Picture of the Day ~ John D Rockefeller ~ 5 Ingredient Beef Stroganoff ~ National Nurses Day

Good 42º clear sunny morning.
Warmed up yesterday in the high 80ºs again.

Picture of the Day....

Interesting about John D. Rockefeller.....

John D. Rockefeller, born in 1839 (d.1937) in Richford, New York, is a famous American businessman, philanthropist and one of the founders of the Standard Oil company. His company was first great American business trust. When kerosene and gasoline grew in importance, Rockefeller became the first American billionaire and the richest person in the world. At his peak, he controlled 90% of all oil of the country!
Rockefeller was born into a large family, 5 siblings, and was shaped by his con man father and religious mother. His family moved several times before eventually settling in Cleveland, Ohio. Rockefeller became an assistant bookkeeper at age 16 and went into several business partnerships beginning at age 20, concentrating his business on oil refining.
Rockefeller's wealth soared as kerosene and gasoline grew in importance, and he became the richest person in the country, controlling 90% of all oil in the United States at his peak. Oil was used throughout the country as a light source until the introduction of electricity, and as a fuel after the invention of the automobile. Furthermore, Rockefeller gained enormous influence over the railroad industry which transported his oil around the country. Standard Oil was the first great business trust in the United States. Rockefeller revolutionized the petroleum industry. His company and business practices came under criticism, particularly in the writings of author Ida Tarbell.

The Supreme Court ruled in 1911 that Standard Oil must be dismantled for violation of federal anti-trust laws. It was broken up into 34 separate entities which included companies that became ExxonMobilChevron Corporation, and others—some of which still have the highest level of revenue in the world. Individual pieces of the company were worth more than the whole, as shares of these doubled and tripled in value in their early years.
This can be interesting: Rockefeller celebrated the anniversary of landing his first job every year and considered this date to be more significant than his birthday.

5 Ingredient Beef Stroganoff

  • 1 pound of stew meat
  • 1 (10.75 ounce) can of cream of onion soup (if you can't find cream of onion soup, then use 1 packet of Lipton dry onion soup mix and an extra can of cream of mushroom soup)
  • 1 (10.75 ounce) can of cream of mushroom soup (if you don't like cream of mushroom, cream of chicken works great too!)
  • 8 ounces of egg noodles
  • 1/2 cup of sour cream
In a crock pot toss in stew meat, cream of onion soup and can of mushroom soup.
Place lid on crock pot and cook on low for 3- 4 hours, depending on your crock pot. Or on high for 2-3 hours.
After 3 - 4 hours, when meat is cooked through, stir well and turn off crock pot.
Prepare egg noodles according to package directions.
Add sour cream to meat mixture just before serving.
Serve immediately.

All I know. Nuff said. Happy Monday. Ciao.
xo Sue Mom Bobo

On this day, we raise awareness of all nurse contributions and commitments and acknowledge the vital role nurses play in society.  This day is also the first day of National Nurses Week and is sometimes known as National RN Recognition Day.
National Nurses Week begins May 6 and ends on May 12, which is the birthday of Florence Nightingale (May 12, 1820 – August 13, 1910).  Florence Nightingale was a celebrated English, social reformer, statistician and the founder of modern nursing. She became well-known while taking care of the wounded soldiers during the Crimean War.  Nightingale was dubbed The Lady with the Lamp because of her habit of making rounds at night.
HOW TO OBSERVE
Each year the American Nurses Association (ANA) chooses a theme to acknowledge the many services provided by nurses everywhere. The year has been designated the “Year of the Healthy Nurse and as such, the National Nurses Week 2017 theme  is”Nursing: the Balance of Mind, Body, and Spirit.” Focusing on those set the example and creating a culture of a healthy balance, the ANA’s 2017 theme provides significant resources to guide nurses to achieving these goals.
HISTORY
It was in 1953 when an employee at the United States Department of Health, Dorothy Sutherland, sent a letter to President Eisenhower proposing a National Nurses Day.  The official proclamation was not made.  The following year people began celebrating National Nurses Week on their own.
In 1974, President Nixon proclaimed a “National Nurse Week.”  In 1981, a resolution was initiated by nurses in New Mexico to have May 6th declared “National Recognition Day for Nurses.”  This proposal was promoted by the ANA Board of Directors.  In 1982, the United States Congress designated May 6th to be “National Recognition Day for Nurses.”  The proposal was signed by President Reagan.  It was later expanded by the ANA Board of Directors in 1990 to a week-long celebration (May 6-12) known as “National Nurses Week.”

HAPPY Monday back to you.

That sign is FUNNY. Nice to see humor which isn't cruel.

The insert on John D. Rockefeller was truly interesting. Especially the part where he celebrated his first day at work. What a telling detail.

Thank you to all who choose to be nurses. God bless you, your families and your patients.

That sign is a HOOT! :) Funny!

I have copied and saved your Stroganoff recipe. It's John's favorite but the last one I made, he didn't like. This one looks wonderful!
