Gloom/Sun ~ Dude ~ 417 ~ Picture of the Day ~ Companies With Most Employees ~ Crispy Greek Lemon Smashed Potatoes ~ National Cheeseball Day

Good 43º somewhat cloudy morning.

Yesterday the gloom and fog hung out.........
Then after 1pm we finally got some blue sky and sun!

Happy Dude....

417 - California Penal Code for brandishing a weapon in a rude of threatening manner... or one of our radio codes for "person with a gun"

The rest of the 417 codes:
417A - person with a knife
417B - barricaded suspect
417BH - barricaded suspect + hostage situation
417S - shots fired

I have 417 on my license plate. It was originally Jerry's. I was in town one day when an older gentleman came up to me and asked with my license plate meant. I explained the penal code and radio code. He then put his arm around my shoulder and said, "Is that what they got you for?" LOL!!!!!

Crispy Greek Lemon Smashed Potatoes

from the Closet Cook... a really yummy sounding way to fix potatoes!

Tender potatoes that are smashed and roasted until golden brown and crispy on top and bottom seasoned with olive oil, butter, oregano salt and pepper in addition to a hit of lemon juice!

  • 1 pound new potatoes (about 1-1 1/2 inches across), washed
  • 1 tablespoon oil
  • 1 teaspoon oregano
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon parsley, chopped

  1. Bring the potatoes and enough water to cover them by an inch to a boil, reduce the heat and simmer until a fork can easily be pushed into them, about 15-30 minutes depending on the size of the potatoes, before draining them.
  2. Place the potatoes on a greased baking sheet and ‘smash’ them by pressing down on them with something like a potato masher, the bottom of a glass or bowl, etc.
  3. Brush the potatoes with the of the oil and butter, sprinkle on the oregano, salt, and pepper and bake them on the top shelf of a preheated 450º oven until golden brown and crispy on top, about 20 minutes.
  4. Drizzle on the melted butter and lemon juice before sprinkling on the parsley!

April 17 recognizes the food holiday National Cheeseball Day.  There are two ways a cheeseball can be served:
  • A cheese spread in the shape of a ball served with crackers, most often around Christmas in the U.S.  This cheeseball is commonly made with softened cream cheese and other ingredients.
  • Cheese puffs, which is a puffed corn snack, coated with a mixture of cheese or cheese flavored powders.  Cheese puffs are manufactured by extruding heated corn dough through a die that forms the particular shape, most likely a ball shape.

GOOD morning. Cheese balls are a favorite here. Partly for how they taste, partly for they are surrounded by happy memories in times of great happiness.

Today is the apple-in-grilled-cheese experiment- these potatoes sound like they would to well, but having overindulged yesterday, it might be best to save for another day or I might be mistaken for a giant cheeseball.
