Gloom/Sunshine ~ Picture of the Day ~ Earthworms ~ Cheesy Hot Crab Dip ~ Steve Geon ~ National Baklava Day

Good 35º some fog and scattered clouds morning.

Yesterday the gloom continued to be depressing. Need sunshine!!! And now rain predicted again for Monday night. We'll see.....

Yeah, by noon we finally got some sunshine! We topped for the day at 72º.

Picture of the Day ....

Interesting about earthworms.....

Like humans, most animals have a single heart. However, earthworms don't have just one heart, they have FIVE! The earthworm’s five hearts are segmented and pump blood throughout its body. These hearts pump blood into the dorsal and ventral blood vessels of the earthworm, which delivers nutrients and oxygen throughout their body. The dorsal blood vessels carry blood to the front of the earthworm’s body while the ventral blood vessels are responsible for carrying blood to the back or tail of the earthworm’s body.
For a football game snack or prior to Thanksgiving dinner....

Cheesy Hot Crab Dip.....

  • 12 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup (1/2 pint) sour cream
  • 1/4 cups shredded Cheddar cheese, divided
  • 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon seafood seasoning
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon prepared mustard
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • Garlic powder to taste
  • 1 pound canned crabmeat

  1. Preheat oven to 375º. Coat a 1-1/2-quart casserole dish with cooking spray.

  2. In a large bowl, mix together all ingredients except crabmeat and 1/4 cup Cheddar cheese. Fold in crabmeat. Transfer mixture to prepared casserole dish.

  3. Bake 20 minutes. Sprinkle top with remaining 1/4 cup cheese and bake 5 more minutes.

****Serve with an assortment of crackers. You can use imitation crabmeat instead of the canned, and any mellow cheese instead of the Cheddar. Experiment and use whatever works best for you!

Each year on November 17th, National Baklava Day fills the kitchen with a sweet and flaky pastry that’s loved by many. Baklava is a sweet dessert that gives layers of texture and flavor between sheets of filo pastry filled with chopped nuts and drizzled with syrup or honey.
Believed to have originated by the Turkic people in Central Asian nations, Baklava is a dessert in many countries and prepared in several ways.  The word “Baklava” first appeared in English in 1650.
If you’ve never tried baklava, there are several varieties. Walnuts, pecans, pistachios, or almonds can be used. The filling can be composed of raisins, dates, prunes and even figs. Most baklava recipes call for cinnamon, cardamom, or cloves – sometimes all three spices.
Preparing this dessert may be somewhat time-consuming. However, it is a treat worth the work and the wait.

GOOD morning! LOVE the joke.

A friend who lived her early married years in Iran taught me to bake Baklava. Absolutely amazing when served from a small, fresh batch. My neighbor said it was the best thing she ever ate.
