Good 52º low lying clouds morning....
Our weather cleared up and we had blue sky. The clouds finally all left and we heated to 86º. Nice!!!
Yesterday was fun-filled! Went to Costco. Yippeeee.....
Amazing, only in the store a half hour! Didn't even have a line at the cash register to wait in!
Picture of the Day ... another fun/odd mailbox!
Interesting.... you'd think our professional football players would be the ones!!
Forbes has released the 2019 edition of its world’s highest-paid athletes list, with the top 10 competitors coming from the sports of football, boxing, tennis, American football and basketball. Despite being in a league with no salary cap, no major league baseball player is on this list. Topping this year’s list is soccer star Lionel Messi with a total of $127 million in annual earnings. Lionel Messi is one of the most well-known athletes in the entire world. He is the all-time leading scorer in the history of La Liga, Spain's storied professional football league.
From Mr. Food... Asian Cabbage Salad...
In the mood for something crunchy, full of flavor, and a real crowd-pleaser? With these great Asian tastes, we've made it our own all-American-easy.
- 2 tablespoons peanut oil
- 1/2 cup sesame seeds
- 4 medium-sized garlic cloves, minced
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1/4 cup white vinegar
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 3/4 cup vegetable oil
- 1 head Napa or Chinese cabbage, washed and cut into bite-sized pieces
- In a medium-sized saucepan, heat the peanut oil over medium heat. Sauté the sesame seed and garlic for 3 to 5 minutes, until the seeds are golden brown. Add the soy sauce, vinegar, sugar, and vegetable oil and continue to cook over medium-low heat for 2 more minutes.
- Place the cabbage in a large bowl and pour the desired amount of warm dressing over it (enough to coat the cabbage evenly).
Makes 2 cups.
Refrigerate any remaining dressing for up to 1 month. Just reheat before adding to more cabbage.
And as you can see by the picture, some sliced up chicken was added.
Special birthday today, Cliff Kuehl is celebrating #88! HAPPY BIRTHDAY CLIFFIE! xo
Four days ago it was his wife, Patty's, birthday....
And 6 years ago today I lost my Maggie dog. She was the SWEETEST dog ever! She is so missed. She was a Scottish McNab and since she had red hair and was Scottish like my mom, Margaret, is the reason I named her Maggie.
^with my granddaughter Alex, who is now 22!

On August 23rd, enjoy National Sponge Cake Day with the quintessential classic of the cake world. This airy queen of teas is the guest of honor, but we get the pleasure of tasting!
One of the trickiest cakes for bakers to master, a perfect sponge stands tall. Another balancing trick for bakers includes maintaining a fine crumb while keeping the cake moist. If you enjoy layering berries and whipped cream, the sponge handles this task beautifully.
The sponge cake is believed to be one of the first non-yeasted cakes.
The sponge cake is thought to have originated in the Caribbean. However, the earliest English printed recipe for sponge cake comes from an English poet and author, Gervase Markham. In 1615 he published a sponge cake recipe in the book The English Huswife, Containing the Inward and Outward Virtues Which Ought to Be in a Complete Woman.

I LOVE sponge cake, and the recipe for the salad sounds easy enough. You are right, the story of Kampusch is intriguing and suspicious at the same time. The photo of your dog Maggie are sweet as are the reasons for her name.

Thanks, Rosemary!!
mmmmm Love the sound of that salad but it will have to wait as I don't have all the ingredients.
Can't stand lib Springfield! Doesn't surprise me that he was driving drunk! Adam Henry!!!
When I saw it was your friend Cliff's birthday I thought my goodness it was just his wife, Patty's birthday. I scanned down a bit and sure enough. Happy birthday to them both. I know how much you must missed them after they moved away. I know how that feels as many of my friends have or are in the process of leaving California! :(
I have never heard of that Spanish "Football" player. You know that has to be soccer because the rest of the world calls it football. It always amazes me out of all the hard working and highly educated people in the world, it's the guys who play a game who are the highest paid!

oops! Forgot to tell you. I copied the picture of that hilarious computer mailbox. I am sending it to Kevin. :) Adorable! Well everyone that you have posted is a hoot!

GOOD evening. So nice to have time to read every word of your blog with the attention deserving of such care in putting together.
I believe the professional soccer season in most countries is way longer than our football seasons. With less competition to divide the audience attention- this translates into more dollars available for player salaries.
Love. Love. Love Asian salad. I am picking up some Napa cabbage to enjoy your recipe.
Not too many years ago, Barbara Eden was enjoying the same restaurant as we were. She certainly aged gracefully.
Have a GOOD rest of the weekend.
Thank you Trish and Lydia... and yes, that salad sounds yummy! Soccer is certainly not as fun as our football. Soccer to me is boring. Ah well, that's good for Europe and what they love. Everyone have a good weekend! xoxo
