Weather ~ Picture of the Day ~ Turtles and Tortoises ~ Broccoli Pasta Noodle Ring ~ National Noodle Ring Day

Good 39º dark foggy cloudy morning.

The dark clouds hung around yesterday and we stayed in the 30ºs until before noon.

Rain started in the early afternoon and we topped at 42º.

Picture of the Day ... LOL. Cheers!

Interesting about Turtles and Tortoises .....
Tortoises and turtles are both reptiles from the order of Testudines, but in different classification families. The major difference between the two is that tortoises dwell on land, while turtles live in the water some or nearly all of the time.
The bodies of tortoises and turtles are both shielded by a shell, the upper part of which is called carapace, with the lower portion called a plastron. The carapace and the plastron are attached by a bridge, which means that though the head and limbs of a turtle or tortoise may be withdrawn from the shell, the whole body can never be totally detached from it. These reptiles are generally reclusive and shy in nature.

Turtles live some or most of the time in the water, while tortoises live on land. Both turtles and tortoises lay eggs on the ground. The mother will dig a burrow and lay two to twelve eggs there. The future hatchlings will stay inside the egg for 90 to 120 days, incubating on their own. Once the incubation process is complete, they dig their way to the surface. Tortoise mothers provide protection to the hatchlings for about 80 days, after which they survive on their own, but turtle hatchlings are on their own from birth.

We had a couple tortoises when we lived in Temple City. They'd do this mating thing....

and the male would breath hard and so loud we could hear him!!! LOL.

National Noodle Ring Day on December 11th recognizes recipes made with pasta into a delicious round casserole. While baking up your favorite recipe, maybe use round pasta noodles to really punctuate the ring in the day.
While the day could possibly be about the little round pasta noodles, it would be a fun way to celebrate. They make up a delicious pasta salad or several other pasta dishes. They also are popular with kids (of all ages) to use in different craft projects, maybe even one that results in a beautiful snowflake for the holidays.
However, the day celebrates the pasta dish formed in an 8 or 9-inch ring mold or bundt pan. Usually made from noodles, flour, breadcrumbs, cheese, eggs, and other seasonings, this dish is quite versatile. When baked, recipes call for the noodle ring to be removed from the mold and served on a plate giving it an elegant appearance.

HOW TO OBSERVE

Test your skills by making a noodle ring. Invite family and friends over for a taste-testing. We’re sure they will enjoy it. We provide a few different recipes to use:
