Good 54º clear sunny morning. 

 

Yesterday our sky stayed clear and blue and we topped at 100º. Probably the same today.

 

Yesterday I got my Schwans order.....

Roast Turkey and Vegetables w/ Gravy ..

 

Sweet and Sour Chicken with Rice ..

 

Ham and Cheese Omelets ..

 

Family-Size Vegetable Alfredo Lasagna .. OMGOSH, I love this! One family-size is good for 4 servings.

Interesting about the world's longest bridge....

 

 

The world's longest bridge is the Danyang–Kunshan Grand Bridge in China, part of the Beijing-Shanghai High-Speed Railway. The bridge, which opened in June 2011, spans 102.4 miles . Another part of that train line, the 70.8-mile long Langfang–Qingxian viaduct, is the second longest bridge in the world.

China constructed the Danyang–Kunshan Grand Bridge in just 4 years, employing 10,000 workers, at a cost of about $8.5 million. It crosses low rice paddies, part of the Yangtze River Delta, with just a few miles of the bridge actually crossing the open water of Yangcheng Lake in Suzhou. The bridge averages about 100 feet  off the ground.

 

 

 

Now this is an interesting recipe... Zucchini Hot Dogs.

 

 

Zucchini hot dogs are tasty and funny dinner for the kids or you can serve this amazing party food for guests.

The ingredients are almost the same as the traditional hot dogs, just instead of hot dog bun we used zucchini. It’s healthier than the original hot dogs, but are delicious like on the street. :)

Before filling the zucchini boats with the hot dog frankfurter, cook the zucchini to be softer. Spread the ketchup and mustard on the cooked boats, place the frankfurters and throw them in the oven.

Bake the hot dogs in the oven for 20 minutes.  The whole family will love this delicious and funny zucchini hot dogs.

• 8 small zucchini
• 8 hot dog frankfurters
• 8 teaspoons Dijon mustard
• 8 tablespoons ketchup
• 8 cheese slices
• 150 g grated cheese
• 1 tablespoon oil
• salt
• pepper

 

1. Cut both of the edges of the washed zucchini, peel them if it's necessary, then cut them in half lengthwise. With a teaspoon scoop out the seeds.
2. Put the zucchini boats in a food steamer for 10 minutes, if you don’t have food steamer, put the courgettes in  boiling water for 6-7 minutes. Make sure the zucchini boats are not too softened.
3. Meanwhile the zucchinis are steaming, preheat the oven to 360°.
4. Heat one tablespoon oil in a pan and fry the frankfurters for 2-3 minutes, you can grill them as well.
5. When the zucchinis are ready, dry them and season with salt and pepper. Place 8 zucchini boats on a greased baking tray, brush them with mustard and ketchup, lay a cheese slice and a frankfurter in each boats, top them with a zucchini boat, sprinkle the top with grated cheese.
6. Put the zucchini hot dogs in the oven for 15 minutes, until the cheese is melted. Serve them immediately!

National V-J Day on August 14th commemorates the day in 1945 when news broke around the world the Imperial Government of Japan would surrender ending a long a grueling world war. In Europe, the date was August 15  (My Mom's birthday!!) due to the time zone, but regardless the celebrations that broke out were no less zealous.

Since 1939, the entire world had been enduring the strife of war. The first rumblings began in 1937 but by the end of 1941, the United States would join the war they had vowed remain out of. After the bombing of Pearl Harbor by Japan on December 7th, 1941, the United States declared war and fully supported all fronts.

Throughout the war effort, military personnel and civilians stood together to make the next 4 years a united front. Victory in Japan and the rest of the globe was a final goal.

 

NATIONAL VJ DAY HISTORY

In the United States, President Harry S. Truman announced it in a press conference at the White House later that day.  The peace treaty was officially signed on September 2, 1945 (my birthday!!).  A year later on August 2nd, Truman signed a proclamation declaring August 14, 1946, as Victory Day.
