Rain ~ Computer Keypad ~ Shingles ~ Picture of the Day ~ Lt. Jimmy Duran ~ Ground Beef Vegetable Pasta Soup ~  National Peanut Butter and Jelly Day

Good 50º dark cloudy morning.

Yesterday rain started in the morning and was on and off all day..... rain predicted for the whole week through the weekend.

My big cordless computer key pad died. I had a 'stand by' one that I have been using. This one is a little one you plug into the computer and it's LOUSY!  That's why no moon photo, so I ordered a new up to date keypad and it will be here today. Those moon photos on that site cannot be "copied and pasted" in the "normal way". they have to be done by holding down the control button and then pushing the 'print screen' button. Then you need to go to a page where you can "paste" it and then crop it. Anyway, hopefully I will get back to "normal" by tomorrow.

Yesterday was errand day.... and shingles shot day. I had the first shingles shot a few years ago, but now the newest one is recommended..... there are two of them. Today was my second.

Shingles is a viral infection that causes a painful rash. Although shingles can occur anywhere on your body, it most often appears as a single stripe of blisters that wraps around either the left or the right side of your torso.
Shingles is caused by the varicella-zoster virus — the same virus that causes chickenpox. After you've had chickenpox, the virus lies inactive in nerve tissue near your spinal cord and brain. Years later, the virus may reactivate as shingles.
While it isn't a life-threatening condition, shingles can be very painful. Vaccines can help reduce the risk of shingles, while early treatment can help shorten a shingles infection and lessen the chance of complications.
A dear friend got the shingles this past year and suffered a lot! Get your shot if you had chickenpox! At least talk to your doctor about it!!

I had a nice chat with a former Californian while waiting for the shot. He lived in the Montebello area growing up. Then the pharmacist, Frank, also from California, and lived in the Covina and Whittier areas.

Picture of the Day....

Towering ponderosa pines are seen in Bryce Canyon National Park in Utah. Chasms in the rock are formed when water freezes and expands, gradually pushing the rocks apart and creating alleys up to 200 feet deep.

A dear friend, Jimmy Duran, just retired the end of March from the LA Sheriff's Department. His son James grew up and became a Deputy too. CONGRATULATIONS Jimmy!!! 😍Enjoy your retirement!!!

Ground Beef Vegetable Pasta Soup......

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 2 cups frozen mixed vegetables
  • 1 can (14-1/2 ounces) diced tomatoes, undrained
  • 1 can (14-1/2 ounces) beef broth
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 1/2 cup uncooked elbow macaroni

In a large saucepan, cook beef over medium heat until no longer pink; drain. Stir in the mixed vegetables, tomatoes, broth and pepper. Bring to a boil; add macaroni. Reduce heat; cover and simmer for 8-10 minutes or until macaroni and vegetables are tender.

Test Kitchen Tips
  • This versatile recipe is great for picky eaters (especially those who don't like garlic and onions), but also easy to spice up. Chili powder, paprika, onion powder and garlic powder are tasty additions. Start with 1/4 teaspoon of any or all, and increase to taste.
  • Substitute any short pasta for the elbow macaroni. Shells and wagon wheels are fun shapes for this kid-friendly soup.

All I know. Nuff said. Happy Tuesday. Ciao.

National Peanut Butter and Jelly Day is celebrated annually on April 2nd.  This food holiday is a classic favorite of many.  The average American will have eaten over 2000 peanut butter and jelly sandwiches by the time they graduate from high school.
Peanut butter was considered a delicacy in the early 1900s and was only served in New York City’s finest tea rooms.  In a May 1896 article published in the Good Housekeeping magazine, a recipe “urged homemakers to use a meat grinder to make peanut butter and spread the result on bread.”  That same year, in June, the culinary magazine Table Talk, published a “peanut butter sandwich recipe.”
It is thought to be that the first reference of peanut butter paired with jelly on bread, to be issued in the United States, was by Julia Davis Chandler in 1901.  In the late 1920s, the price of peanut butter declined, and the sandwich became very popular with children.
According to the Peanut Board, during World War II, both peanut butter and jelly were part of the United States soldiers military ration list.
In 1968, The J.M. Smucker Co. introduced Goober, a jarred product which combined alternating vertical stripes of peanut butter and jelly.

It's peanut butter and jelly every day that Isabella and Ian are here. I buy Uncrustables for their lunch. They love them with chips and a fruit. They come in grape and strawberry.

That reminds me I had better get some out of the freezer right now. :)
