Frozen ~ Geese ~ Sunshine! ~ 1 Year Ago ~ Picture of the Day ~ More Ponderisms ~ Broccoli Cheese Casserole ~ Weather in California and Arizona ~ National Margarita Day

Good 27º frozen morning.

Yesterday, YEAH, we got blue sky and SUNSHINE!!!!

Boy oh boy, was Dude and Bruiser happy!

One year ago today we had 10" of snow!

Picture of the Day.....

More "ponderisms" shared by high school friend, Carol Nasca. Thanks Carol, funny stuff!

Do Lipton Tea employees take coffee breaks?

What hair color do they put on the driver's licenses of bald men?

I was thinking about how people seem to read the Bible a whole lot more as they get older; then it dawned on me ...
they're cramming for their final exam.

I thought about how mothers feed their babies with tiny little spoons and forks,
so I wondered what do Chinese mothers use?  Toothpicks?

Why do they put pictures of criminals up in the Post Office? What are we supposed to do, write to them?
Why don't they just put their pictures on the postage stamps so the mailmen can look for them while they deliver the mail?

If it's true that we are here to help others, then what exactly are the others here for?

You never really learn to swear until you learn to drive.

Ever wonder what the speed of lightning would be if it didn't zigzag?

If a cow laughed, would she spew milk out of her nose?

Whatever happened to Preparations A through G?

At income tax time, did you ever notice: When you put the two words 'The' and 'IRS' together it spells   ... 'THEIRS'?

CROCK POT BROCCOLI CHEESE CASSEROLE
from Chris the Crock Pot queen....

This casserole is a delicious side dish slow cooker recipe perfect for holidays, potlucks or a special weeknight treat for family
  • 6 oz box cornbread stuffing
  • 1.5 cup of water or chicken broth
  • 12 oz bag broccoli florets - thawed
  • 10.5 oz can cream of mushroom soup
  • 8 oz to 16 oz Velveeta cheese- cubed
  1. Mix together stuffing with water or broth and microwave for 3 minutes.
  2. Pour into slow cooker and add remaining ingredients and stir well.
  3. Cover and cook on low for 2-3 hours until cheese melts and broccoli is tender.
***Non-Velveeta fans always ask me about switching out cheddar for Velveeta. I have not tried it with this recipe but my guess is that it would work, the final dish will just have a different consistency.

I put my friend, Joan Driscoll Lopes, birthday on the first of the month, but it's actually today. HAPPY BIRTHDAY JOAN!! xo

And HAPPY BIRTHDAY to your twin sister, Teresa!!

My former neighbors and pals, PJ and Dave, moved to Oregon from Washington to escape the weather up there. Then a couple years ago they moved to Arizona, just north of Phoenix to escape our weather and live where it was a lot warmer. Well, PJ posted this picture yesterday of their yard...........

Also my high school pal (and locker partner!) Nancy (Kujala) lives in Yucca Valley, CA (just north of Palm Springs!) and they have snow too!

And yesterday the Grapevine in California was closed due to snow!

All I know. Nuff said. Happy TGIF. Ciao.

Known to be the most common tequila-based cocktail served in the United States, the margarita is a cocktail that consists of tequila, triple sec and lime or lemon juice. A key ingredient is the freshly squeezed lime juice.  In the United States, the most common lime is the thick-skinned Persian lime.  When margaritas are made with lemons, they have a much softer taste.
When it comes to sorting out the legends associated with the origin of the margarita, there are many. Two things are certain; the cocktail included tequila, and the bartender edged the rim of the glass with salt. In Mexico, when drinking straight tequila (especially if the quality was bad), the best course of action was to down it in one swallow, suck on a wedge of lime and lick a dash of salt off the back of your hand.
It makes sense that the salt followed the lime and the tequila to the margarita glass. Today, lime is not the only flavor of margarita, and the specialists behind the bar have gotten creative mixing dried herbs, infused sugars and exotic salts to enhance both the presentation of the glass and the flavor of the cocktail.
Margaritas can be served on the rocks (shaken with ice), frozen (blended with ice), or straight up (without ice).
There are many different stories and myths, beginning as early as 1938, as to how and when the margarita was created.
In the December 1953 issue of Esquire magazine, the margarita cocktail was the “Drink of the Month”.  The recipe as printed was:
  • 1 ounce tequila
  • Dash of Triple Sec
  • Juice of 1/2 lime or lemon
Pour over crushed ice, stir.  Rub the rim of a stem glass with rind of lemon or lime, spin in salt—pour, and sip.  (Wikipedia)
The margarita was further popularized with the 1977 release of Jimmy Buffett’s song “Margaritaville”.

HISTORY
National Margarita Day is claimed to have been founded by a few dozen bartenders, so it’s hard to trace its exact origin.

This morning I saw photos of snow in Los Angeles! WOW! This morning here in Diamond Bar everything was frozen. Ice on the roof tops. I used to see that every winter here but now, not so much.

The recipe looks good but I would add chicken for a main course.

mmmmm Margarita Day! My favorite drink other than Chardonnay! :)

XO Trisha

I am a day late in reading, but as they say in writing, your topics are "evergreen" - of lasting value.

If a non-Velveeta fan would like to create a similar texture in a recipe- blend together shredded cheese of their choice into cream cheese, then use as directed.
