mixture starts to brown.

  2. Meanwhile, in a medium bowl, beat eggs with milk, salt, and pepper. Pour egg mixture into skillet and sprinkle with Parmesan cheese, if desired. Stir gently 8 to 10 minutes, or until eggs are set but not dry. Serve immediately.

All I know. Nuff said. Happy Monday. Ciao.
xo Sue Mom Bobo

On the third Monday in February, the United States celebrates the federal holiday known as Presidents Day. The day takes place during the birth month of the country’s two most prominent presidents, George Washington and Abraham Lincoln. While the day once only honored President George Washington on his birthday, February 22nd, the day now never lands on a single president’s birthday.
Across the country, most Americans know the day as Presidents Day. More and more of the population celebrates the day to honor all of the past United States Presidents who have served the country. Throughout the country, organizations and communities celebrate the day with public ceremonies.

HOW TO OBSERVE

Some businesses close, including banks and federal buildings. Celebrate your favorite U.S. president. Here are some ways to participate:
  • Watch a documentary about the POTUS. For example, The Presidents by the History Channel.
  • See if you can name all the presidents in order.
Challenge yourself to some presidential trivia:
  1. Who are the three presidents who served in 1841?
  2. Forty years later, this same phenomenon occurred again in 1881. Name the three presidents who served that year.
  3. Name the three presidents who died on July 4th.
  4. Who were the four presidents who were assassinated while in office?

PRESIDENTS DAY HISTORY

The origin of Presidents Day lay in the 1880s when the birthday of George Washington was celebrated as a federal holiday. In 1968, Congress passed the Uniform Monday Holiday Bill. The bill moved several federal holidays to Mondays creating three-day weekends. During the debate on the bill, one proposal suggested George Washington’s birthday be renamed Presidents Day to honor the birthdays of both George Washington and Abraham Lincoln. Washington’s birthday is February 22nd and Lincoln’s birthday is February 12th. Although Abraham Lincoln’s birthday was celebrated in many states, it was never an official federal holiday. Following much discussion, Congress rejected the name change.
Despite the rejection, soon after the bill went into effect in 1971, and the observance of Washington’s birthday shifted to the third Monday in February, gradually Presidents Day became the commonly accepted name. Over time, the observance came to be known to many as a day to honor both Washington and Lincoln. However, today another shift has occurred and many see the day as a celebration of all the U.S. Presidents.

Congratulations to Tucker! I hope that water was warm! :) John, III's lady friend has a daughter who is a high school senior. She's in water polo and has to be at school early in the morning. She says the water is cold! OMG! You have to be very dedicated to jump into cold water on these cold mornings!

Sad about Teddy Roosevelt's mother and wife. Also sad about Zina Bethune dying by helping a wounded animal. Tragic!
