Interesting about pest infestation........
It's perhaps one of the most upsetting sights a homeowner can see: a mouse, rat or cockroach darting from under a piece of furniture or kitchen cabinet, scurrying across the room and disappearing.
But where are they most often reported in the US? In California, three cities make the top 20 list, with cockroaches being the biggest problem. Los Angeles-Long Beach comes in at No. 7 on the national list, followed by Riverside-San Bernardino at No. 11 and San Francisco down at No. 17.
On the list for rats, the three metro areas are bunched down lower. San Francisco again comes in at No. 17, followed by Riverside-San Bernardino at No. 19 and Los Angeles-Long Beach at No. 20.
Here's a good cheesecake to make for St. Paddy's Day....
Guinness Chocolate Cheesecake...

- 2 tablespoons cocoa powder
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 2 tablespoons butter, melted
- 12 ounces dark chocolate, chopped
- 2 tablespoons heavy cream
- 3 (8 ounce) packages cream cheese
- 1 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup sour cream
- 3 eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 3/4 cup Guinness (beer)
- Mix the graham cracker crumbs, cocoa powder, sugar, and butter and press into the bottom of a 9 inch spring form pan.
- Melt the chocolate in the cream in a double boiler.
- Cream the cream cheese.
- Mix in the sugar, chocolate, sour cream, eggs, vanilla, and Guinness.
- Pour the mixture into the spring form pan.
- Bake in a preheated 350º oven for 60 minutes.
- Turn off heat and leave cheesecake in the oven with the door slightly ajar for 60 minutes.
- Let it cool completely.
- Chill the cheesecake in the fridge overnight.

March 16th is National Artichoke Hearts Day. According to the California Artichoke Advisory Board, artichokes are a good source of antioxidants, vitamin C, folate and magnesium. The antioxidants in artichokes are very good for your liver and help promote healthy skin. Artichokes are also high in fiber, calcium and protein while low in calories. For all of these reasons, along with being fat-free and cholesterol free, artichokes are truly a healthy and delicious food to celebrate!
- The total antioxidant capacity of an artichoke flower head is one of the highest reported for vegetables.
- The fleshy base of the artichoke is perhaps the most enjoyably edible part of this oddly-shaped vegetable.
- You can find artichoke hearts that are packed in vinegar, oil or marinade and canned.
- They make for a great low sodium snack and lend themselves well to other snacks like artichoke dip, as well as a pizza topping.
- Toss them in the skillet for a savory sauté.
- They might just turn into a healthy addiction!
- California is known as the artichoke capital of the world. They supply nearly 100% of North American fresh artichokes.

A top of the morning to you. I just could NOT start my day without checking out the pictures and reading your blog. LOVE artichoke hearts. Such divinity within the thorny enclosure. Imagine the bravery of whomever first discovered the deliciousness.
There used to be a restaurant in Orange which Trisha took me for my birthday to enjoy their cheese stuffed and breaded artichoke hearts. Great food is inspirational. Sublime tastes linger in our hearts long after the food departs our lips.
Thank you for the memory.

Thanks L, appreciate it. Yes, artichokes a real favorite of mine!! xo
Lydia, for the life of me I don't remember that. I do remember Marilyn and I treated you to dinner for your birthday at that Mexican restaurant in DC while we were there for Gary's swearing in.
Speaking of infestations. Yesterday when I opened the door for the housekeepers I was shocked! All over the porch and up the door frame where winged termites! Swarming! I quickly closed the door. When the ladies went to leave I looked and not one in sight! Hope they flew away to visit someone else. :(
XO Trisha
Yikes, flying termites!! xo
